This hotel opened   about 3 year in Chiang  Mai at the same time that I departed. ( i lived here for 10 years)

In Michelin red guide book , Shangri-la hotel , This name is ranked  as 5 red pavillions  among Mandarin Oriental hotel , Four seasons hotel in Hong Kong and Tokyo . But in Chiang Mai is NOT. Because of cheap price ( only 100USD for deluxe room+breakfast) , compete with holiday inn , Le meridien not rival of Mandarin oriental daradhevi or Four seasons resort.
#I like manything such as
1. service of staffs  ( reservation, check in, check out, breakfast in restaurant ) ,
2. well equiped gym , hot jacuzzci ,Sauna ( but it is only provide powder and comb in locker room area)

3. featherbed , feather duvet and pillow , high quality bedsheet although it is  only the lowest room categories & very spacious room and no bad smell.

Manything fail criteria of 5 star or Shangri-la hotel brand itself such as
1. cleanliness : obviously fungus plaque and dirted wall and  floor of seperated shower  in guest room and gym locker room.

2. Technology : this hotel provide free  of WiFi throughout hotel but not provide ipod docking station or iphone charger in room or  upon request. Small LCD television ( small as TV in bathroom in some hotel )

3. Breakfast :quality of service staff is excellent , many food choice but not have Smoked salmon( i think 5 star brand hotel must have   It ) chicken and rice is place separate station but pastry line still OK both provide honey( in bottle ) and maple syrup.

3. Hotel amenities : standard but not attractive and poor in gym locker room , no turn down service( may be i came so late (11 pm)

***I ever stayed in Trader hotel in Beijing 2 year ago ( lower grade of Shangri-la but the same chain ) but i think TRADER so much better than here.

Conclusion :
" Lack of CLEANLINESS "  and i amazed this hotel called Shagri-la hotel???

We booked a corner suite up high with great views. Everything was in good taste and up to date. We loved coming back to the Horizon Club at the end of the day for a good strong gin and tonic. Breakfasts are divine. Great gym. Off topic: why don't Thai people like to exercise btw?

Room Tip: Walk across the street and have a bespoke suit made for $200 at any tailor in 24 hours. They will d...

we booked this hotel at the last minute and were immediately impressed. the prices were very reasonable and the service was great. the room are to die for and we were lucky enough to have a pool view. the pool was lovely and thre was enough room to have your own quite space. in terms of location the hotel was close to the night market and some supermarkets. everything else was easily acessable by cab. i recommed this hotel to all. they organised our accomodation in the next few cities we were staying in and were very accomodating.

We chose the Shangrila because it looked like the best five star to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday in Chiang Mai, since I was going to surprise her with a visit to Tiger Kingdom. We positively chose the right hotel. The property is beautiful and the service even better. Upon arrival, the staff upgraded our room to a giant corner suite complete with a birthday cake to help us celebrate this momentous occasion. The best part of our package was access to the Horizon Club Executive Lounge. Among other things, this included a great breakfast that varied each day of our three night stay. They also had a great happy hour with a delectable Australian Chardonnay and Singha beer that we loved. The staff at the lounge both in the morning and the evening delivered impeccable service. They made all guests feel that they were staying at a high class five star hotel, where your wish would be instantaneously fulfilled. I had the same service working with the Concierge desk. Everyone at the Chiang Mai Shangrila was committed to taking care of you. The weather while we were there was awful, but we hardly even noticed it, since we were in the middle of five star luxury service. I highly recommend this hotel, and will return not only Chiang Mai, but other Shangrilas in the future.

Room Tip: Corner suites give you views of both the back and front of the hotel.

Room Tip: I prefer Horizon Club rooms for the location ( on the top floors ) and for the exclusive service

Location, space, architecture, pool, food and service - such a treat. Horizon club suite facing the mountain has wonderful views, if only you don't look down to the main road below, with annoying whirring tuk tuk's. Classical easy listening piano music fills the vast lobby reception that is mostly under appreciated by guests. Kad cafe offers good food with a great promotion for American Express holders where you pay for 1 dinner buffet , get 1 free - 466 baht nett (approx $15 AUD ). At that price we had buffet breakfast and dinner, but broke out on the third night for al-la carte northern style, worth trying, our two cocktails, shared entree and shared three mains came in under 1500 baht, there was definitely too much food. Metered taxis ordered by Concierge, it's all so orderly since out last visit.

I arrived in Chiang Mai on the Wednesday 15th August & was greeted by reception & handed a welcome drink. I booked a executive room & was not disappointed as the room was large & also had good office/wifi facilities in the room as well.

I took advantage if the Chi spa facilites at the resort & it was pure luxury & worth every penny. The restaurant in the hotel had a wide range of local & international dishes available. I tried a range of dishes on the menu & the chef waiting staff & did a great job as I was happy from start to finish.

This hotel I would say is a hidden gem & would advise travellers to visit this resort if not to the hotel then you must try the Spa.

I had a great stay & I will be visitng again in the near future.
