Description: Adding cutting-edge design, a global lifestyle with modern luxuries to Thailand, the hip W Retreat Koh Samui also offers the ultimate culinary indulgence with its signature restaurant, Namu. Taking its name from the Korean word for wood, Namu combines the basic life elements to create a new culinary world that embodies Asia Tomorrow. Stylish individual elements underline the minimal clean lines of the decor that sets the scene for inventive Japanese cuisine. Step through the dramatic entrance surrounded by an enchanting water feature inside, subdued lighting suffuses the dining area with a intimate vibe. A dramatic textured ceiling spirals downwards, flanked by green glass rods, representing bamboo. Diners can opt to sit outside on the beachside terrace, at one of the six tables indoors, or at the best seats in the house - along the counter of the open kitchen for a firsthand glimpse of the action. The innovative menu at Namu offers a diversity of dining experiences, re-interpreting influences from around Asia and especially Japan, while retaining intrinsic flavor profiles. In keeping with the traditional Asian concept of dining, a shared table concept that celebrates the compatible textures and flavors is encouraged. Cutting-edge and daring, Namu is a sensual dining experience that constantly re-invents itself, while showcasing the Asia of tomorrow.

“Memorable meal”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

We had a fabulous dinner at Namu that will surely stand out as one of our more memorable meals in Thailand. Being located on the W Resort's property, needless to say, the service was impeccable. We were staying a different hotel, and when we arrived at the main entrance for dinner, we were whisked away on a golf cart down to the restaurant which was a good 5 minute ride from the hotel lobby. The restaurant's ambience is lovely, and the food is incredible. We got a sashimi sampler with some of the best salmon and tuna I have ever had. Another highlight was our soft-shell crab and salmon sushi roll which was very special. However, the highlight of the meal was the lobster with udon noodles in a sweet chili sauce. Decadent does not begin to describe how wonderful this dish was. I would go back again just for this. Dessert was also noteworthy- a strawberry and almond ice cream combination that was refreshing and light- the perfect ending to the meal. It was one of our more expensive meals since visiting Thailand (around $140), but it included four courses, sparkling water and coffee, and was well worth it for the outstanding food and special experience.

“Japanese food but not as we know it”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

This restaurant is at W resort which is worth seeing in itself. We read a rave review in one of the local guides so were expecting something very special. Unfortuantely, the food did not quite live up to the hype. The service and ambience is great, however, and they catered very well to the young children at the table next to ours. Pricey, so take your credit card.

“Best Japanese food inThailand”
Reviewed September 25, 2012 via mobile

First night at the W we decided on the Namu fine dining restaurant down on the beach. It was a nice buggy ride down to Sip Bar for a refreshing cocktail before dinner at Namu nearby.Started with mixed sashimi and sushi and ngiri freshly prepared by the chef almost right in front of u.Followed this with the Teppan Grill menu with prawns , Grade 9 Wagyu, Ocean trout and a couple of fixed dishes from the pan menu of Pork Belly.Only regret is had no room for dessert...Washed down with a lovely cold sake.. Made for the perfect start to the W holiday.

We stayed at the W for 5 nights and visited Namu for 2 times and still we still haven't had enough! The food was so fresh and creative. Sake was awesome too! Make sure you ask to sit at the chef table, where the chefs are literally preparing the food in front of you. Great dining experience!

“3 had sushi, 3 got sick!”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

We were craving simple sushi after weeks of Thai food. We had heard good things about this place. The restaurant appeared very clean ad was part of a major hotel, so we figured what could possibly go wrong. About 5 hours later we found out. Of our party of 4, three of us had sushi. All three of us our now sick. Do not eat sushi here.
