Old hotel with lots of character. Amazing antiques in the lobby. Very friendly, helpful staff. Checked in around noon, night staff knew my room number. Very reasonable price. They are remodeling floor by floor, so the upper floor rooms are better right now. East facing rooms have a view of a beautiful old temple that sparkles in the sunlight. West facing rooms have a view of the mountain.

Room Tip: for a splurge, try one of the suites at the front of the hotel, Enjoy a refreshing evening on the balcony eating fresh fruit from the nearby market.

From the outside and on the brochure this looks like a very luxurious hotel. And don't get me wrong the rooms are a good size and clean but could be made to look a lot nicer simply by hanging some pictures! 4 bare white walls make the rooms feel very cold.
Staff were very friendly and helpful and has very quick wifi.

Not a bad hotel about 10 minutes walk from the Night Bazaar and ThaPae Gate - the starting point of the Sunday market. The rooms are fairly comfortable, though our bed was a little soft and bouncy. There is airconditioning, fridge with 2 complimentary bottles of mineral water a day, TV with foreign channels, and hot water. I would describe the rooms as being fairly soulless - they have done the bare minimum decor-wise. The same applies to the public areas. However, this is reflected in the price - 850 baht per night during the high season. We only stayed the one night and I'm not sure I'd recommend it for any longer, not unless you had activities planned for most of the day.
We didn't eat in the restaurant. - there are far too many other places to try in Chiang Mai.
The hotel is a very short walk from ThaPae Road - one of the main roads. Public transport costs 20 baht per person from the railway station and takes about 15 minutes.

Hotel is located about half way between the old city of Chiang Mai and the Nigh Market. It is about 10 mins walk in either direction where there are plenty of restaurants in each area.
Breakfast at the hotel was just so-so, not a lot of choice for westerners however I guess adequate - I only ate there twice, and decided I could do better for breakfast elsewhere which is what I did.

Suite was very large, although a lot of large vacant spaces in the room (around the edge). Hotel is certainly a candidate for a major reno - could easily fit extra 2 single beds in the suite plus kitchenette & would still have space left (family room perhaps?) although I did see that a lot of the rooms had already been renovated, so I guess that they have started.

The room consisted of queen bed, 3pce lounge suite coffee table, table & chairs, small frig & bench where you could make tea-coffee (altho tea-coffee not provided). Bathroom - it has been partly renovated - ie new tiles and bath.

The sign out the front of the hotel says it is a budget hotel, however it is ok for a few days and certainly no major dramas apart from the hot water which is a hit and miss affair (ie whether you get it or not) Hot water seems ok in vanity basin at any time of day, just not shower - might be a plumbing issue. Learnt to live with it for the short time I was there.

Plenty of tuk-tuks and red taxis around the area. The red taxis are the cheapest means of transport, however you just need to be patient as they stop off & pick up on whatever route the passengers at the time want to go to. Usually the cost is around 20B per person. If you are budget conscious, then this hotel certainly should be considered, however if you want a more convenient place to stay (ie nearer to the night market area or the walled city area) there are a lot of other hotels closer.

Restaurant Tip: Lots of restaurants in the lanes near to the hotel which are very cheap - and the food is always great.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for 5 nights this summer while travelling around thailand. We decided to pay a little extra for a hotel (650 baht per night) for some comfort and it was perfect. Very clean and so central. Right beside the night bazzar and the city gate. The staff in the hotel were extremely friendly and were able to book all of our tours and days out including a hotel taxi driver who would wait for us while we visited the different sites and then take us home. Would recommend it very highly. Lovely place ..especially for Thailand!!
