My wife bought me a silver and ruby ring for our aniversary. Six months later, the stone came out of the setting. I took it back to the Gem Factory. "This isn't one of ours", we don't cut rubies like that", "you must have bought it at the other gem store down the road". I know Pattaya very well - there isn't another gem factory down the road. After some argument, they agreed to "reset the stone". Three months later, the stone again came out of the setting. I took it to a U.K. jeweller who told me that the stone had been GLUED in the setting. Moreover the ruby was not clear / poor quality and to repair it would cost more than the value of the ring.
