“Very basic, but okay.”
Reviewed January 23, 2012

I stayed here in total for 4 nights.

I would stay here again, as Chiang Mai is an amazing place. But the hotel was very basic. The pool was nice, but the pool staff were very rude and even questioned whether I was actually a guest. The air conditioning was very loud, but at least there was some!

Nothing special, but okay for a few nights as long as you're not looking for somewhere too wonderful.

Stayed at this hotel a few nights as part of a GAdventures tour. The hotel is very old, and the signs of age are apparent. The lobby had a lot of character with old, carved wood furniture for sale. Don't touch the large gorilla, one of our cotravellers picked up the arm and a nest of mosquitoes came out. The rooms we stayed in were spacious and clean. The bathrooms were small, and not very clean. Water leaked from pipe going to the toilet when flushing. We had to turn on the hot water in the sink faucet in order for the hot water in the shower to come on. The room we were given at first was noisy with constant road traffic. We got a quiet room after we asked to switch.

The hotel is in a good location, about a 15 minute walk to the moat/wall surrounding Chiang Mai city center, and about a 10 minute walk to the main night market.

The breakfast is an average buffet with Thai fried rice/noodles, fruit, toast, pancakes, and french toast.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main road.

This Hotel has been going since the Vietnam war. Not much has been updated since then. The rooms are large and airy. The swimming pool is the star of the complex but the pool surrounding are in need of an update. A good cleaning of the pool furniture would help.
There are lots of good restaurants and bars nearby.

Room Tip: The higher floors are the better for view and less noise.

We were very disappointed with this hotel, the location was not that good, close to few things but not walking distance. We were happy to find that our triple room had a double bed and two single beds, the room is very spacious, but everything is very old. The room was dark, and bathroom not so clean. The little fridge was dripping and the bed matresses were old, the kind and molds around you, not good sleeping. It seems it had been raining for few days so the hotel also did not have hot water, or their system was broken or they rely only on solar heater. Breakfast was very simple. The swimming pool looked nice and it was clean but we did not use it since it was raining. We had to stay in the room a lot and it was not so nice, no proper windows (those you can open). Internet was the best thing, very fast and wi-fi. If we had to stay another night I would move.

stayed here for 4 nights whilst on a gap tour. Was meant to give trekking but decided not to, and the hotel made it very easy for us to stay in same room. Cost 1000 baht a night (about 20 pound).
The rooms are massive. Beds nice and soft. Bathrooms could do with a clean or paint job but decent shower. Plenty of storage, a tv with lots of channels (including english channels). Air con, but unfortunately it turns off when you leave the room. My only criticism.

Hotel staff are very nice, and breakfast is included. Not far from old town chaing mai, tescos garage around the corner and a bank. Tuk tuks are outside hotel (no taxis in chaing mai).

Yes. Like an old shirt with the elbows worn, a button missing and perhaps some paint stains. It's comfortable and you are reluctant to discard it.

The staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful. Breakfasts are good and the hotel's location is fine - just outside the central moated city of Chiang Mai - a ten minute walk away. It is also within easy walking distance of the city's famous night markets.

My first room was always very warm in spite of the ancient air-conditioning unit. I worked out that this was because its outer concrete wall absorbed hot sunlight throughout the day. As it happened I had to move rooms as a dreadful water leak developed from the ceiling near the room's entrance door. The replacement room was much cooler and the aircon was more modern.

The hotel is a bit of a mishmash and could do with having significant funds spent on renovation. A good deep clean would also help. However, this isn't a bland corporate hotel. The place has got character as well as bird droppings and concrete mould and occasional used plates sitting in the corridor. It has a fairly large salt-water swimming pool but I was very disappointed to discover that guests are not allowed to use it until ten in the morning. I had picked the hotel mainly because it had a swimming pool and was looking forward to early morning swims.

You can book various trips at reception - to hilltribe villages, trekking expeditions, Thai cookery courses etc.. One of the receptionists took me and another guest to nearby Tiger Kingdom on his morning off. There a fellow guest and I entered tigers' cages and stroked some of these noble predatory creatures.

I was visiting Chiang Mai at Songkran time - surely the best time to go. The parades and waterplay frenzy were fantastic.

Room Tip: Don't expect corporate predictability.
