What I liked most about this guest house is the location. It's in a really busy little soi with lots going on, and is very central for everywhere in CM. Despite that, the rooms are very quiet and peaceful.
My room was spacious and clean, if a bit shabby - but at this price nothing to complain about. I really liked that the room had 2 doors - one into the room from a wide walkway, and one that led to a little caged in balcony. The balcony isn't suitable to sit out on (there is a table & chairs out on the walkway) but it does let in lots of light and air to the room. Reception on the TV was poor but I didn't ask anyone to look at it as I can do without TV on holiday. The fridge was huge.
There is a pleasant communal area, but the restaurant was closed for most of my stay. Whilst the staff are obliging when approached, they are fairly low-key.
I would say that if you are looking for typical Thai hospitality, CM Blue House may not be for you. This GH is a little bit of France in the middle of CM. Not a complaint - just a comment.

I chose CM Bluehouse based on Tripadvisor and lonely planet recommendations but was thoroughly disappointed. The mattress was severely worn out and thin. I would have slept better with a mat on the floor. There was no running water from 9pm until I checked out at 8:30am the following day after originally intending on staying for several days. The tiny crappy tv would work for about 3 minutes before needing to tap it to work again. The location was handy to easily walk around the city but the security was terrible. Someone tried to get into my room while I was sleeping which scared the crap out of me for the rest of the night. When I told the staff about what happened, he responded with: "not my problem. It wasn't me so it's not my fault". There are far better (and cheaper) options within the old city walls....

Great location with great value for money. The boss is very friendly and will help you organise whatever you want. The breakfast is cooked at request and is very good.
Bed are not the best but very good for this price level.

We went to CM Bluehouse based on recommendation from Lonely Planet Guidebook. The price seemed pretty good. The rooms were very basic. The fan wasn't working in our room and the owner came by to look at it. He seemed to content not doing anything about it and when we pressed him to fix it, he made it sound like that wasn't acceptable given the cheap price we were paying. He finally relented and brought in a fan from the office. I slept on a 3rd mattress on the floor while my parents had the standard bed. It was probably the worst mattress I've ever slept on, with metal springs poking me all night. There are many other guesthouses in this area of Chaing Mae with as good or better prices and nicer accommodations. We ended up moving to a different hotel down the street and were glad we did.

Currently halfway through a two week holiday with my boyfriend. We are both mid-late twenties and have been staying in 1000 baht per night guest houses so far. Wanting to save a bit more money, we traipsed around old town for a few hours looking in about other houses which are also 500 bhat.

CM Blue stands out with its really chilled boho-chic communal area. It even has an honesty kitchen were you help yourself and jot down what you've had to drink. The staff have all been very welcoming and helpful- we only got here this morning and they helped us book a river cruise and bike tour already.

The rooms are very basic and yes i turned my nose up at the mismatched furniture and decor. However, if you are looking for a place to rest at the end of a hard days fun in Chiang Mai then this is a great value option.

The other guests seem to share the friendly and chilled ethos so you might even make some friends too.
