Stayed with my husband for 2 nights, at 650 per night.

Room: large, top floor with balcony and view (unfortunately facing some large buildings instead of the mountains and evening sunset behind them, backside of the building) comfortable bed, good wifi, fridge, AC, safe and en suite. Overall, felt it was a pleasant room, lots of light and very spacious.

*However, our balcony door wouldn't lock (room 403) so was open for the duration of our stay. Though on the top floor, we felt it could be accessed with a little determination from other floors so made for an unsettling nights sleep and day trips away from our belongings. Would advise you check your door locks first as suspect other rooms suffer the same problem. Lady at reception was polite and apologised, but this didn't really help to resolve the issue.

**Also, the hot water switch only lasts for about 30 seconds before flicking off. My husband leant out of the shower with a wet arm to flick it back and received a nasty electric shock - please be careful (room 403).

Location is good - quiet road (though undergoing some construction work during the daytime) 5 minutes walk from central. Has a little garden area to enjoy too - but balcony area is better for a drink around fewer mosquitos.

Absolutely no extras - coffee, breakfast, water, bathroom products, cleaner etc. I also made a local call for 30seconds and it cost me 20B.

Overall, our stay here was fine but we felt other local properties offered far more, for the price we paid. Would advise others to book accommodation in Chiang Mai in advance of your visit, as many were fully booked when we tried on arrival. Elegant Lanna is fine, but wouldn't have been our first choice, wouldn't recommend until maintenance work is complete and probably wouldn't visit again.

Stayed here for 1 night as the funky monkey was full and they offered to book this place for us until they had a room free so we agreed and were not disappointed!! After a horrendous night train journey from bangkok we were desperate to chill out so after the tuk tuk ride from the train station (80baht per person after bartering - fair price) we were over the moon when we pulled up to the elegant lana! We checked in and the lady gave us the room key, she didnt really speak to us at all or even show us to our room but we found it anyway with no problem. The room was huge with a big double bed, tv, wardrobe, fridge and bathroom. It was really clean and even had a balcony!! For 590baht for 2 people we were impressed! The shower was lovely and had hot water not sure why other reviews say differently? Wifi access from our rooms for free which was great. Location wise,it was perfect, a 5 min walk to lots of restaurants, spas, night market, 7eleven etc.

Overall it was fab and would definitely stay again (if the funky monkey was full)

I booked an upper room (given room 402) as I like my peace & quiet (though the area is quiet at night anyway) but I should point out there is no lift. Only 3 rooms on the 4th floor, TV, fridge, aircon, lights okay, bed & sheets okay, bathroom has a separate shower recess & power point (unexpected surprise), reception friendly & helpful, only negatives were the wardrobe doors close inwards & would not stay open (frustrating) and the balcony sliding door was difficult to slide. I agree with all the positive reviews though probably could be a little bit more proactive with maintenance detail. To be fair I did not report my balcony door issue. I’d have no problem staying here again. And thanks to Funky Monkey for making my booking for me.

Room Tip: I requested an upper floor but bare in mind there is no lift. Any room would be quiet here.

We really tried to like the Elegant Lana. They were recommended by Funky Monkey and front desk greeted us with a smile. But despite a competitive rate for the location just outside the moat the room was a continuous let down:
Mildew all over the bathroom
Toilet spray broken (still continually dripped onto floor though)
Had to keep asking for toilet paper
Shower drain half blocked so kept flooding bathroom
TV had no arial connection so unless white static was your thing...
The lights were so dim in the
room. (We originally thought this was just because of the poor choice of light fixtures but there was a thick layer of dust collected on the shade that blocked the light)
The hall lights were never turned on so you had to feel your way down the corridor to leave the room at night before finding the switch
The sliding door to the balcony would not lock (luckily we were on the upper floor)
And we had to ask for them to clean the room.
Additionally, their paperwork system at reception is abysmal
and they provide no receipts so having decided to leave to stay in the nearby Kamala (review of this lovely place to be posted soon it had similar prices which included breakfast but was much more pleasant) we were tracked down there and told we had not paid for the last night because the night/morning staff hadnt marked it down properly.
Overall, of all our Thailand accommodation experiences this has been the only disappointing one.

This place is friendly and comfortable with unexpected features such as retro decor that make this place live up to it name! It is tucked away in a back street close to lesser known temples meaning it feels outside of the chaotic traffic areas but still close enough to walk everywhere. The rooms are well sized, air conditioned and comfortable. Note there is no hot water in shower but the heat of the city makes this seem appropriate.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the top level to enjoy the balcony view
