Seating shaded by the overhanging trees right on the beach.
Very friendly staff.
Great to relax and watch the people falling off the inflatables at the Aquapark :)

Thank Andy B

My son and myself got a bad case of Gastroenteritis from eating in this place.

I normally try to avoid anything uncooked in the 3rd world, and I thoroughly asked the man behind the counter what was in the food (for lunch they had only 3 food options; “Rice on Top”, “Burger”, “Ham & Cheese Sandwish”).

As he stated the Burger had Mayo, I ordered the ham and cheese sandwish without mayo and lettuce, for me and for my 4 year old son, thinking that it should be fairly safe then.

The sandwishes arrived with a thick layer of mayo, which I despite my initial hunch to not eat, I ate anyway. Fortunately my son had only a few bites, and I ate the rest of his too.

We also both had a glass of juice, which was served with an awful lot of ice cubes (strictly speaking the gastro could have come from these drinks also!).

For 24 hours prior to that, we didn’t eat the same food, and we didn’t eat the same until after we recovered, so there is no doubt that the Monkey Bar was the source of our gastro cases.

Next day, I ended up with 40.3 C fever and was hospitalised in Bangkok Hospital Samui for 1 day/night as a result of this meal. I needed IV liquid, and I got IV antibiotics to suppress the infection.

My son started vomiting, but his case was not so severe so he could do with tablets, and he wasn’t hospitalised.

Thanks to the Monkey Bar, we lost 3 days of our vacation, and had to be very careful for the rest of the trip, not going too far from a toilet.

Btw.: I didn’t see any running water in the place, nor any fridges. I only saw cooler boxes.

Some people seem very happy about this place. Some even talk about detox-juices…. IMO that is [--] – unless you think detox involves gastro!

Don’t go there!

I stayed in Chaweng beach on Koh Samui island and walked just a few blocks down the main road to find this hidden gem.

It was quiet, on the beach, had a good food menu, great apple fritters and even better drinks. I really enjoyed the detox health drinks, especially the Strawberry Mojito.
