Huge portions of really great food. Is it true Mexican food...no. And that's what makes it special. I'd say it's like California fusion, but as far as I know there's nothing like it in CA. Every dish I've had there is excellent, and I've had most of them. The pumpkin soup is the best there is. For what you get, the prices are reasonable.

The Salsa Kitchen continues to provide consistently good food. We ordered chicken enchaladas, shrimp tostadas and beef floutas and we enjoyed them all. The portions continue to be large so it is a good spot if you are hungry and wanting a change from Thai food. We also ordered lemonade and it was freshly made and very refreshing. I loved the margarita pie and the coffee was good. The atmosphere was fun and upbeat. We enjoyed our evening.

This was once our favorite Mexican in Chiang Mai. I still think they have the tastiest and best salsa. But I agree with a couple other reviews that it has gone downhill. My wife and I had noticed that the owners have been nowhere to be seen for about our last 10 visits and the quality of the food now coming out of the kitchen leaves much to be desired with food sometimes cold or poorly prepared. Does no one look what leaves the kitchen anymore? Also, on several occasions the noise, laughing and chatter by the kitchen/cook staff (in the back behind the curtain) was louder than that being made by the customers and music. MORE LIKE A PARTY IN THE BACK!!! I must say the service staff HAS been attentive and offered to correct problems on 2 of our last 3 visits...i.e. cold food....wrong order.

We won't go back until the owners are more involved again and the kitchen staff can prove to be more professional.....or are GONE!!! We use to eat here a couple of times a week going back about a year ago. Our visits have been all hours during lunch, early evening or later at night. To be fair...good Margaritas, tasty desserts and competent servers.

A plea to the owners..."YOU'D BETTER GET MORE INVOLVED AGAIN...YOU USE TO HAVE THE BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN TOWN!!!"

Overall it's a pleasant atmosphere but we give it a low rating because the disconcerting noises coming from your kitchen staff......this on almost EVERY visit!!!

We ate here twice as the first time it was excellent. We had guacamole, chips/salsa, strawberry shake, chicken quesadilla, and sangria...all were wonderful and arrived in a timely fashion (though there was only one other table of two). The second time we visited, they were completely out of guacamole, which was the main reason we returned (and it was only 30bht...about $1US). It went downhill from there; we always had to flag down the server, food took forever (about 3 other tables), strawberry shake was watered-down, chips were not served hot as before, ordered extra cheese and it had less than the last time with the regular amount! Guess it just depends which day you go, but it can be great or just so-so.
