I've stayed here many times. The location is great, and the rooms clean and cheap (in October 2011 around 12 UK pounds a night). Wi-fi is free, and the host amicable. Nearby are many good places to eat and drink, and if you feel gregarious, a place to chat with other guests.

Room Tip: Get one of the larger rooms if you can.

Spent 6nights at Tri Gong (pd 600bht pn) - It was wonderful in every way. Lovely hosts, clean comfy room, comfy bed, lots of fabulous HOT water, good internet connection, good cable tv (not that's important to us, but for others, maybe), the A/c works perfectly and it has a fridge and phone in the room. It's a family run guesthouse and the service is spot on.

Located in a small but busy street with everything at your fingertips - a great bar down the road which we highly recommend - Thai 1 On Bar and Grill - yummy food and good service plus helpful owner (Tim) who was so wonderfully helpful when I became ill and needed to go to hospital.

But back to Tri Gong - it was perfect for our time in Chaing Mai and we will definately be going back when we return to CM. As others have said, Tri Gong offers free coffee/tea, water and internet. Only down side (and it's not that big a problem) is that there's no free breaky like other guesthouses, but then it's so close to fantastic cafes and resturants that it doesn't matter.

We happily recommend this lovely little guesthouse.

The first day we stay at a very cheap room, too cheap. Because of this, we search in the oldcity a new room for the next days in chiang mai. We read about tri ging residence in the lonely planet. Our room was clean, beautiful furnished, with aircondition, fresh towel and fresh water every day, also with w-lan, internet and coffee for free. The owner is very nice and helpful. In the neighbourhood you could washing laundry and eat breakfast. We enjoy our days in the tri gong residence. The price is cheap for this service. If we come the next time to chiang mai we will check in again.

I just loved the Tri Gong Residence! It's like a 4 stars hotels but it feels like home. New and clean rooms, quite environment, very nice staff, warm common living room with plenty of DVDs, free coffee, fee water bottles etc etc... and for a very reasonable price!

Thank you! :)

Coming to Trigong Residence is like coming back home, have stayed here every time I have been to Chiang Mai over the past years. My review is based upon my experience this week and also comparing it with the past stays over years.

ROOMS
are better now! sparkling clean bedsheets, comfortable pillow and cushion, teakwood furniture (traditional Thai Lanna style), fridge, TV, work table, relaxing chair, personal balcony in 2nd floor, cupboard, intercom, split unit airconditioning, running hot water in bathroom, spotless linen, toileteries, free supply of bottled drinking water in the fridge, and a lot more! what else can one ask for?

SAFETY
This is the most special part of Trigong Residence because Mr Adam's family (owner) take personal care 24 hours round the clock. They too live there within the campus and you can imagine every little detail of care and attention is personalized and makes you feel at home. There is no need to worry for single women travellers or anyone. Every guest has a magnetic coded key so that he or she can enter or go out whenever so wishes -

COURTYARD
Absolutely lovely courtyard - better tables and layout now where you will really feel creative if not too hot. Very nice place to read a book, work on computer or chat with friends.

FREE WIFI
entire campus has free WiFi internet and very good speed trust me. Those who don't have their own computers, can use the computers (I think 2 machines) in the lobby.

LOBBY
The lobby area or reception is also very tastefully done in Lanna style. Free coffee/tea or hot chocolate is there for guests and a big plasma TV too! great library of some books as welll

LOCATION
Of course location of Trigong Residence is very good - within the OLD CITY 'Moat' area and surrounded by restaurants-bars, and other places such as oldest monastery in Chiang Mai etc... all is walking distance. If you wish to go to Malls etc then red car (Songthaew) is available all the time at hardly 15-20 bahts....

Strongly recommended....

Room Tip: all rooms are good as Trigong Residence and quiet as Trigong is at least 20-30 metres inside Soi 1 f...

Tri Gong's owner is the most gracious and helpful hotel owner I've ever met. My first stay was in Nov/Dec . '09. In my return trip to Thailand, I stayed here a couple of nights in August and now Sept. 2011. He speaks perfect English.

The location is good--easy to reach a wonderful produce market a few blocks away, only two blocks from THE BLUE DIAMOND, a wonderful, inexpensive restaurant with vegan, organic and gluten-free food, 15 minute walk from North Gate Jazz Club.

Rooms are very clean and well maintained===AC and TV always work. Welcoming lobby with two FREE computers for guests and 24-hour complimentary tea and instant coffee. Unlimited free bottled water in the refrigerator in each room. Second floor rooms have small balconies---great for drying clothing quickly.

Located on quiet street about 100 meters from major street and canal.

The place has a really good feel to it, I think due to the chilled out owner, Mr Adam. Beds were very comfortable and chilled water is provided. There is also 2 free internet computers in the reception , a kitchen, cable TV and a fridge in the room. The residence is well situated in Chang Mai, lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. A great place for healthy breakfast is the Blue Diamond, which Mr Adam recommended to us. Would definitely stay here again.
