“Lovely Hotel, great service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2011

We stayed at the Ratilanna when my mom came to visit us in Thailand. We had a lovely stay in Chaing Mai and the hotel was perfect for us ( a young couple with a baby and grandma) and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a very nice hotel that is out of the hustle and bustle of Chaing Mai. Hotel is close enough and has free transport to the night bazaar, but is in a quiet part of Chaing Mai. Restaurant was good and pool was fantastic and right along the river. Don't miss Doi Suithep temple!

We have traveled to many places and stayed in many hotels, but the Ratilanna stands out as one of the most beautiful ever. We were not surprised to hear that the hotel's owner once owned a furniture factory, for the woods used in the hotel are rich. One almost feels they are in a sanctuary or a museum. Each doorway to the individual rooms has a carving or small statute outside . The feeling is regal both Inside and out. Thedecor is worthy of a king. The rooms are exceedingly large and there are many thoughtful touches such as carefully packaged chocolate chip cookies arriving at bedtime. The bathroom hosts both a waterfall and an HD television and towels are replaced twice daily. The swimming pool is large and beautiful as is the area that surrounds it. The eating areas are likewise excellent. Having breakfast outside by the river is a treat- for the incredible view and tasy food. The Brazilian style restaurant downstairs is excellent and well-valued. Beds also are huge and comfortable. Decor is eloquent..We did not want to leave this hotel and the 4 days we spent here were heavenly. Location is very good also.

Rati Lanna. When I came in reception wasn't so receptive and I wasn't so happy...I carried my own luggage and opened the door myself..then searched for reception desk. I found out later they had big EU conference so many of their staff were busy... so I understood the situation. Once I made it to reception--staff very friendly and porter came to help me. Once I got in the room---all my anger was gone. The room was so special and beautiful. Patio with a special couch, stereo with chill out CD, massive bathtub with big screen TV and water fountain to provide soothing sounds, sparklessly clean, remote lights beside bed, beautiful view of river. The room had thai charm, modern elegance and I didn't want to leave it. Each night they provided some special homemade goodnight cookies and i really looked forward to these each night before bed. Such a simple yet special treat. The food menu was great (they had a thai set meal which was great taste and value, the breakfast was average yet the coffee by the river and the attentive smiling staff made up for bland breakfast selection. Tuk Tuk in and out to get to the center is a little bit annoying.. TIP: .I recommend you keep Tuk Tuk all day as there are so many places called "Lanna" that the Tuk Tuks have trouble trying to find out where you want to go. To save money---You can also buy cheap beer and water instead of expensive minibar beer... next door...small shop--help the locals make money!! Gym looked great...and Pool was large but a little bit dirty (hard to maintain something that large)

Room Tip: Be friendly to the receptionists

I would rate this hostel 5 stars. It is a little bit away from the night market but i think that only makes it better as you tend to relax at your hotel a little more and it was cheap and easy to get a tuktuk to town only cost $2.50 aus to town if that. Was a quite hotel and they opened the pool bar up for us every night even if we were the only ones in the pool, spa is AMAZING and the room is unlike any hotel i have stayed at, big bed, lounge area, outside swing on balcany and a big spa/bath with a plazma. and chaing mai is a lovely place to visit it is a MUST DO

I'm sure the negative reviews are isolated incidents. The staff took good care of us from the minute we arrived until several hours after we checked out (they held our baggage while we used the pool, dried and folded our swim suits and let us use the gym while we waited for our
flight).
We got a good discount from the average rate plus they upgraded us. Not everything was perfect but any minor issue that arose was quickly resumed.
The concierge set us up with a friendly, English-speaking taxi/guide that was great. It's much better and
Cheaper than New York. 10 minutes from the airport and close to most of the attractions.

My husband and I stayed there on the first leg of our Honeymoon. From the moment they picked us up at the airport the service was first class. The hotel was amazing! Beautiful and clean and a nice size. Not too big and had a boutique feel. Our room was on the top floor and had a river view. Highly recommend paying extra for that, as it was so beautiful looking out over the pool and the river every morning.

The grounds, pool were incredible. peaceful. If there is one comment is that they need a few more lounge chairs in the sun. That said, we didn't lack for one any time we went to the pool. It is not overly busy as most people explore during the day. We did as well, but a couple of times we spent a few hours there in the afternoon.

the location is great! A little bit outside of the main area, but they have a free shuttle into the markets and only 80 Baht to get back in a Tuk Tuk, so totally fine and we liked staying out of the hectic city. Our favorite place to eat was Ping Ping at the night market. Not fancy, but the noodles were amazing and cheap! Great seafood too.

The staff were incredible and really treated us in a 5 star way. We were there for Thai New Year and the water festival. We had been in town during the first day and then came back to the hotel and had a ball with the staff that day. It was a highlight of the whole honeymoon. Everyone was friendly, great music and we just had a ball. Also, any questions we had during our stay were answered and with a smile.

The breakfast was incredible! Every day something different and the selection was perfect!

It was a 5 start property and amazing value. We can't wait to go back. There may be other hotels in Chaing Mai that are 5 star, but we would come back to this one without a doubt.

Room Tip: Request a river view on the top floor

I cannot fault our hotel in which we stayed in Chiang Mai. A luxurious hotel which also had attentive staff and excellent restaurants and rooms. A special with a free upgrade meant a room unlike any that I have stayed at before (separate sitting and dining area, king size bed and luxury bathroom). It was a little out of the centre of town but this can be seen as a positive.
