“Fabulous!”
Reviewed December 5, 2012

Wow! Not much more I can say. This review is long overdue but Im finally getting to it. Thanks Stella and Nine for a wonderful trip to Chiang Mai. Stayed in Chiang Mai for 10 days and I truly felt part of the family by the end. This place is the cleanest place you will find and really great food. The rooms are basic but definitely do the trick! Nine was very good at arranging tours...she gives you a great rate! Stella is a hoot...many great laughs from her. Would most definitely go back here again!!!

PS- Mike and Kaitlyn say thanks for the wonderful plane treats you sent us home with! The security guard at the airport got a good laugh out of the lipstick kiss that you placed on the outside of the package....I think she thought it was from a secret lover or something haha!

We had a great stay at The Green Tulip. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the accommodation is really good value for money. We stayed in a double room and it was like staying in a hotel rather than a hostel. The room was really nice and clean and the bathroom was great, probably the best bathroom I had in Thailand! The food was also really tasty and good portion size. We would definitely recommend the day trek/waterfall/elephant ride/whitewater rafting trip as we really enjoyed this and was excellent value.

Thank you for an amazing stay, wish we could have stayed longer!

We were very wary booking hostels in Thailand because to be honest be had no idea what to expect. After a lot of research we decided on Green Tulip and I am so glad we did.

For the price of peanuts we were given a beautiful room with clean linen and a fan. This place is exceptionally clean and relaxing, the bar/restaurant is open and offers fairly good prices. The two owners are so inviting and kind. They really try to get to know you and actually look sad when you leave... You can book all of your tours here (with competitive rates - we did our research) and operators will come by and pick you up at the door.

The area is safe and only a 10 minute ride from the train station. Definitely recommended!!

Pro's -
Great bacon. Free PC's for internet. Not a bad location, the roads opposite have very nice shops. Some very inexpensive local Thai restaurants. The chef Jude, is lovely, great customer service from her, she is friendly and fun with a good sense of humor. The rooms are clean. Simple decoration, tiled, good color scheme, nice sheets on the bed, free from mosquitoes.

Con's -
Really cheap bread for toast and with the breakfast - Yuk. The free Wifi is turned off at 10pm, if you want to send an email late forget it. When i asked if it was turned off I was told it was just a bad signal, which i later turned out was a lie. It was in fact turned off. The location of the dining area next to the road was not nice, noise from the road, fumes and dirt. Its fine if you like the taste of petrol and desiel with your food. The old lady behind the reception desk is a horrible rude and blunt lady. She rarely smiled and I think the words please and thank you are not in her vocabulary. She was pushy and aggressively pursued us to buy tours from her. Some people would find it hard to say no to her sales pitch. I heard one guest say to her that he couldnt afford to buy anymore tours from her because she had already made him buys lots. I got an uneasy feeling that it was not safe and secure. There is no way to keep the maids out, I was not happy that a maid entered our room on the day we moved in and closed our windows which was not required, we had only arrived a few hours before and popped out for some food. The large TV in the communal was never on and always covered. Constantly subjected to the managements appaulling taste in music.

Personally I would never stay there again. I was told many times by the management that they had bought a new hotel and that this hotels location was to close soon. The complaints come from the staff attitude that they werent going to be there very long.

I dont know what the new hotel is like but my experience with the lady from reception was not a good one.

Nice place to stay, they recently moved 300 meters furter south on Samlan Road.
So everything is brand new. Rooms are very clean, they serve good food/breakfast at reasonable prices. Wifi is really fast. Laundry is good aswell.
I was travelling with two friends and they only had rooms left with two beds, so they put up an extra foldable bed for half the price. (this one had a rockhard matress though).
The only negative side is the pressure of booking tours/trips with them. They constantly ask what you want to do. But in a friendly way kind of. I guess they get much comission on the tours. Very friendly and hard working staff. But is does not have that 'home feeling' for me.
Perfect place for couples I guess though.

We stayed here for 5 nights while in Chiang Mai and had a good experience. Green Tulip House was recommended to us by a friend, and it did not disappoint. The hotel is painted in cheerful colors, and the rooms were immaculate. They are basic, but I am not someone who needs a fancy room - who wants to spend lots of time in their hotel room?? The bed was comfy, the shower delightful, and it was pleasantly quiet in the evening. GTH is a few minutes walk to the main drag, and it was easy to get around, see the city, and enjoy nights out. Stella and the rest of the staff were super helpful, helping us book transportation, a tour, and a spa visit. They greeted almost everyone in the morning for breakfast, and whenever we wandered in and out. For the price, this is an excellent place to stay.
