This was an amazing day. Our friendly guides picked up us right outside our hotel and took us to the the remote mountainside site of Sunshine for Elephants. I enjoyed getting involved with prepping the meals for our new friends. It was a blast interacting with these gentle giants face to face. It was a very laid back elephant paced day. The vegetarian lunch they provided was absolutely delicious.
Our guide Bancha was very informative on the elephants and the local area. I appreciate how honest they are with the state of the industry in Thailand and how things are starting to change. I felt good contributing to this form of ecotourism.
All in all it was a fantastic experience and no one should leave Chiang Mai without doing it.
We were picked up from our Airbnb, driven out to the nature park, and given an incredible educational day. These rescue elephants are amazing. The ones with injured legs from land mine explosions are now on their feet and leading a good life. We got to feed elephants, watch them bathe, touch the ones willing to be touched (and not all of them are due to their past horrible treatment at the hands of humans.).
We had the full day tour (Elephant Freedom) and it was a magical experience to interact with the elephants. We made food to them, fed them, walked them around the surroundings of the sanctuary and finally went bathing with them in a nearby river. The elephants seemed very happy and well treated.
This place was so wonderful. It supports the idea of free living elephants. They rescue elephants from show and circus and let them spend the rest of their lives in a beautiful land of Elephants Nature Park.
We did not even need to watch elephants’ show or ride them to enjoy our trip. All you need to do here is watching them freely do things they want without being forced to dance or paint or watch to satisfy us.
Elephant experience is very overwhelming, even on my second visit.
This is by far the most incredible experience you could have in Thailand. These elephants came from terrible conditions and horrible places where they were used and abused by humans. They now just want nice people to come feed them and bathe them.
We booked online and were picked up from our Airbnb. We spent the day feeding the elephants, making them some sticky rice balls, going on a hike with them, bathing them, and eating our own lunch of course. They lunch was fully vegetarians which was great and delicious! Our guide nick was wonderful and knew a lot about the elephants. He shared some incredible stories with us as he’s been working there for 4 years now. We took part in one of their interesting programs. On the main land they have a bit over 80 elephants that they’ve rescued. But recently they started going around to tourist sites where folks ride elephants and try to convince them that this isn’t ok and that there is another way. They help them and the elephants have a better future without exploiting them for money etc. it was wonderful to see these elephants and how happy they are. I would totally do this again!
We spent a great day here and learnt so much about this magnificent animal and the valuable work / education that the Centre does. Our guide was informative and happy to answer any questions. Although we did the short visit we were treated to an enormous vegetarian lunch, with pick ups from and to our hotel and only small groups with any one guide. I will never again photograph a tourist riding an elephant nor would I ever dream of riding one myself.
