It is different from other as it is made of teak (wood)..It is nice and simple with small grounds on one side.It can be easily approached while on a walking tour through old ciy of chiang mai....located right next to wat Chedi Luang. Good place for photographers...as it gives something different, than usual golden theme...

Unlike most of the Wats the temple building is unpainted wood. The wood panels are beautifully carved and the difference in material from most Wats makes it a must see in the Old City of Chiang Mai. The grounds are small, but there is a metal stupa and pretty pond behind the temple.

just off the main street of the old quarter this wooden temple is different from all the golden Wats that can be found essentially everywhere in old chiang mai. Its simple buauty makes it my favorite.

The Temple grounds are small but the main Temple is worth the visit, as it is a rare example of unpainted teak. It is very pretty. There is a nice little pond in the back with a Buddha statue under a tree.

LOGISTICS
Wat Pan Tao is located in the old quarter of Chiang Mai, which is a 1km squared area surrounded by a moat. There are around 36 temples in this area alone. The best way to explore them is by foot and I would recommend seeing this temple as a part of a walking tour of the temples going Wat Phra Singh > Wat Chedi Luang > Wat Phan Tao. The whole thing would take maybe an hour or so.

REVIEW
The beauty of this temple is that it is composed of old teak wood rather than 95% of temples in SE asia which are made of stone or concrete. Therefore, it is slightly different and appeals to the tourist who is getting a bit over the temple trail. It also easily accessed as a part of a walking tuor of the old quarter and requires little effort to get to.

CONCLUSION
Definitely worth a look particularly in combination with other temples in the old quarter.
