We stayed here as part of a tour with G Adventures. On the 1st night, we were given a room on the 2nd floor. It was OK but it could of done with a little bit extra cleaning in some parts, ie. the bathroom, and the floors, but the beds were clean and it was manageable. On the plus side, it was in a great location, and just a 2 min walk to the restaurants, bars, and old town gate. After our trip, and for our 2nd stay in Mandala House, we were given a room on the 4th floor which was amazing! It was so much bigger, had a lovely big bathroom with a bath, a balcony, and overall felt much brighter and nicer. I would recommend this hotel if you are after somewhere cheap, good location, and not spending too much time in your room.

We stayed at Mandala House for 2 nights in January 2013. We had a room downstairs, which was clearly unfinished, there were cables all over the floor in the corridor (which you could have easily tripped over) two of our room and the walls weren't painted. The shower was freezing cold, and the bathroom had glass sides all around so you could see in!
The room was spacious, clean and the beds were comfy.
I cannot comment on value as we stayed at the hotel as part of a pre paid tour.
The location was close to the night bazaar and old city, however it is located along little side streets and it was quite hard to find as there are only a few small signs here and there!
They do have a swimming pool, which was quite nice.
In terms of service, we thought it was pretty terrible. The staff taking our breakfast orders had their iPod headphones in and were quite rude and not helpful at all when we asked them simple questions.
We left our bags in the "safe deposit room" for a few hours before we were allowed to check in. When we arrived back to collect our bags, all the cleaning staff were sat all over them having their lunch break. When we walked in, they all scattered and tried to look busy. We then noticed that one of our bags had been tampered with. Thankfully our bags were locked so nothing was taken but it was clear that they had tried to get into the bag.
We stayed at other guesthouses in Chiang Mai which were much nicer.

Check in was fast and efficient, given room 2105 I was amazed at its size, fridge, shower bath, Flat screen tv, lot of light, very clean and serviced well daily. breakfast included in rate was ample. small garden swimming pool over the road. all in all above a budget rating guest house.2 computer stations for those without gadgets, free wi fi
The hotel is situated down a well lit lane some 2 minutes walk from the main tourist areas, easy access to everything and good advice from the staff on booking all adventures.
The staff are very good and friendly however could far improve matters with some extra English lessons in the off season. Very happy with my stay here.and always a good nights sleep.

Room tip: 2105 ground floor, new, door to rear to smoke outside, end of corridor so no others passing to disturb your sleep

we were very happy to chose the mandala house, because the rooms were very nice and extraordinary furnished, but not so big. the bathroom was also small but nice with hot water and extraordinary toilet. everything was very clean and in a good european standard. our room had aircondition and in the roomrate a breakfast from the menu card was included, which was in a good average. the small half openair restaurant was also furnished very well and on the side there was a big artficial waterfall, which spended fresh cool air the whole day. the staff was very freindly and helpful in any case and they gave us some golden tipps to explore the town. at night the hotel is quiet and we felt every everytime in a good sleep. very close to the inner circle of the old town and all the temples the mandala house made a perfect cultural more days stay in chiang mai for us and we can recomment it very warm.
