“Always a good choice, but...”
Reviewed February 11, 2013 via mobile

It's our 4th visit to Bodhi Serene and it is a very pleasure staying here. Rooms are spacious, comfortable, clean and very very nice. The staff is perfect they always care at thei guests needs. The breakfast rich, lot of choice and good quality.
BUT
The last night of our staying they had available only the junior bedroom suite and we booked this room. It is gourgeos, but it wasn't cleaned properly. We found lots of dust everywhere, specially in the kitchen corner: we're very upset about this because it seemed that anybody came in that room since a lot of time. We really didn't expect this from one of our favorite hotels in Thailand...

Enjoyed our stay in this hotel within the Old City - except for the rock hard beds, our only negative! The location was perfect for us, walking distance from the Sunday and Saturday Walking Street Markets and some restaurants, and a short tuk-tuk ride from the Night Bazaar, the river etc.

it's an older Lanna style hotel that has been well maintained. We chose a deluxe room, a little larger than the standard room, spacious and with a tub; you can see that the tile in the bathrooms is old, but the sink and tub were new, they're doing a good job maintaining the hotel. Most of the rooms overlook the nice grounds, very serene! The breakfast had a large selection, something for everyone - and definitely satisfied us.The staff was attentive, helping us get ice when we needed it, making arrangements through the concierge. A thunderstorm turned out the lights of most of the Old City (for a couple hours) one night and when we arrived back at the hotel, they accompanied us to our room, showed us where the flashlight was, let us know what was going on and made us feel comfortable (as comfortable as we could be given the situation). There's a nice second story pool, a computer room, and we had a dish of Khao Soi in the restaurant, which was one of the best we had in town!

We were there on a Wednesday morning, when they do an offering to the Monks at 7am. We participated and found it very interesting. We would definitely stay here again for a short stay; only the hard beds would keep us from staying here for a longer stay..

We made Bodhi Serene our home base for our 12 night stay in Chiang Mai, and what a great choice it was. It was, as reviewers have said before, 'an oasis in the Old City'.
We stayed in an executive suite (room 224), it was spacious and beautiful with a small balcony that overlooked the lush, well maintained courtyard garden. All the staff were delightful, very polite and pleasant to deal with.
Kudos to the chefs and waiting staff who were excellent, service was timely and the food and drinks were always delicious.
The location in the Old City is perfect for a short walk to the Saturday & Sunday Night Markets or a tuk-tuk will take you to any location for very little cost. In the surrounding streets you will discover anything you may require whilst on holiday - restaurants, cafes, mini-mart, laundry, massage & beauty spas etc.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 'home away from home' and would not hesitate to stay here again when we hopefully return to Chiang Mai.

My wife and I traveled to Chiang Mai this past summer. The location of the hotel was awesome as it was close to the market and local eateries. However it was removed enough that it wasn't noisy at night.
Our only complaint with the hotel was that the beds where a bit hard. So we talked to the main desk and they added a small foam to the bed which made it a bit better.

I have stayed many times in Chiang Mai. Within the walls of the Old City, this is one of the nicer places. Best for a couple that likes to walk a little and wants to explore this ancient city. Designed to give some isolation from the street in the midst of the generally close quartered, and potentialy noisy Old City. Rooms are medium size and have large bathroom with big circular tub for 2 and a separate glass shower. Small shuttered opening seperates bath and bed rooms (might not be good w/kids). Built around a central courtyard with all windows facing the interior. Service was good (not superb). Small pool and restaurant are raised above the ground level and at the front of the property which gives separation from street and quiet rooms. This hotel has a blank and uninteresting wall facing the street with one entrance gate (good for privacy and security). Nice street with lots of restaurants, shops, and travel/activity services close by. Walking distance to both the Saturday and Sunday walking markets (not to be missed). Thapae gate, Night market, and bar street are also quite walkable (less than 1 mile to the furthest of these). 9 out of 10. Solid 4+ stars. Tips: Check out the smaller Saturday Walking Market on Wu Lai St. (late afternoon/eve). For the adventurous Tiger Kingdom has up close experience with Tigers and Lions (very reasonable). Doi Suthep is a grand old temple with great views over the city (don't go midday if it's hot). Dried strawberries are cheap and produced locally.

Room Tip: rooms in the lower middle of either left or right side are quietest.

This has to be one of the best value hotels going around Chiang Mai. It's close to the Saturday and Sunday markets, local eateries and bars. But the best part is it's in a quiet part of the city so there is not much noise at night. The staff are ok and try their best to help, but struggle with english. The hotel is nicely appointed for the price. Rooms are large and tidy, but the bed was really hard.

We were there New Years Eve and had to pay for the mandatory dinner as in many hotels in Chiang Mai. Dinner was over priced for what you got, but the highlight for the night was everybody been given a moon lantern and letting them go in the hotel court yard. Nice way to start NY eve. Dinner finished around 10pm so it gave us plenty of time to get to the Tha Phae Gate street party.

The hotel is about 15 minute walk to the night markets. We walked there and back most nights and felt safe walking around the area.
