“A beautiful Oasis”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2014

We stayed at Oriental Siam for 3 nights and could not fault the welcome, service and facilities. Rooms are immaculate small villas surrounded by lush vegetation, cool pool and staff who go the extra mile. Food served is wonderful and attention to detail striking. Free drive to the centre is available and pick up anywhere. Thoroughly recommend from romantic couples to families with children.

A small piece of paradise-a boutique resort of a small numberof villas with lush surroundings-a family concern with their personnel care.Out of town with its advantages -excellent base for touring but peace and quiet to return to. Thoroughly justifies the Tripadvisor award.

Just a short ride ( 150 Bht) out of town - a very peaceful, green location next to Wat Si Buang Neurn. Wonderful ambiance around large lotus pond ....Huge rooms, squeaky clean throughout. Great breakfasts around the pond area. Delightful staff - and I think the owners Pongsri & Peter must be congratulated on creating this perfect place to stay in the ever busy & bustling Chiang Mai.

We had a pre-Lunar New Year break at Oriental Siam in Chiang Mai for a week and loved it!

This place had good reviews, but we were not entirely sure what to expect and had never visited Chiang Mai. From the time we booked the trip, the service was exceptional. We arrived in the evening and found Chiang Mai a little cooler in the evening (and early mornings) than expected, but were welcomed very warmly. We didn't get much chance to look around, but on checking the place out the next morning found that it was very small and intimate, despite the 'resort' tag. It did take some getting used to the fact that the property is very small and not at all anonymous, like many of the other resorts we've stayed in, but the service that Pongsri, Peter and their staff offer is second to none.

There are varying size villas and we stayed in the one bedroom near the small restaurant. Pongsri pointed out that they keep things quiet in the evenings and the only noise we experienced the whole time was either from the chickens next door (which they have no control over) or children of other guests. The property is off the main road and away from the hustle and bustle, although as others have pointed out, it's quite a way from Chiang Mai itself. The staff are happy to arrange a car into town and also arranged a tour of some of the beautiful local temples for us, at a reasonable price. There's a 7-11 near if you need supplies of any kind and it's a 10-15 minute walk to an amazing new mall where we had a couple of meals and did some casual shopping - I also had a pedicure (the resort has no spa) and we could have seen a movie if we'd wanted to.

We ate some lovely breakfasts at the resort, which I really enjoyed, and several of our dinners there also, although I did find the menu quite limited after a couple of meals. Mr Top and the team looked after us beautifully at every meal and were genuinely warm and welcoming throughout our stay. No one seemed to eat lunch at the resort (maybe they didn't need to after such a generous breakfast), so breakfast and dinner appeared to be the main meal offerings. It was very pleasant sitting near the pond on the small deck to have our meals, although a little cool in the early morning and evenings in late Jan / early Feb.

We spent some time by the pool, which I only hopped in and out of because it was quite chilly. Given temperatures normally hit 35-40 outside of the Nov-Feb timeframe, I guess they don't need to worry about warming the water up.

The only minor criticisms I'd have of Oriental Siam are the lack of directory in the room telling you how the place works. I think because it's so intimate they assume you'll ask someone for anything you want, but sometimes you just want to understand the basics without having to do that. There was not a hairdryer in the room (although almost everything else we could have wanted was there), which surprised me - I managed without and didn't bother asking about one, so no big deal. Again, the chickens they can't do anything about, but are still a little annoying when you're trying to sleep. If I could have given 4.5 stars I would have - I reserve 5 stars for something truly, truly amazing and really, this was close.

In summary, Oriental Siam was an unexpected delight and we'd definitely consider returning. Pongsri, her husband Peter, Mr Top and the other staff all did an excellent job of making us feel at home and relaxed and seemed to genuinely care about us having a wonderful stay. The intimate environment wasn't necessarily something we looked for, but ended up very much enjoying. So much so that we really didn't see that much of Chiang Mai (except for a short tour, a wonderful spa that the team helped me book, and a couple of meals in town), so we'll have to come back again!

Pongsri and Peter are wonderful hosts and owners of this beautiful serene place. So much to look at from tiny wooden bridges over lovely koi filled streams,in tropical landscaped setting leading to the nicely laid out villas along the paths.. Each villa is tucked into its own little garden of greenery and flowers and water. Pongsri and staff love tropical flowers and they appear at each new turn we take through the resort.

Even when full, this place is so quiet...perfect for my husband and I who have spent many lazy days here already, just lounging around the bubbling pool. There are lovely greenery and flowering planting areas separating all villas and we have one that nicely separates the pool from our wonderful outside private sitting area......very large for loads of privacy. Our red tiled flooring iwith wooden covered roof contains a huge wood carved table with 6 very comfortable chairs with private tea/coffee buffet. Large, ancient trees are also in our area of the patio....holding up the wooden roof structure. ..we feel like we are camping in luxury in this area which is just out side our door.
The entire staff is here to ensure you a great stay. The rooms are always cleaned to perfection. Bed is firm but comfortable, ditto on pillows. Need anything, just ask and they will do for you.
Getting around is no problem..for most things a 5 minute notice is all you need to inform them you want a driver to take you some where...I know of at least 3 drivers...maybe more...we have personally used 2 of them....both excellent, safe drivers and will serve you to your exact schedule , no worries. Always very prompt for any tour you chose.
To get to tape gate of old city is a direct road from hotel so you arrive down town in ashort time...maybe 15 minutes. So being outside noisy, busy, crowded Chiang Mai city was better for us. There is a local village here and some small shops and local bar; you can even buy chocolate covered magnum bars, sodas, etc, and a 7 11 not too far away by foot. But our refrig is also well stocked so you don't have to go anywhere.
But......The local wat adjacent to resort is nice and a bit different from others we have seen...and you will see it by yourself most days if you care to take a stroll. Area seems ver safe place to be...families, scooters around local shopkeepers who smile, especially if you greet them with sawadee!
For those of you that only want constant action, staying in Chiang Mai city better, but if you want both action and then peace and quiet, this place is perfect. Being away for us is best and with resort iso close yet a tad outside the craziness , anytime we want to do something inside the city we can quickly go there. This location is very convenient to see many things in the countryside, no fighting downtown traffic to get to countryside. Elephant camp, waterfalls, doi sutep mountain all close...a big plus for this location.

Dinners are candle lit by lotus flower pond with waterfall. Our favorite dinner is the chicken with cashews and chilies...made to your liking. Very good breakfasts keep you full until evening. There is no lunch served here but if you just ask if you are hungry they will make something for you...we got some delicious fried spring rolls served to us by the pool. You can also get a massage anywhere. Don't hesitate to ask for anything you desire...as they say, no problem....this is your holiday ,we will do for you whatever you wish.
Also, there is a new, modern mall and big C near the resort where you can bank, get food, clothes shop, and so much more. Dukes and Dairy Queen, and KFC for a Change of pace from thai food...great pizza, pasta, fried chicken, and ice cream floats/malts. As we are staying here nearly 2 weeks, this is good as the evening restaurant at resort is mainly Asian foods though we got good French fries one night. Loving it here this Valentine day.

Room Tip: They all look good...we found our room in bottom of main villa was more than enough for us, given th...

We have been to Chiang Mai many times. However this time round was not planned. We ended up there as a result of the unrest in Bangkok-we changed our travel plans. Being high season 4 to 5 star accommodation was difficult to come by at short notice. So in January 2014 we moved from one establishment to the next in Chiang Mai.Oriental Siam Resort could not confirm the booking via Booking.com but suggested we pitch up anyway to check whether we could be accommodated. When we arrived the resort was fully booked. The owners at Siam Oriental Resort booked us in at Kham Mon Lanna a short distance from there. They dropped us off and picked us up from there. The owners at the Siam Oriental Resort recommended we enjoy dinner and breakfast at their establishment. Dinner and breafast were great. Staff was ultra friendly and helpful. We were allowed to make use of internet facilities too, while there. The short time spent there was good. We certainly hope to sleep there the next time we are in Chiang Mai. I'll give the establishment a 3.7 out of 5.

The resort is a fabulous place to enjoy the morning sunshine by the pool which was cocooned with greenery and beautiful Oriental style accommodations, and good breakfast to enjoy alongside. The rooms are tasteful and the resort itself is very serene. In particular, would like to point out the exceptional hospitality of the hostess, who had someone sent all the way to the airport to deliver my phone charger that I had mistakenly left behind in the resort. Exceptional service which ensured that we had a perfect stay..
