It's all good!

Review of Bon Ca Va
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Dec 27, 2012
Lovely, quaint, charming little inn on a quiet street less than 2 blocks from the famous Sunday Night Market and nestled between 2 wonderful Wat Buddist temples. The owner and staff could not have been lovely, hospitable and helpful....including the owner taking us to the station personally in his own car when our transportation went hay-wire!

With all the quality restaurants in Chiang Mai, we found ourselves migrating back to Bon Ca Va's lovely sidewalk cafe where even the picky eater pre-teen said they made the best Chicken Fried Rice in Thailand! Traditional Thai and Western Fusion, served artfullyand with superior personal attention. The Bacon, Lettuce & Tomatoe salad while sounding humble is actually a work of culinary art!

Feel comfortable including this charming inn in your visit to CM and you will be more than pleased - don't let the bargain price fool you - it's an affordable treasure!

We stayed here for 3 nights and had the loveliest time. Nice, quiet, helpful and dedicated staff. I can't say enough nice things about this place. Perfect walking distance for Sunday market. The food was so good we ended up eating almost every meal here. And when itcame time to leave, they packed us a lovely picnic!

I don't know what the prior post is about as there was no live music or oily men trying to sit at our table.

The Queen Victoria Inn and Bar and Restaurant and whatever else just changed hands again.

And this time, it's gone very Thai. Whereas up until two days ago, it was a nice place for a quiet beer and free WiFi and a bit of chat with the staff, now it's become a "live music" venue- beginning at about 3 in the afternoon. Gee, I hope you really enjoy horribly-sung Thai love songs all afternoon. If you've made the very ill-informed decision to stay here, it won't be quiet. It won't be peaceful and it probably won't be "friendly" because all the English-speaking staff quit. So now you can "chat" with the oily, weasely guy who hits on every women who comes the place. If I were a woman I'd not be happy trying to eat with some oily jerk inviting himself to sit down at my table and talk about taking me to the Walking Market...

jJust so, so negative. Avoid.

Room tip: The best advice I can give in terms of choosing a good room is to stay somewhere else.

We are a couple in our 60's and just spent 5 nights at the Queen Victoria Inn at the recommendation of a friend. We enjoy the ambience of small guest houses and the QV did not disappoint. It felt like home. The room, though basic, was comfortable and clean, the staff were friendly, and the food served in their bar/restaurant was excellent. Both food and room were very reasonably priced. If we ever return to Chiang Mai, we would stay here again without hesitation.

Good Location in the old City. The food, both Thai and western, was 1st class and very reasonably priced. I had read about the mozzie problem, so left the fan on. Wasn't bitten once.
I was going to make some morning coffee, until I saw the kettle had moldy water. So much for that.

Rooms very clean and facilites are good and all work well. The price is reasonable and I like the old town so location good. The problems include mosquito's, very rude staff and noisy aircon. All in all I'm torn 50/50 on this place.
