The beach various in width and when the tide is in parts disappear altogether. The sand has a great deal of small pebbles and coral in it and bare feet can be a bit painful. There are many hotels and boarding houses along the beach front and some are quite run down. The usual array of massage decks are dotted along the beach and a few fishing boats are here and there.
The sea was not that clean on the days we were there and although the water is shallow the many rocks around make it difficult to walk in the water.
Not my favourite but not the worst - seems safe.

Thank allancsn

This is a nice relaxing beach which is not completely remote but still reasonably peaceful, not overrun with tourists or touts.

we stayed here for 8 days, the sea was quite rough and we were prevented from swimming for 5 of the days. the sand is quite course. we hired a car and visited several beaches in the north where the sand was fine and the water a lot flatter and calm. this was said to be a bit unusual for march but i would rather stay in the north. the beach has several places to each along it. the beach has a steep slope once you enter the water and proved problematic to some elderly people when trying to exit the water.

Unfortunatly not the best time to visit this beach. Sand was very rough and corally ( hard to walk on) water was rough, couldn't really swim. Only 2calm days..

We love Lamai Beach. The surf was a bit rough this time but the beach is brilliant. We like it more than Chaweng because the water is deeper and more circulation. The beach is less busy than Chaweng also. There is many neat activities even a machine you can fly above the water behind a jet ski. Love this beach!
