“Good Food Delicious, But Bad and Rude Owner.”
Reviewed September 11, 2012

I have been a customer for years and have enjoyed the food, until recently service has been deteriorating, on three occasions the food was or incorrectly prepared or missing something, i.e. forgot the cheese on a pasta, the staff argue and say its good enough, they are backed up backed by a very rude and impolite owner, the service used to be much better I don't know what to say but I am shocked, I would accept on one occasion but so far its been three times. The last time, the owners wife apologised for their behaviour and offered a refund.

“Excellent crust, beautiful fresh salads, service . . . well, this is Thailand.”
Reviewed April 2, 2012

Stefano's has outstanding crust and beautiful fresh salads but the service is dependent on whether Stefano himself is present (he splits his time between this and his other location, Girsasole, inside the moat). There's been a noticeable drop in organization, service accuracy, attentiveness and efficiency when I've dined there in his absence.

“Italian Experience”
Reviewed March 26, 2012

Well here we are all moved in. Looking for decent food and here it is. Now I am no expert but the service was friendly and the food great. Found house wine treat and wonderful. I will come here for my authentic Italian food.
I recommend this to all. They are busy people are filling this place up.

“If this is the best Italian in the city... be afraid!”
Reviewed March 24, 2012

In its defence, that main courses are OK. Nothing special, but OK. After that, it's all down hill.

This is Thailand, so it's no surprise that the house wine is pretty rough, and the bottled wines are expensive. But that doesn't explain why the Amaretto tastes like someone added almond essence to vodka, or why their smoothies were the worst we've had in Chaing Mai.... Everything we drank here was disappointing.

And the deserts were also very poor - and not especially Italian. The owner (or manager?) sounded like he was genuinely Italian, so does he not know that tiramisu is made with zabaione? - cream is not an adequate substitute... and tiramisu shouldn't be half frozen. My guess would be that the deserts were bought pre-made from a catering company, and stored in the restaurant freezer.

After a week in Chiang Mai, we were ready for some non-Thai food. But our meal here was the most expensive we've had, the food the most uninspiring; the restaurant had exactly zero atmosphere, the service was lacklustre (and occasionally grumpy), and there was little Italian about this Italian restaurant. So now, we're very happy to be getting back to Thai food.
