Beryl Bar is just a 5 minute walk down the dusty road that the Mai Samui Resort sits on. Greeted by a paper mache Santa Claus and reggae music we were slightly skeptical. Piak (the owner) was just as friendly as the other reviews have implied and came right out and greeted us and chatted... Plastic chairs and table cloths and kind of a hodgepodge of lights, flags and decor, Beryl Bar can definitely be described as casual dining. It overlooks a bay and the sea which affords a fabulous view of the sunset. We sat down, ordered drinks and started exploring the menu, immediately identifying about 12 things we wanted to to try.... the service was quick and friendly and the food was absolutely divine. Tempura Shrimp, coated and cooked to perfection in a coconutty, crisp batter, Penang curry which put all other Thai food I have eaten to shame with its herbaciousness and depth and last but not least, Pad Thai which was basically a flavor explosion of acidity, sweetness, salt and spice. We loved it so much we went back twice during out stay at Mai Samui resort... do yourself a favor and seek it out... you will not regret it!

If your staying in Mai samui, go here... Everyday, the good is amazing, the seafood is amazing and it is really cheap, open all hours just really relaxed! Turn left out of Mai samui and walk to the end of the road past PJs... Don't go to PJs and just give up

At the end of the road past Mai Samui Beach resort and spa, that google maps tells you is the Four Seasons, is a collection of huts with a 10ft plastic father Christmas outside it. Its not the Four Seasons, but in its own way, its just as good.
We ate here 3 times and had the choice of all the other places close by, it was peaceful, had a great view of the bay it sat on, the staff were great and the food delicious. There were random backpackers and portraits of Bob Marley around, the sort of place you'd see Daniel Craig in on a post 007 sabbatical.
Brilliant food, ice cold drinks and great views, brilliant

Just returned from 2 weeks in Mai Samui Resort Koh Samui. We had read the reviews of Beryl's bar on TA so ate there the first night and what s meal. We ate there every night of our holiday it was fantastic and made it our best holiday experience ever and we have visited many places through out the World. Piak and his family made us so welcome and took us all around the island. But their rustic food was the highlight, you all need to visit Beryl's bar.
I love Northants

My partner and I took a scooter ride just having a look around, noticed a very small sign saying Beryl Bar, so down a long dirt road we went... and then bang right there water and restaurant, the owner and his family are so friendly, he told us of a Budda Cave that you can only get to around though the water and over rock, but wow when we got there I felt truly blessed, a cave with so many Budda's in different sizes carved out of the rock, amazing.
