We stayed at theShangri-La for 5 nights on our 1st trip to Chiang Mai. While there were less expensive locations in Chiang Mai we decided to stay at the Shangri-La. It was one of the best decisions we have made. We booked a horizon club room and were given a room overlooking the magnificent pool. From the moment we were greeted upon arrival until we reluctantly had to leave we experienced some of the best service from the the staff of this hotel that we have ever experienced. Everybody went out of their way to help from being greeted by the Management to George and the staff in the horizon club, the concierge team and housekeeping team who kept the room spotless. To them I say Thank You!!
Breakfast in the Horizon club every morning was excellent even down to the eggs cooked to your own liking. We looked forward to happy hour every night in the Horizon Club sitting there enjoying the drinks and food and watching the day end. During the day if we were around it was always good to know you can just drop into the Horizon Club for a nice cold drink or sandwich
The rooms were spacious and spotless.
The location is excellent. Walking distance to the night markets and a short tuk tuk ride to the old city but just far enough away from the night markets to be away from the crowds and noise
This will not be my last trip to Chiang Mai and next time I will definitely be staying at the Shangri-La!!

I stayed here for 4 nights, then continued with the shangri la for 1 more night.I recommend this hotel to stay at for the size of the rooms, turn down every night, fresh fruit in the room, the precise housekeeping staff, the proximity to all sights, tucked away from the frantic night bazaar but close enough to walk 5 minutes max, the pool is an oasis from a days sightseeing and mostly if you do stay here, pay the extra and have HORIZON CLUB benefits.Pui, George and the rest of the most attentive staff, will have you on adventures and experiences that sometimes you can miss. The breakfast my not be as large as the buffet downstairs, but it contains all that you need for a full day of experiences but the peace and quite during breakfast was the best start to my 5 very complete days.To drop by at anytime during the day for a cold drink and a great way to start the evening with 2 hours of relaxed atmosphere of canapes and beverages overlooking the city of chang mai.I had the most perfect poached eggs every morning and nothing was too much trouble for the staff, after 2 days it felt like home.I have worked for the HYATT, STARWOOD and ORIENT EXPRESS HOTELS and I have found my experience at SLCM to be one of the most complete and seamless stays in a hotel, the only complaint that I have is..............i had to leave and continue my journey to bangkok and back downunder.......

The ulitmate was george recommending THE HOUSE restaurant for dinner, surely a must for any foodie in CM....

I will return to chiang mai and will only stay at Shangri la......there is no other option

Room Tip: 1201.......take the stairs down to the next level to the Horizon Club...good heartstarter and saved on power.....

Greeted with a chilled glass of juice with an orchid on the rim, the experience starts well and continues to please. The staff is helpful, courteous, and smiling (except perhaps for rather dour looking security...). My executive room on the top floor overlooked the large pool and its manicured gardens and had all the amenities you would expect, except for an iPod dock.

Breakfast was delicious with a lot of fruit and juices, cooked-to-order eggs, a plentiful meat selection for the carnivores, an adequate selection of breads, and a small selection of Asian offerings.

Evening drinks and snacks in the lounge were OK, but a bit disappointing.

All in all, a wonderful stay with caring service in comfortable surroundings

Room Tip: Higher floors will give the best views, of course.

This is a very nice hotel but very affordable. Horizon Club floor staff was very helpful in planning our activities. Chi Spa as always was excellent, breakfast has a very good spread. Short walking distance to the night market.

Room Tip: Horizon floor is prefered.
