“Great honeymoon getaway!”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

We stayed here as part of our three week honeymoon to Southeast Asia. Our best day at the hotel was when we decided to take a break from exploring the city and just relax by the pool. We had excellent service all day! Very comfortable chairs with big umbrellas. Great drinks and decent lunch. When we had questions about the menu they sent someone over with great english to help us out. Staff came around with popsicles in the afternoon. Very quiet and relaxing, and the grounds are beautiful. The gym is also very nice, always appreciate complimentary cold towels!

Otherwise, we found the hotel to be very nice. Very helpful concierge service. Two cons could be the location and the wifi. The hotel is slightly out of the way from the main sites, but this didn't bother us at all as a tuk tuk ride is $1-$2, which the hotel will call for you, or you can grab one outside the hotel. We also didn't mind walking! The wifi also only seemed to really work in one part of our room, it was fine for us, but i could see how this could be very annoying for some guests. There are not that many upscale hotels in Chiang Mai so we found this to be a perfect option for our honeymoon.

We did not book breakfast at the hotel as we just walked to the starbucks every day, which was about 7 minutes away - towards the night market.

One other tip - check out Peak Spa a few storefronts down from the hotel towards the night market (ask the concierge for directions). We had great thai massages! The entrance is in a alleyway, so it seems a little weird at first, but it's a happening place. People coming in and out all the time. Great prices! We loved it there!

A lovely exterior situated in the center of town close to the night market. Sadly poor maintenance is starting to show at this relatively new property. If you book with breakfast you will still be charged for any in room breakfast

Stayed for four nights during a conference. The location is not the best but you can walk or take a taxi to anywhere as the city is relatively small; it is very close to the night bazaar.

Rooms were nice, clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay there again but doubt that I'll be returning to Chiang Mai anytime soon,

Up on arrival we were whisked up to the executive lounge on the 11th floor where check in was carried out efficiently and cheerfully by Pui.
The executive lounge, overlooking the pretty gardens and pool, is a pleasant area to enjoy a buffet breakfast, Happy Hour with tasty snacks, or just relax. All the staff are very attentive, helpful and cheerful.
Our stylish spacious premier room had a balcony which overlooked the garden and pool. The comfortable furniture included a day bed, settee, armchair and more although the bed was a tad firm for our tastes. There was a hallway to accommodate luggage etc. the bathroom was well appointed and included a large separate shower.
The linens were well laundered. The bathrobes were snowy white and luxurious. A bank of multi plug sockets was a useful provision. The room was well lit with many lamps. The Christmas gift was a nice touch.
The Thai food we sampled in the main restaurant was delicious and served by pleasant helpful staff.
The Spa seemed good value and we were pleased by our treatments.
All in all this hotel is a haven to return to after a busy day sightseeing and we feel it deserves to be higher than its current place on trip advisor.

Room Tip: We felt it was worth going for a premier room with executive lounge access.

During our recent trip to Thailand, we spent four days at the Shangri-La in Chiang Mai. The hotel experience was great. the rooms and the public spaces are a little dated but very nice none-the -less. The service was very good - the staff were extremely polite and helpful at all times. The pool area was wonderful.... although the rule that you cant wear a t-shirt in the water irritated us a little as we always try to protect our skin. (This is a Thailand wide rule - not only at this hotel). The hotel is only one block from the night markets which was great fun to visit. Most of Chiang Mai's tourist attractions are out of the city so the hotel's location was a little irrelevant to this. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

We are a family of 5 with 9',15,,17 year olds. We stayed for one week to do as many trips as we could fit in . The hotel was perfect. It was very safe, comfortable and friendly with plenty of things to do and a great pool as so many have commented but chilly. Table tennis and giant chess were fun, we used the tennis courts which were ok but would have liked free balls. Fitness center and gym were really good too. The restaurant was great and the kids loved it. It is not that expensive against some of the outside restaurants but of course you can eat cheaply in cm. but can you eat safely? The buffet selection was really good and we all looked forward to it. You must have high tea. That was great.

Stayed at Shangri-La in Chiang Mai for 6 nights with hubby and our 6 year old son at the club lounge level.

The room is spacious and beautifully decorated with quality furniture and lamps. It has that classic look and feel which I really like. The bathroom is very nice and pretty big with separate shower and bathtub. The bathtub also comes with a handheld shower head which is very handy for my son.

We had our buffet breakfast at the club lounge, you can also order the hot food from the menu. I felt the food was good, but not as good as I expected from Shangri-La. I stayed in a few 4 star hotels on the same trip and their breakfasts seem to be better in terms of variety and quality. The club lounge has complimentary drinks all day as well as a happy hour in late afternoon when they serve light finger food. The service is always good, nothing is too much trouble.

It is a short ride on Suang Taew or Tuk Tuk to the old town if you don't feel like walking much.

Overall, an excellent and beautiful hotel with great services at reasonable price. Won't hesitate to stay again.
