I have never been to the Maldives but I honestly do not know how you can top this property in southern Thailand...or anyplace else in the world. Each generously sized room has a COMMANDING view of the ocean and (hold your breath) a private infinity pool. Of course, the place is not cheap but its worth every penny in terms of total and complete privacy, suburb relaxation, incredibly accommodating style, and wonderful Thai service. Do you care for a rainshower shower or a deep tub that could fit half of the island's population? A bottle of wine was included in my room, which is a first, too. If your jaw doesn't drop here, you are beyond hope and maybe even dead.

Room Tip: Lowest room numbers are closest to the beach and under the higher room numbers

I am now in a position to tell you which of the newer five stars in Samui is the best -
four seasons - stunning reception - average villas in mosquito ridden jungle, below average service and chaoitic management - not improved over my two stays.
Six senses - supposed eco resort but with villas showing their age, rubbish air con, loads of mosquitos and average at best service.
Banyan tree -stunning villas (but stay at any banyan tree and they are the same) great spa but dreadful service.
W retreat- full of middle aged people trying to be down with the kids. Irritating piped house music everywhere and unimpressive villas and in a very average location.
And the winner is The Conrad !
Situated on a very steep hill side with south facing villas which get the sun all day ! They feel very private and have every concievable luxury you would require.
Service was outstanding - all staff made an effort to remember your name and know how long you were staying. Cold towels offered all the time and just willing to go that extra mile.
Service was very prompt and telephone always answered by someone whos english was excellent.
The choice and quality of food was brilliant.
The only downside I can think of is the location may make it unsuitable for people who are nervous of heights. The villas are all the same but the higher up ones are the cheapest - so if you are a bit nervous book one lower down.
At the time I booked the Conrad was the second cheapest and certainly offers the best value and quality of the five resorts. It certainly does have a remote location but all the resorts require a taxi ride to go anywhere especially the four seasons but if you dont like this book a four star in Chaweng.

Room Tip: Pick lower down ones if you are scared of heights

I have recently come back from a stay at this resort and although i never leave any reviews on here i had to do it for this hotel.

This place is simply a little Gem hidden from the busy touristy areas on Koh Samui and is the closest to paradise you will ever get.

The views are outstanding, the Villas are spotless and modern with amazing infinity pools, food is delicious and most importantly the staff provided a high end customer service that you cannot fault at all. They smiled every time and took the time to greet you and made you feel welcome each time, that help put a smile on my face every day. :)

Another highlight is having the sunset every night which was a huge bonus. Most well known beaches are located in areas with the sunrise so you hardly get to see it on the island however you can enjoy sunset dinners at your own pool side from the comfort of your own villa.

I can honestly go on about this hotel all day as i have done with all my friends and i cannot recommend it more to anyone. The best holiday Ever for me. Thailand is stunning but this little Gem makes even more worthwhile.

Maria

The lay out of the resort is wonderful and the view from the rooms is breath-taking. Every room is a private villa with pool facing the sea. If you can get a decent room rate it is a great place to stay. The service is nice, they took us to the pharmacy nearby when my wife needed pills for a runny nose (doesn't sound much but it was a nice touch). Just come here, relax, eat and drink and look at the view!

Room Tip: All rooms are decent and face the sea with a private pool for each room.

A totally secluded resort, that you would have to drive about 5mins through steep uphill slopes that brings you to the most fabulous views greeting you at the top of the hill.

We didn't actually stay at the resort (even though it was within the first few months of opening and there was an opening special), but the staff was kind enough to bring us to have a look at the rooms, and tour the resort.

Pluses:
Every room has direct ocean view, which is fantastic. You could literally just stay in the resort and not go anywhere else for the entire stay. A fantastic spot for honeymooners!
The staff were great, helpful and efficient. They got a buggy to drive us through a tour of the entire resort.
Even the spac, the steam room and sauna has a view of the ocean too!
The cafe (don't remember the name) by the poolside served fantastic food

Minuses:
i thought the room was a little small (size of room was similar to size of bathroom)
Not much of beach around there.
I was there during rainy season, and after a night of heavy storm, all the twigs and dead leaves were gathered by the edges of Conrad, and the staff haven't made the effort to clean it within half the day.

It was completely awesome and fantastic views at this hotel. Stayed from jul 2-7 2012.
Service perspectives, You can expect similar service at Conrad hotel.
Because of remote and exceptional views, we cannot expect similar value for service to other area, I did spa and Thai rest in the property but it was OK but not equally valuable to,other place you pay. The staffs are great, especially, daily fitness program was excellent including Thai boxing, yoga,,, Mr. Nong in fitness program coordinator has excellent character I met.

Just had a fabulous 10 nights here. We thought this hotel was one of the best beach front properties we have stayed in. It is ideal for people who want to relax and not do much but pool swim, eat and visit the spa. The staff here are terrific and go out of their way to please. This is not a hotel for people who want to swim in the sea or walk on the beach to nearby restaurants. The villa with private pool was amazing and the views sensational. We particularly valued not having noisy boat traffic in front of the hotel and only once saw some visiting jet skis. Unfortunately the jetty was under repair which meant you could not get a boat at the hotel -management should have written to all guests explaining this and indicating when it would be repaired. Also there is no dive centre at the hotel or any dive sites nearby - they need to make this clear on their website as it is misleading. The diving is really at Koh Tao about 90 mins away by speedboat and the dive centre is in another hotel. Annoyingly we took all our dive kit and could have saved the excess baggage charge had we known. Check-in was a farce despite giving them my Diamond card which got resolved but was irritating and check-out which was also a bit slow and confused. All that said the staff, villas and location made up for the short comings.

Room Tip: We stayed in villa 210 which was within easy walking distance of Zest (restaurant) and Azure (pool b...
