Excellent hotel. A real oasis in Chiang Mai. Service is great, rooms are luxurious, spacious and authentic, bathrooms are massive and impeccably clean. Highly recommended

I would have to agree with some of sloanbj's comments about the hotel although I thought the staff spoke english well enough to communicate. In the pictures it looks like a "grand" hotel but then you have to remember that they call it "baby grand" and rightly so. It had an old colonial style to the architecture which gave the hotel character and an unique appeal. We travelled with a toddler and a nanny and booked the family suite. Little did we know that the bathroom was attached to one of the rooms so that meant the nanny had to walk through our bedroom to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Other than that the rooms were spacious, with lovely balconies off each room and had everything you needed.
The hotel is built on a very small piece of land with very little room for our active toddler to play around in. The pool was ok but the water was ice cold despite the perfect weather.

Staff were very good and professional and tried hard to keep our son entertained.

Just a few pointers :
- Do not get the hotel airport transfer. It is a rip off. Get a taxi from the airport which are probably better than most taxi's in other major cities across the world. If you're not sure about doing that then you can try calling [-] for a metered taxi. I can't guarantee that whoever picks up the phone on the other end will speak good english but perhaps you can book one to pick you up the airport. It only cost a fraction of the price of the hotel transfer. We used this tour service to drive us around and also to take us to the airport. They had a very recent four wheel drive for about 150-200THB instead of the THB 750/way.
- Food at the hotel is very expensive and not worth the money. You're better off asking the tuk tuk to take you to where the popular restaurants are (such as the ones by the river near the art galleries).

All in all the hotel is ok for what it is, just a place to sleep and shower but not really a place to hang out or make use of their facilities. We saw more retired couples staying at the hotel and I think that may be their clientele base, not really one for young couples or young children.

We had our second trip in the last two years to Thailand, a country so special that every time we must go back to Europe we leave with great effort...Chiang Mai,the rose of the north, is one of our favorite destinations....if you ask randomly someone about this city they will always talk nicely about it...which is indeed something that makes you curios...
Choosing Puripunn again this year was something we did with great expectations and
joy....it felt like a hotel that had everything and still being very easy to build a personal
relationship with...the inspired Lanna-Style, the original decorations, the very attentive staff, a great New Years Eve Performance with local traditional dancers and musicians,a great cuisine, the neighboring Ping-River(you must take a barge-cruise), the different Street Markets and Bazars that surround the area( attention antique shoppers!!), all that mixture makes you never wanna leave....

This hotel is truly an oasis in a very busy, frenetic city. Entering from a busy street, a smaller throughfare goes about 2 winding blocks through an authentic traditional Thai neighborhood. Upon entering, there is a gate and a large open patio area with a garden, outdoor dining area under a veranda. On the other side is a entryway into the reception area. You are greeted by the receptionist and staff, asked to sit down and served tea or water. The rooms are emaculate, beds extremely comfortable, air conditioning excellent and the bathroom has a beautifully raised sink with a wonderful design. There is a balcony that overlooks the pool that I have spent much time on reading. The pool is exotic with a pagoda in the middle, salted water and cool but refreshing. It was used by several people each day. Breakfast was included and you have a choice of omlets or eggs anyway you choose, fresh fruit, small pastries, juices and wonderful coffee. We did not eat in the restaurant for other meals but rarely do when in a city with a diversity of wonderful restaurants like Chiang Mai, but we heard the restaurant is very good. Now the best for last...the staff. They bent over backwards, looked out for out best interests and made excellent recommendations and booked numerous day trips. I wonder whether they worried about us when we were gone. Very dedicated staff most of whom were hired when the hotel opened several years ago who are are seen as 'family'by the owner who would occassionally come by and talk with tourists. The location is good, about a 10 minute walk to the night bazaar, a longer walk to the old city. They have tuk tuks leaving every other hour from the hotel which are free but you must take your own back (about 60-80b which is $2US). You can also get a taxi from the hotel as well as dinner reservations by asking the front desk. If you want to take a less expensive tuk tuk they are a 3-4 minute walk away. This hotel has really made our trip wonderful. It is such a good alternative from the expensive resorts and big box hotels The rates are reasonable and in my opinion is an excellent value. It says alot about a hotel that you are sad to leave after 10 days. Don't spend a lot of time deciding where to stay because this is the place.

We stayed at the Puripunn for 5 nights. From the start till the end, we were treated so wonderfully by the most kind and thoughtful staff. My wife had a cold due to stress. She was offered hot ginger tea and honey water to help her. The owner came to welcome us in person and spent time sharing very helpful information about where to go for visits in Chiang Mai. He and all the staff exemplify the most gracious Thai hospitality.
The hotel ground is lovely with lots of trees with scented flowers. The garden is well kept. The hotel buildings remind us of a lovely and gorgeous Thai Mansion. The room we stayed was quiet, spacious, well appointed with all comfortable amenities, with a huge and lovely bathroom area, and a serene sitting area outside with sofas for reading and relaxing facing the pool and garden. We had breakfast daily at the hotel, and lunch and dinner at the hotel many times throughout our stay. Each meal was delicious and served promptly by attentive and gentle staff who greet us so kindly and attended to us whenever we needed service yet respected our privacy and quiet dining time. The hotel provides tuk tuk car service to nearby night bizzare and Sunday Night Market which by tuk tuk only takes 5 minutes. One of the high lights of our visit was walking around the neighborhood of the hotel which is a historical neighorhood with friendly neighbors and so close to the Ping River preservation houses now turned exquisite art galleries, tasteful shops with high quality arts, home decor items, Thai silk clothing, not your run of the mill junk stuff at all. The famous restaurants are also along the river which only take 5 minutes to walk to from the hotel. But the food at the hotel is so good and tasty we only ate out twice during our entire stay. The Puripunn staff really made us feel so welcome that we felt it was our home away from home during our 5 day stay there. The whole place is so cozy, intimate, serene. We walked around Chiang Mai downtown (Night Bazzar area) with all the hassale bussle going on, we realized we made the right choice staying at the Puripunn because it is so quiet and relaxing, yet so close and convenient to all the sites. We had been to Thailand a number of times. (We stayed at Pennisula Bangkok and the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok before.) Although these hotels are no doubt very nice, we love Chiang Mai much more than busy Bangkok. And we rate our stay at the Puripunn our most pleasant hotel experience among all our Thailand trips. I like to thank the owner and all the staff at Puripunn for making our stay truly so memorable. If people look for a quiet, lovely, gracious, authentic Thai hotel experience, I most highly recommend Puripunn. We will come back here for sure next time we visit Chiang Mai!! An oasis in the middle of the hustle-bussle that is Chiang Mai. Attentive and charming staff, complemented by good food particularly the breakfast. And very comfortable quiet rooms tastefully furnished. The next time we visit this part of Thailand, we will opt to stay at the Puripunn without any hesitation

Personal touches make Puripunn Hotel our first choice among the hotels we've visited in Thailand.
The team really prove that they enjoy hosting each and every guest. It's our second visit to Puripunn and only by this fact we are showing our consideration to the hotel and especially to the staff.
In fact we felt so charmed that even if we booked 4 nights, we decided to extend our stay with another 2 nights and believe me we (and especially our children!) felt so bad leaving this perfect place! The hotel is extremely well-kept and clean, and the outdoor area is amazing.
We appreciated also the hotel location which is a short and pleasant walk to the city's center however a really quiet experience due to its typical traditional neighborhood.
The owners are just naturally charming. It feels like visiting your best friends.
