My teenage daughter and I returned from Thailand a week ago, where we did a tour with All Thailand Experiences up north for seven days. I have nothing but high praise for this tour company. When I first contacted Randy Gaudet (owner), I was trying to decide which tour company to use and had many (MANY!) questions - which I had no hesitation in putting into numerous emails. Randy answered each email thoughtfully and completely, which caused me to ultimately decide to go with All Thailand. Our trip - centered around Chiang Mai and up near the Burmese border - was absolutely incredible. It's hard to believe how much we actually did during the tour. We accomplished and saw a tremendous amount, yet it never felt rushed or jampacked. I am convinced we experienced a side (and sites) of the area that most tourists never even begin to experience. What's more, All Thailand was totally flexible with our itinerary; when I sheepishly admitted that eating spicy food was not my strong suit, restaurants and meal choices were cheerfully changed to accommodate my tastes. When my daughter and I decided fairly late in the game that we did, in fact, want to humanely ride an elephant, plans were changed in order to allow us to do so. Our trusty driver, Jackie, kept us amused with his origami birds and wacky antics - but he was a totally safe driver :) We...My teenage daughter and I returned from Thailand a week ago, where we did a tour with All Thailand Experiences up north for seven days. All in all, I think we received wonderful service and enjoyed amazing experiences at a fair price by using All Thailand, and I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to use them again. I can wholeheartedly recommend this company to others.MoreShow less
Thank you Pam for your comment. Sorry our guide Amber had a last minute family emergence and you had to put up with me for a few days. Jackie, your driver, did a great job picking up the slack taking care of us. I am very happy you had as much fun as I did visiting my good hill tribe friends. When you return on your next trip Amber or Nok will take good care of you and much better than I did. Thank you again for your kind words.
We had a great day with Randy and his driver/birding guide Jackie. We are a family of four (two young adult children, two parents). We spent the morning near a reservoir not far from Chiang Mai, and the afternoon in a city park. We saw 21 species of birds. Randy and Jackie were competent and knowledgeable, took us to a great restaurant for lunch, and were flexible around the family's interests. Randy and Jackie also shared their binoculars as not all in our group brought them.
Thank you Tina for your kind review. 21 species pretty good for rainy season with no flowering trees, fruits or seeds. No need to travel far from Chiang Mai city to go birding and see beautiful species.
Jackie and Randy
The birdwatching tour was a very pleasant experience. We saw and identified 40 species of birds, including rare and endemic ones. At the birdwatching spots we could take our time and admire the colorful birds :) We were given a list of species in order to check the ones that we saw - very useful if you are new to exotic birds. The tour was well organised. We were offered cooled drinking water and had a tasty thai lunch at a local place. I recommend it to all bird-lovers!
Thank you Kat for the kind review. We are very passionate about bird watching and pleased to hear you had as much fun as we did. If you return to Thailand in the future try birding with us for 3 days or so in different areas to view more different species. Again thank you for your kind words.
My wife and I booked a 3-day/2-night birdwatching trip into Doi Inthanon. We were picked up promptly at 5:30 AM from our hotel in Chiang Mai by Randy and our driver, Jackie. As we were driving to drop off Randy. we were reminded by Randy that we owed the remaining cost in cash. We had neglected to read our invoice completely when it was sent at the time of booking. So we didn’t have the required cash. We stopped at an ATM and discovered our card had been suspended, which is another story. Randy was patient and flexible, and we ultimately got the matter resolved.
There were many aspects we liked about the birding trip. The scenery was great. We saw 96 species of birds in 3 days. Boontom was an excellent birder and Jackie was a safe and lovely driver. The food was delicious and plentiful (some of the best Thai soup we’ve ever had). However, the accommodation in the riverside bungalow was rough. The bed was like concrete with a single fleece blanket. There was no heat, so it was cold at night with lows in the 40s. My wife and I stayed plastered to each other all night to stay warm. The bathrooms are very basic and are “wet” bathrooms with demand hot water - not a place to linger. However, to put it in context, these bungalows are in a remote area, which is part of a village in the national park.
We are casual birders who didn’t prepare at all for this trip. Despite that, Boontom was very patient with us. He is excellent at locating birds and can quickly identify them by sight and call. Jackie enjoys birdwatching and photography and takes wonderful bird photos. They both took great care of us. Although we were happy to return to more comfortable accommodations in Chiang Mai (we are no longer young, budget travelers) this was a memorable trip and we are glad we did it.
Thank you for your kind review.
as the bungalows in the park are not being well maintained and service has gone down and no longer meet our standards plus their raising prices we no longer offer overnight birding trips to Doi Inthanon National Park. Most of the bungalow are now catering to the Chinese visitors who's standards are well below ours.
We still do day birding trips to Doi Inthanon National Park and near Chiang Mai with professional birding guides but return clients to their hotel in Chiang Mai nightly.
Thanks again for birding with us,
Despite the cost which may be a lot for many , if you would like an unique & tailored made experience of the culture and people of north Thailand region including serval different hill tribes, this is a trip you will enjoy.
We had a chance to meet and do a short walk with "uncle Dum "who speaks perfect English and can answer all your questions with a smile and good humour.
Our driver Bobby was a great and safe driver who also had a wonderful smile.
On our 2 day trip we saw a beautiful sunrise from a temple, stayed in a " home garden" near a river ran by a kind family with good food and saw a tea plantation after a beautiful drive high into the mountains.
Thank you for the kind review,
Price depends on how many persons in your party and type of accommodations. There were 2 in your party and overnight was at a small family owned resort in a beautiful air conditioned bungalow on the Kok riverside. If there were 4 persons the price would have been cut in half per person and doing the Home Stay at Uncle Dum's home instead of the resort would have cut the price further.
To make sure our clients enjoy a wonderful experience we only do private tours away from the normal tourist crowds. Our clients feel the experience is well worth the price. There are hundreds of tour operators that do the normal cookie cutter tours very cheap in Thailand. We provide experiences you will remember for a lifetime making friends while enjoying the local culture and nature.
Thank you again for the nice review,
Well where do i begin? I supose with our guide Randy and driver Jackie. They were a great team who made our day really nice, stopping at nice picture locations on the way. We saw a hill tribe village, pagoda and had a monk bless us, tea plantation, weaver, rice mill and the beautiful mountains!!
Than you both for making our day amazing and I would take 2 or 3 days next time. 1 is just too short. Good luck you two with all your new adventures. Take care, it was nice meeting you! Greetings Caroline and Willem
Thank you Caroline and Willem for the nice review. It was my pleasure to show you a part of Thailand I Love away from the normal tourist crowds visiting our friends while seeing spectacular scenery.
See you again soon,
Organising our day trip to the national park and highest mountain in Thailand was very straight forward, and we paid a deposit simply using PayPal.
We were collected from our hotel in Chaing Mai at 5.30am and and reached the national park about two hours later. The vehicle used was comfortable, with AC, and the driver was safe and courteous.
This was a birding trip where the pace was leisurely. The owner of the tour company, Randy, was our principal guide. However the driver, Jacky, also helped to find some of the birds. We visited four or five different habitats and altitudes throughout the day, and this meant a range of species were seen. Identification of some species was not always certain, partly because forest birding often means relatively short views. But we saw some good birds and enjoyed our day very much.
Randy is an ethical birder and puts the welfare of the Birds first. This we appreciated, and this is how it should be. Encroaching on birds for a closer photo is rightly not allowed!
All in all, a good day and good value for money.
Thank you Tony for your kind review. Identifying birds is difficult when they keep moving looking for food. December through February it is much easier for identification as flowering trees are blooming and the birds will stay much longer in 1 spot enjoying the nectar from the flowers.
Birding in Thailand for more than 20 years I have seen certain shy rare birds move to a different area because of birding pressure by tour groups. I have had to travel several miles in the park to find where they moved to. For this reason we do only private birding tours in small groups of no more than 6 to some birding areas away from the birding tour groups.
I booked a tour under short notice and the owner, Randy got back to me quickly.
We were picked up very promptly from our hotel by our driver Jackie and our guide for the day Randy. We arrived at the park and as soon as we stepped outside, Randy heard the call of a Pygmy Wren Babbler, which we both managed to see with great views. Throughout the day I managed to see some great birds and Randy knows which places to visit within the park to maximise your list.
Our driver Jackie was excellent, he has a great passion for birds and photography. He was also spotting birds whilst driving and stopping, allowing me to get out of the car and watch mixed flocks as they moved through the area which was fantastic.
A big thank you to Randy and Jackie for a great day.
Thank you Chris and Georgia for your kind review. I had lots of fun enjoying our birding trip with you guys and we saw 43 different species which is a lot considering most of the migratory birds such as Robbins, Redstarts, Niltava, Swallows and Warblers have not arrived yet.
Jackie, our driver, has very good eyes to spot the birds while he is driving, a lot of the birding success is because of him and his passion for birding.
If you get a chance come in December when we could spot up to 70 species in 1 day when the Chinese cherry and other trees are in full bloom and the migratory birds re here.
Overall we enjoyed our bird watching trip to Doi Inthanon. The transport, accommodation and meals (especially the first day khao soi) was great. When we got to go birding with Boontam (local bird guide) and Jackie we had the most fanastic time and managed excellend birding. Unfortunately we only got the 'expert local birdguide' that we booked and paid for after 48hours into our 4 day trip, as Randy insisted on taking us himself for the first 2 days. Randy's knowledge of the birds are lacking and despite taking us to the areas he was unable to help correctly identify most of the birds. This was not the case with Boontam and our review would have been very different if we got what had been promised. In this sense we agree with an earlier review done by Ashley in Dec 2016. Thanks Randy for the organization, as we enjoyed the trip overall, but you didn't deliver the birding we paid for 11 months in advance.
Thank you for your review.
Some of the areas the group visited with me were very large open areas with fewer birds than the densely bird populated birding areas at Doi Inthanon specially in the Chiang Mai area. Boontom and I talked together before the tour and I gave Boontom the areas to take the group birding that was much easier with a lot more birds mostly right along the road as that is much easier for him. He doesn't like to take clients birding in the difficult areas with fewer birds and more spread out. It wasn't so much the guide as the areas I had to take the group birding and the area Boontom had. The group seemed to enjoy wandering looking for birds in many different directions rather then staying with me birding so they saw a few birds I did not see so i could not properly identify them, only by their description as they did not have cameras to take a photo of the bird. For this reason I m sure some mistakes were made with birds like warblers. At times when I called them over from where they were to where I was to view a bird the bird was already gone. The group seamed to be happy doing birding their way so I did not interfere.
I have been birding in North Thailand for 25 years with many satisfied clients mixing birding with the North Thailand Lanna culture. We understand we just can't please everyone but we try our best.
This past July my wife and I did a 3 day 3 night birding tour of Doi Inthanon National Park with All Thailand Experiences. It was excellent.
Jackie, our driver, was incredibly kind and accommodating--he was also a very safe driver. And Boontom was as knowledgeable a bird guide as you'll find. He lives in the national park, and knows every bird in the park, and where to find them. Both Jackie and Boontom were excellent company.
Jackie and Boontom arranged all of the meals (at a few different restaurants, included in the tour price), and the food was all delicious.
The accommodation was...adequate, but the location was great. Doi Inthanon is beautiful.
All in all, the tour was great, and the price was very reasonable, especially for a birding-specific tour. I highly recommend a Doi Inthanon tour with All Thailand Experiences.
Thank you for your kind review. Together we have 60 years birding experience in Northern Thailand. Myself I have 25 years experience birding in North Thailand, Boontom 20 years and Jackie 15.
All Thailand Experienced put together a 6 day tour from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai for 4 of us. We had to meet a Pandaw Cruise pickup from Chiang Rai.
Randy gave us some great advice/suggestions based on our basic tour criteria. We really enjoyed the end result and visited some beautiful areas. We also like bird watching so he arranged a couple days of that as well.
It was nice to get away from the touristy areas and into the remoter Hill Country.
Payment was easy with paypal deposit and rest in THB when we arrived in Chiang Mai.
Vehicle was immaculate with good aircon and Jackie the driver an absolute delight. And very safe as well.
Guides spoke good english and were very well organised. In fact Randy joined us for the last few days and that was really appreciated as his experience of the area and Hill Tribes is excellent.
Would definetly use them again when in Thailand.
Thank you very much for such a kind review. Our guides, drivers and myself always Love to share our experiences in North Thailand away from the normal tourist crowds with others. We all enjoyed your companionship during the tour and had a great time. It was like being with family.
I will share your review with our staff. Thanks again.
