I stayed at Raming Lodge for 4 nights in January 2014. Once I made the reservation I e-mailed the hotel to request an airport pickup. They promptly replied with confirmation and informed me of the 150 THB charge. On arrival there was a person to meet me in baggage claim and took me to the hotel. Check in was quick and I was taken to my room. The room was clean, of nice size, the bed was huge and comfortable. The room had a/c, shower with hot water, frig, safe and t.v.

Complimentary breakfast was offered each morning and had a decent selection. The hotel has computers for guest to use in the lobby and offered Wi-Fi. I could not get the Wi-Fi to connect in my room and could barley connect to it in the lobby. The hotel has a swimming pool however I did not use it. In the lobby there is a tour desk to book activities, tours or motorbikes rentals. The person working the desk was very helpful and patient. I rented a motorbike for 250 THB per day and there is secure parking at the hotel. If you are interested in seeing elephants like at Patara elephant farm, you need to make your reservation at least two months in advance. E mail Patara directly as they have limited space for visitors each day. The hotel is within walking distance to the night bazarr and Sunday market. There are tons of bars just outside of the hotel on Loi Kroh road.

Overall I enjoyed my stay at Raming Lodge. The rooms were of decent size and clean. The staff was nice and the activity desk person was very helpful. I was disappointed about the hotels Wi-Fi. If I came back to Chiang Mai I would not hesitate to stay at Raming Lodge.

Room Tip: My room was in the rear of the hotel and was very quiet.

We arrived in the low season (end of October) and stayed at this hotel for 9 days. We had booked a Superior room and stayed at the second floor in the corner. Big size room with a huge bed, furniture a bit dated and dark (only a small window), bathroom also nice and spacious but again dated and there was a bit of an odd smell when we arrived. Welcoming, service and breakfast was nothing special but it was ok. 1st of November high season started and was clearly vissible: many guests checked in during the first week of November. All of a sudden staff members were dressed in traditional uniforms, breakfast had been extended and improved, guests were welcomed with a drink and bell boys helped them with their luggage, etc.

Plus: swimmingpool, small with unfortunatelly only 8 sunbeds and NO staff, but great if you are early and for a cool-down moment. The location is also a big plus: left is the direction to the night bazaar (15 minutes) and right is the direction to the Tapei Gate & Sunday Market (10 minutes). Walk a bit further and you'll see the Warrarot market (25 minutes walk).

Minus: not great cleaning in the rooms and average breakfast. Wifi is sometimes slow. Staff was ok, but not really open & friendly as you'll normally find in Nothern Thailand. Exeption are the lovely ladies at the breakfast.
Upon arrival we ate at the restauarant chicken sate. Unfortunatelly 4 out of 10 skewers had raw uncooked chicken meat! Even after I have mentioned it, they still let me pay for the complete dish. After a whole discussion they give me a discount of 20%, a pitty to start your stay at a hotel. Also when checking out, the reception lady insisted that I paid an internet card which I have never used. Again a shame to end your stay.

Conclusion: high season was good value for the price we paid, low season not. The hotel is at a great location, nice swimmingpool, free wifi, lots of restaurants/dinning places nearby. And do not forget the lovely massage ladies at the opposite of the hotel. Every evening life music which is ok, though the songs are dated and every evening the same ones :). Not sure if I would stay here again, if so it would only be for the swimmingpool, location and price.

TIP: do visit the Nakara Jardin for an unforgettable high tea or lunch, a must when staying in Chiang Mai. Some unique tours: a non averadge cooking class, completely different then the most known ones: Thai Home Garden Cooking School (we cook). And learning about the real traditional life in Nothern Thailand: Ban Tiep.

We have returned to the Raming Lodge hotel for a second stay and found that on our previous visit it is in an ideal location. 15mins from the airport, 5mins walk to the old city area, 10mins easy walk to the Night Bazzars, 5mins walk to the Sunday Night Walking Market and 10min walk to the Saturday Night Walking Market. The hotel again was friendly and accommodating for our needs. The room (deluxe) on the 3rd floor was large with a king size bed and good faculties, however the hotel was under some redevelopment on the top floor which created construction noise from 9am onwards. As during our last visit to this hotel the staff were always helpful and ready to assist in anyway required.
We would not hesitate to again recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Chiang Mai.

Room Tip: A room at the rear is quieter but walls a little thin.

The location is excellent as it puts you right in the middle of Loi Kron road which is the center of the limited nightlife in Chiang Mai. Check-in was a breeze with kudos to Jenny/Kitty who handled all issues with a breeze, perfect English and a smile. The room was old but good enough. King size bed very comfortable. Breakfast was adequate.

The biggest problem:wi-fi access. Fail. Only worked in the lobby where guests would congregate to use it. From reading other reports one can see that this has been a chronic issue at this hotel. Fortunately, we only stayed here for 2 days so it was tolerable.

Would I stay here again...only as a last choice.

Room Tip: Stay in a lower room so it's easier to get to the lobby and wi-fi access.

The location is perfect as it is near the walled city, and the night market. The room was very large and I didn't have a lot of difficulty with Wi-Fi. The bellmen and front desk personnel were pleasant and helpful. The driver (bellman) who picked us up was wonderful! The breakfast wasn't too good. I'd eat somewhere else next time. I thought the room was pretty clean but the bathrooms need to be refurbished. There is a frosted window in the shower and the window sill is suffering from the water. For the price (about $70 USD) we thought it was great. The music downstairs was the only noise we heard but I managed to go to sleep with it. We found the beds comfortable. The music was very nice by the way. We would probably stay here again.

We, 2 adults and 2 children (4 and 6 yrs old), stayed for 6 nights during the Xmas period. The hotel is well located about 10 mins walk (with a stroller) to the Tha Phae Gate, which is the start walking street on the Sunday. If you walk to the opposite end for about 15 mins, there is the night market.

The hotel food is mediocre and you can find plenty of western food along the street. We prefer Thai food and have to hunt the good and reasonably priced in other streets. Massage is just across the street but the in-house complimentary massage from our package was very good. The massage therapist has firm hands and managed to release a lot of the tensions and aches from my body!

7-11 is only 2-3 doors to the right when you exit from the hotel. Staff is pleasant and helpful.

The minuses are:
1. The rooms facing the east have windows looking out at wall of another building
2. The nightly entertainment, albeit pleasant crooning, at the front of the restaurant only stops at about 10 pm and the music permeates through the whole hotel. No good if you have young kids needing the nightcap at 8pm. Hotel management should really consider containing the music within the restaurant instead of out in the open.
3. The street is filled with bars and pubs, with lady boys and bargirls hanging around for adult customers. So, not so pleasant if you have kids.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in the higher floors to get away from the street level noise.

Hotel rooms were clean and staff was really welcoming and helpful. Within walking distance to Sunday Walking Streets and other bazaars. Plenty of nearby bars, restaurants, massage salons, and attractions. At night there is live music by the restaurant but we only had breakfasts at the restaurant, which was average compared to the delicious street food and restaurants steps away... Would definitely stay here again. Good value for a good price.
