Dusit D2 Chiang Mai
Ranked #28 of 394 Hotels in Chiang Mai
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed March 3, 2012

The Dusit d2 is a modern, great quality hotel in the heart of Chiang Mai close to the bustling night market and provides a great base from which to explore the town itself and the surrounding area. It delivers a fantastic service, and as someone who tends to judge the quality of a hotel not just by its rooms and its service, but also by its breakfast quality, this hotel delivers on all counts.
As long as you are able to walk easily then the town centre is easily explored on foot, but if not there are plenty of Tuk Tuks around to take you where you need to go - just be careful to offer and agree a price before you hop on board!
If you are worried about any noise from the night market there really isnt any to speak of, but we requested a high room by e-mail prior to arrival and the hotel duly obliged. the extra benefit of this is the marvellous views of the surrounding area, and very unusually the windows in the room opened so you could even hear the birdsong.
The level of attention to detail given by the staff is amazing, with extra complimentary water offered when necessary, and each room has a daily surprise box which they leave a small gift in each day.
TIPS:
Haggle on all market stalls and Tuk Tuks to get great prices. Much of the night market is made up of stalls selling fake goods, but there are some real gems mixed in as well if you look hard enough!
Try the hotels award-winning spa - it is more expensive than the many massage places in town, but what they do deliver is a great, calming experience.
The swimming pool was bigger trhan expected, and it does get the sunshine so is worth visiting, despite the water being refreshing i.e. cold!.
If you are into keeping fit then the d fit gymn is simply sensational, with great quality machines and equipment, and stunning views over the city from its top-floor position. Even if you dont use the gym, make the effort to go up and go onto the outside terrace for stunning views of the city.
If you need to iron your clothes, just ask and a complimentary ironing board and decent steam iron will be delivered to your room.
Whilst the food quality at the hotel is excellent, it is pricey. If you want to save some money and try some real Thai food, then go no further than the food court across the road in the night market. It is a bit rough and ready but is a great experience where you buy tickets from a cashier and use these to pay for food and drinks at any of the 15 or so different food stalls which are cooking food to order. It is used extensively by both tourists and locals and has a great atmosphere. You can five reasonable size dishes to share between 2 plus drinks for well under a tenner! The cutlery at the service stations just needs to be dipped in the boiling water provided, but make sure you take tissues or wipes to ensure your fingers are clean as some of the dishes need fingers, depending on what you choose.
There are plenty of salesmen in the market and all along the street market (on every day)wanting to sell you their goods, but unlike other places a friendly no thanks with a smile is the end of it, and there is no pressure, unlike in Phuket.
You wont need to take your own shampoo or conditioner as the hotel toiletries are top class, and the hairdryer has enough puff to function well despite its small size.
Try the Bircher muesli at breakfast, probably the best we have ever eaten.
This is a genuine top class hotel that is built around delivering great service but still with a very relaxed feel to it, and there is no stuffiness. If you choose this hotel you will love every minute!

Room Tip: Higher floors have great views over the city

Spent two nights at the Dusit D2 during our stay to Chiang Mai.

We chose a Club Deluxe room that including daily breakfast and access to the 7th floor Club Lounge.

Check in, luggage delivery and check out were friendly and efficient.

Despite the mixed comments on the pool and gym we were pleasantly surprised by both and found them to be a nice break from the busy streets and night markets.

For those interested in the limited gay nightlife of Chiang Mai the hotel is located across from the main nightlife alley.

Overall a good choice but I am not sure if I would go for the Club Upgrade - the happy hour offerings were nice but pretty limited in comparison to other hotel lounges. Also the WiFi while free is very spotty and requires you to log in every time the signal is lost. According to the staff they are currently looking into the issue.

Taxis are set at 150 BAHT from the airport to the hotel.

An excellent hotel in the Dusit Thai tradition, excellent staff, clean and tidy, although they were a bit careless with the vacuum cleaner, missing our room several times. The location near the night market is very good, the restaurant very good. The room would be called a junior suit in most other hotels. The bathroom was very good. One problem was the bed, very very hard. But for the bed we would have called this an excellent hotel.

The D2 in Chiang Mai is a great place to stay they staff are exceptional and they really understand the meaning of Thai Hospitality and how to provide the best service. I would highly recommend any one travelling to this part of Thailand to stay at the hotel.

A great boutique hotel located in the middle of the nightmarket area. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Dusit D2 is a modernist's dream. Right from the dressed down bellboys, to the quirkly glasses with the green coloured welcome drink.

The rooms are comfortable but a bit small, but loved the food especially room service ate in most nights.

Staff is very friendly always smiling, even for Thailand where everyone is friendly they are more so.

Located across the street to the night market bang in the center of town the location is ideal and the outside restaurant bar is almost in middle of the street stalls.

Loved the decore and the gym was good (could use some more benches and some more free weights like barbells though).

Stayed here twice and I will definately stay here again.

Room Tip: Try to get one that does not look onto another building

Wow-arrived here from Dusit in Bangkok and this deserves serious attention! Fantastic location, exceptional service, all underpinned by Dusit brand but with a modern twist which carries through really well. We are coming back for sure. The 7th floor is a terrific experience. Breakfast seriously good and is difficult to beat on many travels - keep it going D2!

Room Tip: Go for 7th floor
