“Great value luxury chain hotel in Chiang Mai”
Reviewed December 31, 2013

I spent two nights in a Horizon Club Suite while on vacation from a hardship post in Eastern Europe/Central Asia, and it was exactly the getaway that I needed: excellent service, immaculate and luxuriously comfortable rooms, and ample hotel facilities (pool and gym).

LOCATION: A short eight-minute ride by tuk-tuk or songthaew from the moat-encircled old town and a five-minute walk to the night market.

ROOM: The room was well-appointed with a very comfortable king-sized bed and relaxing bath. The complimentary fruit and bottled water were a nice touch, especially in the hot summer season. I had a nice view of the pool and lush landscape around it.

SERVICE: The service was great and really stood out when I encountered some last minute problems with my outgoing flight being changed. The staff was very helpful in resolving these issues before I left.

BREAKFAST: The included breakfast buffet is an eclectic mix of Western and Eastern food. For example, one morning I saw the following on offer: bacon, hash browns, grilled tomatoes, lanna style hinlay pork curry with steamed rice, sushi rolls, smoked salmon, cured meats, cheeses, chocolate croissants, chocolate covered donuts, muffins, homemade granola, cappuccino, espresso, and a variety of juices.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES:
- The complimentary late check-out option was useful and allowed me to enjoy more time in Chiang Mai and at the hotel before I left.

- The pool is very nice, and the pool attendants will bring you towels, some fresh fruit, and bottled water (in addition to anything else you may want to order).

- The gym is fully-equipped for lifting (free weights, machines) and cardio (ellipticals, treadmills, and stationary bikes). Out of curiosity, I took a yoga class as well, but it would be better to go to a local yoga studio if you're at all familiar with yoga. The yoga mats were for general gym activities and not designed for yoga (they were too short, lacked sufficient traction, and were too spongey to stand on with stability). The instructor did his best and was very pleasant but didn't seem to know much about yoga (and he wore thick-soled tennis shoes the whole time).

- Happy hour - In the Horizon Club Lounge, there is also a complimentary happy hour each afternoon, featuring a diverse selection of hors d'oeuvres (again, a mix of Western and Eastern foods) and free drinks (beer, spirits, and cocktails).

Room Tip: The extra cost of the Horizon Club Suite is well-worth it, considering the extra-attentive service...

This is a great hotel and is located in a great location. The service is amazing. The hotel staff are all very helpful. I would recommend staying at the Horizon Club which offers you a better concierge service among other perks. The only reason I gave this hotel 4 stars rather than 5 is because the beds are the WORST I have ever slept on. The hardest mattress imaginable. I even tried changing rooms, but they are all the same.

My wife and I recently stayed here during our 2-day trip to Chiang Mai. Neither of us had been to Chiang Mai before, and we did not really know what to expect.

The hotel is located in a downtown district. The night market, which operates 7 nights per week, is located less than a 5 minute walk from the front door, yet the hotel is far enough away that you don't feel like you are right on top of the market.

The hotel itself is quite large. The grounds and pool are beautiful, and the rooms are spacious and and in good condition. I have never experienced a shower with such water pressure! If you turn it all the way up, you might think you are taking a shower with a fire hose! The staff is friendly and helpful.

However, in hindsight, we would have preferred to stay at one of the smaller hotels in a more hipster area of town.

**Bottom line**
If you want a large-scale resort right in the heart of downtown near the night market, you will not be disappointed by this hotel! But having been to Chiang Mai, I now realize that there are some cool, small hotels located in very interesting sections of town on the other side of the river, and such hotels might be better if you are travelling solo or without the rest of the family.

We spent 5 nights at this hotel and had a very comfortable stay. It's a little distance away (100 baht tuk tuk ride or 20 min walk) from the old part of the city and v close to the daily night market.

The service was great throughout, room was spacious and comfortable, breakfast had an excellent variety of international and Asian items, the Thai massage at the spa was very good, and the ambience of the hotel welcoming.

The free in-room wifi was very weak and we had to sit in the lobby to get a decent connection.

Would stay here again.

Beautiful hotel, courteous staff and excellent location. However, would have been great if the hotel had a shop selling swimming trunks as the pool is very nice. Thank you to the management for the room upgrade.

We stayed here as part of our three week honeymoon to Southeast Asia. Our best day at the hotel was when we decided to take a break from exploring the city and just relax by the pool. We had excellent service all day! Very comfortable chairs with big umbrellas. Great drinks and decent lunch. When we had questions about the menu they sent someone over with great english to help us out. Staff came around with popsicles in the afternoon. Very quiet and relaxing, and the grounds are beautiful. The gym is also very nice, always appreciate complimentary cold towels!

Otherwise, we found the hotel to be very nice. Very helpful concierge service. Two cons could be the location and the wifi. The hotel is slightly out of the way from the main sites, but this didn't bother us at all as a tuk tuk ride is $1-$2, which the hotel will call for you, or you can grab one outside the hotel. We also didn't mind walking! The wifi also only seemed to really work in one part of our room, it was fine for us, but i could see how this could be very annoying for some guests. There are not that many upscale hotels in Chiang Mai so we found this to be a perfect option for our honeymoon.

We did not book breakfast at the hotel as we just walked to the starbucks every day, which was about 7 minutes away - towards the night market.

One other tip - check out Peak Spa a few storefronts down from the hotel towards the night market (ask the concierge for directions). We had great thai massages! The entrance is in a alleyway, so it seems a little weird at first, but it's a happening place. People coming in and out all the time. Great prices! We loved it there!
