Starting in Central Pattaya, use your scooter and get over the Pratumnak Hill... you will see two buddhist temples, and a chinese sanctuary, but the most important one is The Big Buddha. Which is actually impressive. Try to do this early in the morning, after 11 am the climate is extremely hot and humid. And you can only get there by climbing an important number of stairs.

There is no entrance fee, the only things that you could pay here are : some beverage(you will surely be thristy) and a cage of sparrows, if you wish to release them on top of the hill for good fortune and accoomplishing what your heart desires.
The place is large and placed on the plateau of the Pratumnak Hill, full of representations of daily Buddhas and of course, the center piece : The Big Buddha. Behind it, there is a special stone, where you can place a coin and pray not to roll... they say the Gods will hear your wishes and grant them if the coin still stands when you leave. The view from this point is breath taking, you can see a part of Pattaya Bay , till far towards Nakhlua. As well, this is the place where you are advised to release your sparrows for all the goodness you want or need in your life.
If you're lucky , you might bump into a buddhist monk around, but be careful : only men can talk to them, wemen can only place offerings and their feet and cannot address to them or touch them. It's disrespectful.

I do hope you'll enjoy this place as much as I did.

Went up to the Big Buddha that lies on a hill nestled between Pattaya and Jomtien Beach. It was in the middle of the day in August, so very hot, but the place was not so crowded as it is supposed to be in the morning and the afternoon. The golden Buddha is on the top of the hill, and you have to climb some pretty dragon stairs to get to the top.

A little bit dirty with some various trash lying around, but beside that a nice place to visit.

If you find yourself in Pattaya and have nothing planned for the day then checking out the Buddha statue is not a bad idea.
The place gets a little cluttered in the morning and towards the afternoon.
It is a little dirty but the serenity of the surroundings is not completely spoiled.
It is still quiet and cars/bikes are not allowed inside. You will have to park outside and then walk the rest of the way. If you have the time, check it out.

As anything to do with Thais and Buddhas, you should know that they hold these places with the greates of respect, but when we got there and looked around, there seemed to be loads of rubbish everywhere and the standard of upkeep was not what i was expecting to see.
