Description: Little Mango is a small but cosy restaurant with western and thai food. The prices are very resonable. Ken, owner, is a very kind host for his mostly western crowd.

“Hardly excellent”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

Firstly, yes I understand this restaurant is not trying to compete up there with Casa Pascal or Matahari on the fine dining stakes, but really there is definitely room for improvement here without affecting their bottom line.

To the reviewer who commented that 'when does a restaurant give anything away for free' or similar comments (referring to the free soup offered here), perhaps he is not aware of the concept of Amuse Bouche and free breads and dips offered by many better restaurants.

In any case, whenever something is given away for free in a restaurant setting, it is my absolute believe that despite it being 'free' it must be of the same standard as other dishes. Sadly, the potato soup that I had one mouthful of last night was probably the worst soup I have tried for some time. It was exactly what you'd expect a bad 'free' soup to be, luke warm, watery and with an after taste of flour.

The waiter could not tell me what the white wine was (ie. was it a Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc). He was reasonably friendly and helpful and recommended the Chicken Cordon Bleu.

The chicken was quite nicely cooked, not overcooked and and cheese sauce okay. The accompanying mashed potato was well seasoned and reasonably flavorsome, but common Thai varietal potatoes are just not good enough in my opinion for mashed potato due to their brownish/dirty color. The mashed potato could have used more butter and or/cream but this is Thailand, where those ingredients are expensive.

The house wine was not expensive at 120 baht and was quite adequate for the price although very small in volume.

I observed the owner/chef an older Thai woman come out and ask is the patrons enjoyed their food which I thought was a nice gesture.

I suspect that the popularity of this place is based on their very good value set menus which offer quite a wide range of dishes.

For the reasons I have given above, I cannot understand how anyone can describe the restaurant as 'excellent', unless of course their only basis for this is frugality.

“All you need...”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

I have been to Little Mango Restaurant several times during the last few years. It has always been a good experience. Ken and his staff make sure you get a warm welcome. The menu has been updated: there's a good choice of Thai and Western dishes at interesting prices. It isn't the goal of the restaurant to get some Michelin stars, so if that's what you're looking for you will be disappointed. But if you want some good food and honest prices, this is the place to be. The atmosphere is very relaxed: the Thai way.

“Good food, great value!”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

I've dined at Little Mango a couple of times over the years, the last time as recently as earlier this evening. It's unpretentious dining at it's best. Unpretentious? Downmarket even! However the service is friendly and efficient and the food is excellent. If you want excellent value, friendly wait staff and really good food, check out Little Mango. Ken may even give you a free after dinner liqueur to top off the meal!

“Roadside cafe - marginal food - no atmosphere”
Reviewed December 25, 2012

Why this decidedly average roadside cafe gets any review better than poor baffles me. It is just a few tables set up in front of a shophouse located on a busy soi with constant traffic and regular exhaust fumes serving average food. That's it; the whole deal in a nutshell. There is nothing to amaze you there and little to amuse you.

If this is what you're after, then fine but certainly there are more interesting dining spots at the same price-point that serve better food.

“Little Mango, small but great”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

Little Mango really is little, only a few tables and is an open air place with no AIr-co so can get hot. On my recent visit it was raining very heavy so i stayed quite a while until the rain stopped.

I really enjoyed the place, food and drink was excellent and the juices and coffee were also excellent, I had a few waiting for the rain to stop.

The service was great from the nice looking and quite sexy Thai boy and the owner Ken gave me a lovely welcome and offered me a free drink after my meal.

I'll be back for more for sure.

10/10

P.S , forgot to mention, the soup is free. Yes free soup, when have you ever heard of a place giving away something for free. Nice soup too. Enjoy.
