“A nice place to rest”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 22, 2013

Arrival:
My friend and I had arrived at this place and got a friendly and service minded Welcome at the Check-in. I got the key for my room and went to see the room on 2 floor. When entering the room i got a pleasant surprise by the CLEAN and NEAT big seized room and bathroom. The condition of the room, furniture, bed, was a lot better than expected in this price range and past experience.
My Travel companion and I both agreed that this was a very good decision, EVEN though it was a bit outside from the main area of Pattaya.

The Resort Restaurant:
There is a restaurant/cafe/bar in the resort by the pool that offers room service which is very convenient, quick and absolutely fair priced and not least pretty good food (only had the pizzas)
The restaurant staff was also very nice and witty. The Breakfast is above standard and hearty, coffee well made and overall a pleasant atmosphere to sit and relax

DOWNSIDE
The only thing my buddy and I had some negative remarks about was the other guest, that was either drunk, hungover and overall bad mannered. The conversations in the Cafe was mostly loud bragging about Nightly adventures from walking street, money spent on hookers the night before and so on...This was around midday at 12 am having breakfast trying to have a nice and sober start on a new day, not something that impressed us - oh yea, and the 2 of the loudest guys where both staying and dating the staff - VERY SLEAZY an inconsiderate of the guest who was relaxing at the pool or like we, trying to get our breakfast without morning drunk and loud hooligans bragging of how much money they have to spend on girls.

A very sad thing we noticed was the kind female receptionist seemed sad about her farang man was out of order and promiscuous - flirting with the young girl working at the restaurant.

If i go to pattaya again, i will probably come back to this resort, and check out the guest situation before deciding to stay for a longer period.

Thanks to the kind and very service minded woman at the check-in

Room Tip: Ask for a room on floor 2 or 3 to avoid having your room right at the restaurant and pool.

I just came back form this amazing resort. But you've got to be clear of what you want! If its the nightlife and walking street appeals you so much that you want to go there every night, then this might be a little bit far for you. But if you want a relaxed atmosphere, a true wanderer feel, then Bonkai is the place for you. Anyhow Walking street is approx. 1.2 kms from the resort. When you go out of the resort, turn left and walk towards the market. You'll find many scooty taxis standing there. They charge you about 50baht each( depends on ur haggling skills, i paid 30 too at times).
They take you from a shortcut, so memorize it and wallah! Walking street is just a 15mins walk.
There is a 7/11 store and a Family mart store in the vicinity and if you are really low on budget, get frozen food from 7/11 and use the microwave in the hotel to heat it and enjoy. There are some shops near the resort and you can find everything there, from cigarettes to beer, thai food, massage.
The restaurant in the resort is owned by an American. The food is amazing. Morning American breakfast is very filling at 140baht. I had Fish Fillet, fish and chips, Cheese Pizza, Ham Pizza, Chicken Burger and was very pleased.
The swimming pool is clean and well maintained.
They have an in-house massage parlour which is run by a lady named J.J, and a foot massage is a must from her. She is very polite and humble unlike other Thai people ive met. The woman at the reception, Mickey is quite friendly too, but the owner Ms. S, can get to your nerves sometimes. So be patient and calm when you talk to her.
Anyone visiting Bonkai Resort please do give my regards to J.J. I am Vicky from the Ship( pronounced Chip in thai!!).
To summerize, i would say that you get what you want. If you want the hustle bustle of the main bazaar its beter you get a room near walking street or in central pattaya. But it comes with free music from the bars as well. But if you want to relax and unwind and enjoy walking then Bonkai should fit your frame.
Chiyo!!

Room Tip: 2nd Floor rooms are better as you get a lot of air their. I didn't want to stay much in the A/C...

This is my review and I hope its helpful to other travelers.

Booking.
I had booked the hotel via booking.com. Gave Credit Card guarantee Baht 699 for Standard Double Room with Balcony. Without Breakfast. Good value for money.

Check-In.
We reached at 9 am, no room for early check in. Gave photocopy of PPs, finished all formalities of check in. It was fast as the owner herself does the process.

We hired a bike (they kept one PP) and headed to Bali Hai Pier for Koh Larn Island. Came back at 1.30 PM. Room is ready. We need to carry our luggage to the first floor, a bit of a hard work because of no elevator.

Room:
About 32 SqM, Pool View, Flat-screen TV, DVD Player, CD Player, Safe Deposit Box, Toiletries, Tea/Coffee Maker, Minibar, Refrigerator.

The room is inviting and has wooden floor and very nice ambiance. Room is very nice, nice bed and we had a very nice sleep.

Location:
This is where the resort loses out. Its a bit far from the main Beach road or the second road. The Baht buses leave us on the main raod and its about further 600 meters inside to reach the resorts. Its a pain and more so with an heavy luggage.

We had to change 2 Songthaews (Baht Bus) from Pattaya Bus stop to Bonkai and 3 changes to go to Bus stop.

Suggestion:
The resort should give a free shuttle ride from / to the main road, from where the guests can get Baht Buses or Cabs. If no shuttle at check in, at least they should provide on check out.

Verdict:
If your budget is less, you are staying for 3 or more nights and if you like to be in a peaceful / secluded place, then this hotel is for you. Also you must be ready to hire a bike here (Baht 200), else you will end up paying a lot of money to cabs or wasting your time waiting for Baht bus.

If you are staying for just one night (like we did) then this is resort is a big NO.

Room Tip: The first floor rooms should be nice. If you want to use the pools then ground floor rooms should al...

This is a great resort, just far enough away from the noise of Beach Rd/Walking St, (15 min walk, 5 min motorbike ride)but close enough to enjoy the craziness of Pattaya when you want. Staff are very friendly and attentive, rooms are spacious and rustic, restaurant has delicious food. All in all, great hotel especially for the price. Highly recommend this spot.

Bonkai Resort was the cheapest of 4 hotels we lodged at in Thailand. It was beautiful, slightly rustic (expect to carry your own luggage to your room, no elevator), with a nice pool and really wonderful restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful, arranging transport as we required it (including arranging a driver to take us 40km to Khao Kheow Open Zoo, and wait 3 hours for us before taking us back).

The room was not thoroughly cleaned (though it was nice and spacious), and the bathroom smelled a bit musty. A chart in the room has a scary list of extra expenses incurred for housekeeping services, though we didn't have to pay anything extra when we checked out. The wi-fi was mostly fine.

Talking to other travelers in the restaurant was highly entertaining, and the food there was absolutely brilliant.

We were only there for two days, but it seemed that the hotel wasn't really within walking distance of much. We had to hire lots of taxis, and they're more expensive in Pattaya than other parts of Thailand we went to.

Overall, I was more than satisfied with the hotel and would probably use it again.

Excellent and good budget resort in pattaya. Though little far from main area but I prefer walking and it took me 15 minutes to walk till walking street from resort. All rooms are well furnished, nice pool, cool bar and a great staff who understand english. Hotel manager is so polite and helpful. Overall I had great fun staying here.
