“Buyer Beware--Major Renovations Underway”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2011

This was my second time staying at Woodlands Resort. The resort is undergoing a MAJOR RENOVATION and much of the grounds (including the second pool and most of the rooms) are closed. Renovation work starts early in the AM and runs well past sunset with workers using high power lights to work at night. This can be noisy and destroys the feeling of being at a Thai resort. What upset me was that none of this is mentioned in their website or when making reservations. We booked a room in the Woodlands Resort but ended up staying at the adjoining Woodlands Suites due to the noise concerns in the very few rooms still open on the resort side. The suite was small but quiet and super clean with a fridge, stovetop and microwave. However it felt more like a Condotel than a resort with decor no different than the Hyatt in downtown Omaha so we really didn't feel like we were staying in a Thai resort. A large kitchen, walk-in closet, free internet, beautiful bathroom and a nice breakfast were positives but could not overcome the fact we felt deceived by the lack of disclosure. Would we stay here again? Yes (based on a previous stay in 07)-but not until AFTER all renovations are complete.

Room Tip: Bring a copy of your reservation email. They tried to overcharge us until I produced the email with...

We thank you very much for your review and Woodlands is currently under renovation to better serve its customers in the future. Renovation is due for completion on November 12th, 2011. Woodlands Pattaya a well known property among travelers has been in operation for the past 24 years and the latest renovations have seen an upgrade of all Superior rooms with a brighter ambiance, modern furniture, HD TV as well as integrated media hub to meet today’s demand for technology. In addition the Resort’s Lobby as well as Lobby Bar has been totally revamped offering a stunning modern and welcoming mood reflecting Woodlands unique atmosphere. Woodlands started back in 1988 with 80 rooms and has grown to 2 properties offering a total of 208 rooms catering to diverse market needs from leisure, corporate and long stay residents. We hope our guests will be pleased with all the improvements made. And we thank you all travelers for their reviews, which are essential to our growth.

Woodland is located in northern Pattaya. The location is okay because I was able to travel everywhere by Taxi or Sseongtteu(don't know how to spell this ride) or you can rent a motorbike at 200bt for one day.
Some part of this resort was under construction when I visited but it was not noisy from my room. Staff members were okay but the front desk is need to be improved.
This hotel provides free internet/wi-fi and pool. The pool was okay. If you get a 1st floor room, you can go to the pool from your balcony. Breakfast was just average. Not many choices of foods. They give 10% discount for hotel spa but there are many great spa&massage shops around and they are even cheaper.

Room Tip: 1st floor is good, rest is okay.

We've just got back from two weeks here staying in the hotel part of the Woodlands resort.

We had a Deluxe Terrace room which meant our terrace had a gate opening straight out so we could walk to the Tropical pool. The room was nice and spacious with a firm bed (which we both like). The bathroom was good with a window looking out into the room. We had clean towels and sheets daily. The only problem was the shower, which in our last few days kept going hot and cold. The housekeeping staff are brilliant, checking up each evening that all is OK with the room.

The Tropical Pool is lovely, a nice depth and about 30m long, so in the quieter times it's possible to have a really nice swim. There's also a Pool Bar with a happy hour in the afternoons.

Breakfast was good, with egg options always freshly cooked. We also used Room Service which was very good. Pizzas from Grappa are excellent. La Baguette is very good (a sort of French Brasserie at the front of the hotel). We tried the friday night buffet in Grappa, which was OK, but we were rushed a bit at the end because they wanted to close up.

Access to the city is very easy, it's a quick walk to the beach and if you use the baht bus, just say Dolphin Roundabout, it's so much easier. We only paid 20 baht from Walking Street to the roundabout at 1am - bargain! There are also plenty of seven-11 and Family Mart and a supermarket nearby.

I had a massage in the Spa which was brilliant, although I'd have loved to have stayed there to relax after instead of getting up straight away.

A few gripes... The hotel was very quiet (we like that), but only one block was being used as the rest of the hotel sight was being refurbished, so there was the constant sound of drills during the day (there was nothing about this on the website). The Garden Pool was closed too. I dread to think what the hotel would be like in high season with all rooms booked, most likely not as good.

About halfway through the hotel reception was closed due to refurbishment. This moved over to the reception area for the Woodlands Suites which felt quite clinical and unfriendly. The Tropical Bar at the front of the hotel was closed the whole time were were there which meant there was no hotel bar to sit and have a drink in after 7pm in the evenings.

Our other gripe was a charge for a broken glass! We accidently broke a glass from the hotel room and this was charged for on the final bill. It seemed a bit over the top. Many hotels suffer breakages and don't charge the customers. What happens if a member of staff breaks a glass. I'm sorry, but that suddenly added to our bill when we're checking out at 4am is a bit unpalatable.

Yes it's a nice hotel. We made friends with a few members of staff who are very helpful and friendly asking what we've been doing, etc. The rooms are nice and comfortable and the location is really good. Just not convinced by the value for money. Plus it would have been nice to know building works were happening. I really don't think it would be a nice place in high season, I don't think there's the space for everyone.

Room Tip: Deluxe terrace or pool rooms are possibly the nicest - they have direct access the the pool

although i would not recommend anyone to go to pattaya i can warmly recomend this hotel. best breakfast ever with huge variety of foods such as pastries, omelet, stir fries etc. rooms are quiet and clean. room service twice a day impressed me. free internet in the entrance hall with own laptop. very friendly staff. location is convinient although not central. its quiet and close to shopping and theatre. tutuk to center is very cheap and always available. many restaurants and laundry places nearby.

Stayed here and was surprised by the excellent pool (very quiet), good rooms and very friendly service, note that the hotel is only 100 meters from the Dolphin roundabout. We asked to move rooms on day 2 due to a noisy girl bar opposite on the street which kept us awake till 3am - this is pattaya!! so expect it. We were moved to a quieter room and had an excellent stay. Good breakfast and offered a free spa treatment in the hotel.
Not a family hotel though, saw old white males with young thai boys as well as with young thai girls so not great for kids to see. Although we saw nothing inappropriate in the hotel. Use the baht buses to get around and ONLY pay 10 baht, just hand it in the window and walk off after your journey, its the locals rate!

Room Tip: Use the bug bands at night when going out.

I enjoyed the Woodlands with a nice garden type atmosphere. My room was clean and reasonably furnished and spacious enough. The restaurants were adequate as well and the service was very good with the staff very polite and attentive. The hotel itself was in a good location, close enough to walk to beach but not TOO close to crazy part of town. I liked the individual buildings of 2 or three stories so you could walk up directly to room unlike highrise hotel. Played a couple of different different golf courses. Barupha Country Club. which was very interesting layout with 2 par sixes. Roomy enough fairways and light rough before getting to jungle for challenge to good players and playable for recreational player of any level. Upon arriving at course everything went like clockwork. You were directed to very nice locker room and given locker and key to store your change of clothes. After round a nice shower and change into fresh clothes and then to very nice clubhouse for drinks with playing partners and relive shots of the day and talk story and pay or collect on bets for the days game. Greens were decent considering tropical climate. Also played another very nice layout St Andrews 2000 Golf Club which was designed by Australian Golf Great David Graham. The course layout offerrs a terrific test for competition pros without being unplayable for less skilled recreational players. In other words you have to hit quality shots to get par or chance at birdie but bogey is within reach for any player as ample room to miss it and still recover. Clubhouse and locker room experience was same as above i.e. most enjoyable. Caddies at all courses were charming with smart matching caddie uniforms of long pants and long sleeved shirts and large brimed hats that they all wear with a towel underneath along the lines of French foreign legion head gear. Caddies knew yardages within plus or minus 5 yards for aproach shots and were generally extremely good at reading putts. All caddies in Thailand are local women that are well trained to perform all duties of caddy and make the Thailand golf experience both enjoyable and memorable.

Room Tip: Ask for 1st or second floor

My sister and I stayed in this hotel and choose it because of the style, and location away from the mail drag of Pattaya.
We had a comfortable stay and the staff were very polite and helpful especiallywhen we asked to change rooms, our first room was very dark. Breakfast was very good and freshly cooked.
The pool area was lovely not too busy and plenty of sunbeds. The hotel coffee shop is a delight.
Downside the hotel bar was closed for our entire stay so no nightcaps and the poolside service was non exsistant, a bar was available but not very inviting not really what we expected for a four star hotel as advertised.. The rooms were clean and room service was good but the music from outside bars was very loud, I would use the Hotel again but only if it could it could be moved to anywhere but Pattaya, which must be the worse place in Thailand I have ever been too in the 10years I have been going..
