Rustic Thai dining at its best.
Beautiful food served in an amazing location. We don't normally eat in the same place more than once when we are away as we like to try different things but this place became a regular haunt and we were sad to leave it behind and come home.

The bigger more popular place next door is called Five Islands. I found Island View to be more personal, much cheaper, and very authentic and tasty food. The duck curry is amazing. All made from scratch.

We spent a week traversing around Koh Samui in hunt of the island’s best Thai food (many according to Trip Advisor) and were merrily full of delicious meals until we found our final and favorite restaurant, to which no other compared, The Island View Restaurant.

We started with Tom Yam soup with prawns, undoubtedly my favorite soup of the trip. Next we enjoyed the Vegetable spring rolls (with a sweet and a spicy sauce), Laab Moo (spicy minced pork salad), Sea bass filet fried with coconut red curry sauce (absolutely delicious), and Gai hor bai teuy (fried chicken breast in pandanus leaves). This chicken, along with the magical views of coral and islands, brought us back the next day for our last meal before departing the island.

For lunch we dined on the Tom Yam soup with prawns (yes, had to get it again) and the Tom Kah Gai (creamy deliciousness). We loved the appetizer platter for two, with pork toast (never knew it could be so tasty), chicken satay, spring rolls, and shrimp tempura. And for our last bite in Koh Samui, that delicious chicken cooked in pandanus leaves. Oh I almost forgot to mention the banana flambé with coconut ice cream we had after dinner, absolutely divine.

At night, the place was quite romantic, but the daytime delivered exquisite beauty. After eating lunch, we enjoyed a few cold Changs while relaxing in the restaurant’s beach chairs, admiring the turquoise water and distant islands.

The bathrooms were clean and provided toilet paper, a sink, and soap (things I found to be rare in many other establishments).

The staff was the friendliest we met and we were absolutely bummed that we hadn’t found this fabulous gem earlier in our trip. It was undeniably the best restaurant we visited on the island.

Be sure to call ahead for a reservation.

Staying at the Intercontinental, we wanted to see the local spots. We kayaked over for a beer, then stayed for a couples massage on the water (300 Thai Bhat), then stayed for another beer while we decided what to do next. Ordered the chicken satay that was perfectly done with a curry peanut sauce. Then finally kayaked back to the Intercontinental. The staff was courteous. We can't wait to come back. They offer a free shuttle from the Intercontinental. Come for the beer and sunset views, stay for the food.

One of THE most stunning locations on the beachfront in an unspoilt area, very friendly smiling staff, good food at good prices! Lots of choice of food and happy hour too!
