“Very Good Price Value”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

We are a young couple from Germany and have spend ten nights in a Pool Villa.
Considering, that Koh Samui is not a remote Island without Tourists, this resort is to us as good as it can get on this island: Good Price / Value (rooms, drinks & food), very friendly Staff, very nice villas, nice beach, quite, clean and good infrastructure.

Room Tip: Pool Villa highly recommended

Positives:
Hotel right on the beach
enough sunlounges with sun all-day
nice beach
close to a nice restaurant (John's Garden)
breakfast - good buffet
front desk staff always tried to be helpful

Negatives:
pool very chlorinated
a la carte menu ok - average hotel prices
set menu for 24/25th Dec overpriced with not great choices (carrot soup)
english-background manager always around but rarely greeted people
view from room was of a concrete wall
3 times ordered from the restaurant, twice were given the wrong thing.

Our stay here ended terribly with my husband falling through the pool deck as it collapsed beneath him. No one came to assist him despite there being multiple staff around the pool deck. When he could get someone's attention, he got a bandaid, no apology or enquiring how he was. When we approached the front desk, we could get 2 more bandaids, again no apology or enquiry as to how he was.

The gardeners promptly patching the hole - they were well practiced and we noticed that these patches were everywhere!
When I insisted we speak to a manager, a very polite junior manager who apologised. We saw him showing the hole to the English manager later.

So we checked out with no apology from the senior manager. My husband's ankle is very sore and difficult to walk on and is covered with grazes and cuts (and the 3 bandaids).

I decided to book a pool villa in Saree samui after comparing the reviews and prices of various hotels in Samui. A wonderful resort with people as lovely as the place. Me n my wife arrived 2 hours before the check in time without any prior notification but we were accommodated immediately as our villa was ready. The room was neat with clean linen. The décor of the villa was stunning, I loved the open bathroom and hot tub. The pool is big enough for a splash n relaxing. There are lots of plants n trees inside the villa , so can expect the pool to get dirty with strong winds blowing throughout the day but it gets cleaned everyday. The beach side restaurant is amazing. The complimentary breakfast had lots of variety with good taste. The white sand beach was clean and a superb view of the sea and Koh Phangan. The rates at the spa are reasonable when compared to other resorts and good value for money!! We made good use of the music system and the dvd player in the villa.
The Lomprayah pier is only a 5 mins walk from the resort , from where the High speed boats and ferry to Ang tong marine park start. I booked the island tour from the resort in their private car but the trip to Ang tong marine park was much cheaper when We booked it from outside. Lots of car n bike rental shops between the resort n the ring road which is only a 10 mins walk away . We got a complimentary wine bottle and a cake as we were on our honeymoon which made us feel special!!! To summarise our visit , I would say a memorable stay at this wonderful resort which I am sure will attract more tourists in the days to come.

saree samui is quite secluded and so very good for those wanting to get away from it all.
the service is very good - attentive staff, especially a certain mr wee at the poolside and the breakfast staff.
l like that the room compound has a garden with a lovely shady tree and other plants.
the spa was not bad too - had a couple of wonderful thai massages, although the open-air aspect meant there was the occassional flying insect, but it's not a big problem.
breakfast was more than adequate.

my main grouse is noisy kids and tour groups - i was rather hoping for peace and quiet and i really think more people - as in adults - would feel the same way. somehow i don't think running/screaming kids and invasive tour groups add anything to the ambience of the place...saree samui should market iself as an adult-only place.

overall, it was a good experience and i would return.

We spent 2 nights here - one on our way to Koh Tao and another on the way back, since the first night was so pleasant. The rooms are just beautiful... really enjoyed the concept of the open plan with the cute garden, outdoor living room and outdoor bathroom. As others have mentioned, you do get some noise from surrounding rooms - we had a family next to us one night and could hear everything they said, so although you might feel secluded, don't count on not being heard. The restaurant was below average: lovely location on the beach, but they need a new chef as the food's not up to the standard of the hotel. Service was very smiley, polite and friendly - reminds us how Thai hospitality used to be (we have felt the standards slip dramatically over the years).

We did have one issue with the motorbike we rented from them - it had a strange wobble to it right from the outset and the tyre punctured after us having driven only on the main road to Chaweng, no real bumps or incidents to note. They nevertheless charged us for the cost of fixing it - fortunately it was only $5 but since the incident happened only hours after we rented it and they knew we only went to Chaweng (and considering the incident put a hole in our day as well) we thought they could have waived that cost.

The main problem with Saree though is the location... we are not big fans of Koh Samui at all, it's so dirty and over touristed: Koh Tao and Phangan are much nicer. Saree is located too close to the Mae Nam jetty so the view is not very nice (unless you like looking at long, ugly piers). The water looks nice from a distance but a closer look will tell you it is very polluted - so much so that we went for a swim and promptly got out, as we could see it was brown and cloudy. The boats may be one contributor but there are also quite a lot of streams of goodness knows what water flowing over the sand and into the ocean in the area. The sand is originally white but look closely and you will see a layer of black residue.. yuck. It feels like Samui is overdue for a really good clean-up. Until then, we will steer clear.

Room Tip: Both rooms we had were exactly the same so I don't think it's a big issue. Do be aware that...

beach front villa is not on the beach, it's behind the pool. each bungalow is surrounded by high walls which are ok for privacy, but you have no view at all... unless you open the large shutters at the front, but then you stare at the pool which is about five steps up ( no view of beach at all) . not worth paying a penny extra for a "beach front" at all. food ok, staff was friendly but it seemed a lot of them were new. no real bar to hang out at, just a small hut with two small wood tables. not comfy... over all ok, but nothing to write home about.

Room Tip: beach front not really beach front

From the minute we arrived here everything has been wonderful. The room is gorgeous, the bed comfortable, and as for the bathroom, with open air shower-divine.
The staff have been so friendly and helpful, with advise about the island, tours, weather, shopping and organizing a safe and reliable motor bike.
We normally like to try out different restaurants, but have found we have kept to the hotels one this time, as after a full on day, its been heavenly to relax by the pool and then walk to a table set out for us on the beach.
As for the beach, our biggest dilemma was do we swim in the pool or the beach. The sea is clean and clear, and so warm.
The best thing if I could single one thing out, is the staff. They are all wonderful, and we could never list them all. But Eve at front desk, Lek, June, Ja, Aek and all the restaurant staff were wonderful hosts, the Omelet man, number 1. And Moss the man who served us the best drinks behind the bar, gorgeous, with a great sense of humor.
Our only advise would be dont hesitate to book this accommodation, we have been lucky enough to have stayed in many varied places, and we would rank this as one of the high lights, just take some time to get to know the staff, after all they are what makes the island what it is.
