“Horrid - avoid”
Reviewed August 13, 2014 via mobile

Go if you want thumping dance music, teens getting tats on the beach, derelict beach front resorts and touts.

Otherwise avoid it and the whole of Chaweng. Koh Samui has loads of stunning towns and beautiful beaches, this place is like a train wreck in comparison.

“Beautiful beach - watch out for dangerous rip tides we nearly drowned”
Reviewed August 13, 2014

The beach is lovely. Golden sand stretches as far as the eye can see. There were sun beds outside our hotel and pretty much all the others but not overcrowded like Spanish and French beaches. There was plenty of space. I only saw two beach sellers in two weeks selling bananas and coconuts. Lots of amazing bars and restaurants along the beach. We walked for what seemed miles in the mornings and nobody else was there.
We had one problem and that was we both nearly drowned. I was talking to my husband - both waist deep when we were hit by a wave, dragged under and dragged out. It was terrifying. It happened in seconds and it dragged us right out into deep water - wave after wave hit us. I'm a strong swimmer and I couldn't move and panicked - my husband can hardly swim and it dragged him out further very quickly. I was screaming and thankfully they heard me on the beach and lots came running. They made a human chain to drag me out - my husband had floated on his back and a guy swam out and rescued him, we both thought we were going to die. We were then told there is a problem with rip tides there and lots of people have drowned. There were lots of people in the water about 50ft away and they were fine. We told our hotel what happened and why was there no Danger signs and they said the tourists wouldn't go there! So please be careful. It appears in narrow bands just below the surface - you just don't see it. I was told if you ever get caught in one again - never swim against it as you will get nowhere and exhaust yourself and drown. Don't panic - float on your back until you are free from it and swim around it if you can or raise the alarm. Rip tides are unpredictable so can appear anywhere so just exercise caution in the water there.,

“Beautiful beach but too crowded”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

Its the beach that probably every one heads towards. The area is quite hapenning and busteling with people, restaurants, shops but the beach is very crowded. I found the way to the public beach even dirty and full of filth. Not a beach that I would pick
