“Poor room”
Reviewed May 25, 2013

We stayed here as part of a G adventures tour for 1 night before crossing the border to Laos.
The room was boiling hot when we checked in and we couldn't get the air con to work. On investigation it turned out the batteries in the remote control were finished. We replaced them with some spares we had but why the staff hadn't done that who knows! It was a small double bed that was hidden round the corner from the air con so a very uncomfortable night.
The bathroom and toilet were out through another door into a corridor that was open for all to see. So when you had a shower you practically had to get dressed before you could get back in the room. Very strange arrangement.
I would definitely not stop here again.

There seems to be some confusion with this page - the guesthouse pictured is not the Nam Khong Guest House in Chiang Mai. That branch was quite nice; the staff were quite friendly (especially the head lady, 'Annabelle'). The rooms are fairly clean, the noise isn't bad, and there is a nice lobby for reading/relaxing/meeting other travelers. As with most guesthouses, there is an endless supply of tours, packages, and experiences available for the 'best price in town'.

This quite possibly be the worst service iv ever seen in Thailand and that's after many years traveling in this part of the world. Movie night- no - staff watching Thai soapy, dinner discussing, 50thr to use pool, 20thr to use a towel + 100thr deposit, they advertise as river side - no - other side of town. Just don't do the slow boat package that comes through here, infact just don't do slow boat package, catch public bus to boarder and organise yourself.

We stayed here as part of the Laos slow-boat package. What a joke! Everything, including towels, the swimming pool, cushions were all chargeable! What really took the biscuit was in the public restaurant and bar area, where you're allowed to watch films on the TV, was when two of the staff came in and turned the film off that everyone was watching, half way through, to turn on a Thai soap so that they could watch the TV. We all sat there in complete bewilderment at what had just happened. The staff have absolutely no respect for their guests - do not give your money to them!!!

Nam Kong is a great place to stay. It's not luxurious but it's the best value in Thailand. For the cost of 200 baht we received two double beds, a fan and a private washroom.
The location is close to everything although sometimes it can be loud with the neighboring hotel having parties.
The best thing about the guesthouse is the staff. I even had a lunch packed in the morning by the counter person staff after booking a mountain bike trip through the guesthouse.

First, I would like to clarify that I am writing a review about Nam Khong Gueshouse in Chiang Mai on Tapae Soi 3. It seems some of the reviews may be for a different guesthouse elsewhere.

My room had bedbugs. Do not stay here!!! Upon discovering the bedbugs in the morning, I immediately went down to the reception with three bugs in a bag to inform the staff. Although she offered to dry all of my clothes and belongings, she did not seem particularly surprised about the bedbugs which causes me to wonder if this is not a new problem here. She was also not particularly apologetic and even wanted me to pay for the room. Bed bugs can cause extreme infestations and travelers definitely do not want the hassle. I myself have a bed bug phobia and will not stay here again.

I've stayed one night in this hotel on our transit to Laos and it was maybe one of the most beautiful and best value hotels on our whole 2 month southeastasia trip. It's just an oasis of peace and calm in a very shady, ugly, dirty town. It has a beautiful pool and very clean facilities. All the cabins are in a lush garden. We payed 250 bath (about 6 euro's or 8 usd) per room per night. If you have to stay overnight at Chiang Khong, stay here!
