“Lovely peaceful place”
Reviewed December 1, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for a month and we loved it the food is really good and the staff are amazing we were amazed how peaceful it was there right on the edge of the city ... Lovely place to relax by the river and watch the locals fishing.. Also every second Sunday it has music sessions which was brilliant lots of musicians there with all sorts of instruments .. Overall a brilliant place to relax and the accommodation was really nice too ...

What a lovely guesthouse right on the river side, has a good restaurant with a lovely view. We stayed for 2 nights and was good value for money, rooms were basic but they were clean and had no bugs! Had a balcony and chairs so we could sit out so that was nice. Tha staff are all very friendly and always say hello and ask about your day. Had a lovely stay and would return if we came back to chiang mai!

The rooms were simple and clean with the added bonus of a table and chairs so you could eat in your room.
Right on the Mae Ping, their patio area was GREAT. Comfortable and relaxing. The staff were fantastic. It wasn't in the main backpacker area so it was quiet and peaceful. It was easy to find tuktuks and other kinds of transport to and from the guesthouse. The food was pretty good too. Best onion soup and baguettes I've had in Thailand. Great value for money.

We did not stay in the guest house bur went to the restaurant / bar 2 Sundays for a "private party" which was a jam session for some local musicians in Chiang Mai along the Ping River. The crowd is almost all ExPats from US, ENGLAND, AUSTRALIA , HOLLAND, etc. the music is a grat mix of 60's, 70's, 80's, jazz, and blues. WOW, the food is great and low priced for the quality. The wait staff and owner is very nice. The music is every other Sunday from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. We were there today, Sunday, Oct 20 so do the math or call!

Room Tip: Great music and food! Must do on Sunday afternoons!

The Hollanda Montri is situated a few kilometers outside the old city centre. This is in walking distance, but i wouldn't recommend it to do this in the evening or at night because the lack of sidewalks. A tuktuk cost around 60 bath (remember to bargain). The rooms are basic but good and they are clean. The view from the terras is nice and the service of the staff is good. Nice people who are willing to help. The WiFi is from bad quality. Not really skype-proof. The free water is definitly a nice geisture. Booking an activity via the guesthouse is not always the cheapest. If you want the cheapest (and not the easiest) option, go in to town and visit the TAT.

The owners and staff are so lovely, they treat you like guests to their own home rather than their business, and they can never do enough with you - including arranging reliable transport into the city centre and negotiating a better rate for car rental for us. If you want to relax, but be within a very short and cheap drive to the city centre, stay here! The bar/restaurant (amazing food by the way!), is really peaceful with beautiful views right next to the river and with the mountains in the distance. Its so gorgeous! Despite its riverside location you dont really get many mozzies because the staff are kind enough to light mosquito coils on your table as you eat or drink. The rooms are really spacious, clean and comfortable - which we werent expecting due to the very very reasonable price! It was so quiet at night that you could hear the sound of the wildlife outside - but don't worry if youre not a fan because the rooms all have those mesh bug shields over the doors and windows. Staying here you aer allowed to use another hotel's swimming pool which is amazing! Its a short walk through a little vintage market / carboot type thing, perhaps 5 minutes. We love it here and will definitely come back whenever we are in Chiang Mai!!!!!

As two young backpackers we were not expecting this budget guesthouse to be fantastic for the price we paid... How wrong we were! The staff and owners are so friendly and treat you like guests to their home. Nothing is ever too much for them, they managed to sort us reduced rate car rental, reliable tuk tuk trips in to the city centre. The bar and restaurant have great prices, great food and a great atmosphere. The rooms are large, spacious, airy, clean and comfortable. It's so relaxing to sleep to the sound of the nature outside (but don't worry they have bug proof mesh on all the windows and doors so there were no nasty surprises!). You should definitely stay here in chiang mai if you want some rest and relaxation but only a short cheap ride to the city centre. We will definitely be returning very soon!!!
