Smile House Guest House

We stayed a few days in the Smile House. The location is good (on the east side of the old city, quite close to Tha Pae), the guest house has a friendly and relaxed staff, a nice lobby and a nice swimming pool. The neighbours offer food, bicycles for rent and a laundry service.

The rooms were a bit worn out: mattresses and sheets quite old, bathroom very basic. We had four cockroaches in our room (room 6); they could probably enter the room via a hole in the wall in the bath room. We were given another room (room 9), which was better.

So our rating is "Good", between "Average" and "Very Good", which Tripadvisor does not offer.
Would we go again to the Smile House? Yes, certainly, but not room 6.

Room Tip: Not room 6!

My family and I first stayed in Smile Guesthouse in 2005, when our children were 9. We met Eed and PJ (incorrect spelling) and their daughter (who is our children's age). They instantly made our family feel welcome. We, and another friend that we met there, return every 2 years since and we are going back January 2013. The Smile is a place for families and everyone and when you stay there you become part of their family. Can't wait to get back there!

Room Tip: Quiet location but close to everything!

We went as backpackers in Chaing mai,we compared almost 5 to 8 hotels/guest houses and we found this place perfect for our budget and rooms were clean. we paid 400 Bhats per night in April . there was a small spool but never used it. staff was friendly. Rooms are very good for the price paid. air condition, hot water and service was nice. the owners were very friendly.

i had best experience here and i enjoyed the new year in chian Mai.

Room Tip: take rooms near pool area, it looks more safe.

In a nice quiet street, smile house has all the comforts needed for a great stay in Chiangmai. Staff were not overly friendly but did there job and were helpful. I stayed in the cheaper rooms upstairs and they are by far the best. Shared bathrooms were spotless and you only share with one other room!! Room was clean, nicely decorated and I loved the open windows letting a nice breeze in :) nice, clean pool as well !! happy Custermer thanks.

I stayed her for about 3 nights with my brother and sister. My sister and I shared a double room on the top floor and my brother had his own room on the 2nd floor. Our beds were all Rock hard! Like super hard even for Thailand standards! Rooms were pretty clean. Would have saved even more money by staying in a shared bathroom as our bathrooms were not so nice compared to the communal ones.

Great location, pretty sundeck. Pool was disgusting, broken filter? It was green and slimy and got worse every day we were there.

Great location. Everything is close by! Internet was pretty bad, very spotty and only works in the main sitting area NOT in your room.

I have stayed here many times and am embarrassed by the fact that I have 4 rooms booked up for friends coming up over Songkran. I just arrived back yesterday and it is actually in its sadest state yet. When I came over a year ago the pool was "cleaner" and the jacuzzi at least still worked(not slime green and mosquito infested). Anyways lets just say the owner has quite the reputation with "ex" staff of being completely cheap and so far off base of what is actually needed to run a guesthouse and maintain a good reputation. Doesn't understand the concept that you actually need to spend money to make money. I can't say how many times I have witnessed people complaining about the pool(myself includedl, really feel for the staff because it gets passed onto deaf ears. The pool cleaner was fired over a year ago and now the maintenance man cleans the pool. Bless him for trying but its just not working. Lets just say its the last time I bring anyone back to this place until some money actually gets spent on fixing it up. The thing that is great though is the whole staff has always been nothing but wonderful which is hard because they deal with so many complaints that could be easily fixed!!!

When We First Arrived We Were Really Pleased With Our Room, It Was Large, Bright New Looking. We Opted For The Aircon Room With Shared Bathroom. Bathrooms All Needed Updating Really And All Had Lots Of Mosquitos Flying Around. Bedroom Was Fine Until A Cockroach Landed On My Girlfriends Head While She Slept Forcing Us To Move Rooms At 4am. We Then Decided The Next Day To Chill By The Pool..Which Had Rats Taking Food To And From The Bin On The Side To Their Nest Under The Decking. Internet In Rooms Was Useless And air Con Wasn't Brilliant.

Room Tip: Fans Are Probably More Use Than The Aircon Rooms.
