“Cleanest, friendliest and excellent price! Stay here!!”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

We stayed here for over a week in a double room with air conditioned. We are backpackers and we found the green tulip to be a perfect stay. While on budget this hostel has big spotless rooms which are cleaned daily. I love hostels but normally i find them noisy at times although this one was really quiet so i had a good sleep. Wifi was provided and signal was excellent. And last but not least!!!! Stella and Nai were the best hosts EVERRRR!! Full of energy they made our stay fun and helped us a lot with tips on stuff to do!!! Adioooossss!!

Stella Mrs. of the house receives her guests with such a warmful heart and could remember all our names in less than 5 minutes. She greeted us, and right away attended to our basics needs: put down your bags they look so heavy, sit down, are you hungry, etc. She herself prepares all the meals (at least the Thai dishes) which could compare and compete with the best Thai restaurants! The rooms are clean, neat, and in lovely lively colours. Considering that Chiang Mai is a relatively small neighbourhood the location is good. THE PRICES ARE AS THEY ARE LISTED ONLINE. FURTHERMORE IF YOU ARE BOOKING TOURS DO IT FROM THERE NOT IN BANGKOK if you want the real price ;)

Where to start...?! Cleanest place I've stayed in about a month and a half of travelling through Thailand, can't believe this is in a hostel! Great bathroom, great shower (amazing water pressure!!!), comfortable beds, very warm if the dorm is full, but yeah. Comes with the territory :)
Paid 150B for a bed in the girls and then the boys' dorm when they were fully booked, they made some room for me, amazing stay! All in all, I think I've been here about 10 nights..! Came for 2!! Today is my last day and I'm really sad to leave! Coming back from Pai and Phayao I was so happy to just crash in my Chiang Mai home :))
The staff is so nice, everything is so personal, the girls learn your name instantly and Stella never ceases to yell your name whenever she sees you :)) They book everything for you, if you want, although some things like buses and such you might want to research on your own as well, you might get a better deal.
The hostel is, indeed, about 30 min walk from the night bazar, but it is a very relaxing walk, I've done it every night and never felt unsafe or uneasy about anything. You're very close to the Sunday market as well, which is an amazing crazy busy place to go to.
There is a 10 o'clock curfew :)) so yes, if you go out and come back drunk, expect the embarrassing wait in front of the door, while Mama Nine comes from her bed to open the door for you :)) A bit un-necessary, but..kind of adds to this homey feeling, in a very strange way :))
All in all, definitely recommended, wouldn't stay anywhere else in Chiang Mai.

Green Tulip is absolutely brilliant. Beest value for money and the nicest place we stayed in over the whole 5 months travelling south east asia. When we turned up my travel partner was ill and Nine (the nicest lady in the world!) helped us to change from a dorm to a private room immediately with no hassle. She helped us the whole week we were there to organise what we wanted to do, showing us the best deals and best companies to do things with. She was like our mum while we were there (in a good way!) and made sure we were always fed and had everything we needed.Stella the chef is an absolute nutter (again, in the best way!) always smiling and making sure you're ok - and even gave us free pizza on our last night.
The rooms are super clean, the facilities and incredible, the location is perfect and the people are helpful and super friendly. Would recommend (and have recommended loads!) to anyone and everyone. Thank you!

We stayed at the Green Tulip in a double private. The hotel had recently relocated approximately 300 metres down the road into a much larger property and everything was still like new. The garish multiple colour scheme wouldn't have been our choice of colours and looked like they were using up left over paint. Pink and Green do not go well together! Having said that most of it did look good but but in a few years time will probably look hideous. We had a lovely room and a fantastic bathroom, the best that we have had in ages. Now for the bad bits the hotel is not in a great location and is a good 20 minute walk from the bar area and nearly half an hour to the night market. We walked it regularly but it is just a bit too far and there are many hotels much closer that we passed on our late night treks. The hotel takes security very seriously which is great if you are on the inside but not when you go out for the night. The shutters close at 10pm and if you come back after midnight prepare for a death stare when you ring the bell to be let in. A lovely hotel but too far from the action.

I stayed 3 nights in the Green Tulip and it was one of the best hotels I stayed in during my travels of SE Asia. The staff are really friendly and helpful and a great laugh, and I only paid £3 a night to stay in a double room with a fan (200B extra for a/c). The hotel gets great deals with local firms, so we paid the lowest out of any group on cooking classes/elephant treks/transport to Laos! Couldn't fault this place at all, it really is a ideal hotel for backpackers!!!

Room Tip: Buy a/c if your not watching your budget too much! A fan is okay though...

My girlfriend and I booked in here online after reading the good reviews on trip advisor and it didn't disappoint. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by the friendly staff and provided excellent service and advice about activities around Chiang Mai. We booked all of our tours through Stella and the team including cooking classes and flight of the gibbon at a very good price. They even helped us with the prices we should expect to pay for tuk tuks and song teaw.

The rooms were large, clean and the beds comfortable. We stayed in summer and even the room with just a fan was comfortable for us.

We booked 4 nights originally and stayed 5. Would love to stay longer :)
