“DONT STAY HERE”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

Yes this hotel is central, but that's as good as it gets. We paid the extra for a dynasty suite, well I would hate to see the standard rooms. Carpets worn, musty smell, thin walls could here rooms either side in their bathrooms and conversations. Included with our room was transfers but no one turned up to pick us up so we paid for taxi. Staff at reception played dumb when I queried them on arrival and didn't care they all spoke very little English. This hotel would be the rudest hotel we have stayed at in Thailand. The breakfast was absolute rubbish, ham floating in water that was their version of bacon, we only went to breakfast 2 days of our 5 day stay could not be bothered the rest of our stay . The shopping is not as fantastic as its made out to be, the famous markets are rubbish we didn't find anything to rave about in my opinion the shopping is better on Koh Samui and Phuket and Bangkok. Hence us cutting our stay short and heading back to Bangkok early. We wont be going back to chiangmai and definitely not back to this horrible hotel.

Dear Valued Guest,

On behalf of our entire Team we would like to apologize for the
Fact that our products and services during the time of your stay
With us were below expectations. Several of the comments you
Have made refer to items that have now been fixed or are in the
Process of being amended if I may mention please

We are the first to acknowledge that the hotel being one of the
More mature buildings in the region of the city required attention
With regards to furnishings and upgrading – a refurbishment of
Many rooms and corridor areas is presently underway and within
The near future all of the rooms will have been renovated including
The corridors and most of the public areas we feel confident that
These measures taken will negate future challenges for our guests.

Our Executive Chef in conjunction with a visit from the Group
Operations Manager has recently changed many of the menu items
And including the breakfast buffet ham is no longer presented in
Hot water – sausages are cooked in small amounts with additional
Garnishes and presented fresh and pan fried – additional egg stations
Have been added to make service in this respect much faster and the
Overall ambience and presentation of the breakfast buffet along with
All other menus has been/or is in the process of being retrained and
Changed

Additionally, your comments offered regarding the insincerity of the
Front Office staff and overall demeanor of our staff has been taken
Extremely seriously with remedial training now a part of the weekly
Training schedule to advance the reputation of our service

We hope that on a future visit to Thailand you would allow us to show
You the improvements we have made and also give Chiang Mai another
Chance to showcase the rich culture of the Lanna dynasty that Thai
People are very proud of and which has little in common with the local
Night markets or the regular night scenes present in all major cities.

Yours sincerely,

Khun Boonchai – General Manager

Looking out our hotel window we could see the pool below, McDonald's, Burger King and the night market. The location of the hotel to all this plus a Starbucks down the street makes for a great location. The hotel is big and gets a lot of tour traffic making it a busy place. The very nice pool is on the 4th floor, a salt water pool, that is just the right temperature to be truly refreshing. The hotel could use some TLC but it was a great place to rest travel weary bones and be close to the night markets and old city. The one negative...no free WiFi...they need to move into the 21st century...

I was part of a group of 36. We were greeted with a welcome drink and the tour director handled the front desk part and gave us our keys. The room was very nice, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included and I enjoyed the food and service.

I specifically liked the location which was within a block of the "night bazaar" and just a few blocks to Panthip Plaza.

If I went back I would choose this hotel.

I had never stayed in a hotel anywhere I have been in the world that does not have free wifi - even if only in the lobby area!! This hotel is the first!! As a result we ate and drank at places that did have free wifi. Hotel itself was clean but a bit tired. Pool was good.

Stayed for 3 days, and hotel is very big/tall, with friendly staff and housekeeping. Rooms and bathroom is of decent size, but maybe carpets should not be the first choice of floormaterial. We ordered a double bed, but on arrival we got two single beds instead. Not great. Toilets from neighbour room was extremly noisy and we could actually hear conversations taking place in the rooms wall to wall. But price for room was cheap, so no complaint about that. Wi-fi, on the other hand, was not free...not free at all, crazy expensive, which is stupid, you will get free wi-fi on almost every cheap hotel and guesthouse in town, in fact you could get a room, with wi-fi in a guest house, for the same price you will have to pay here, just for the wi-fi, so keep that in mind. On the other hand, if you are in no need for wi-fi and are looking for a okay hotel for a cheap price, in the heart of Chiang Mai, you could go here.

We stayed here on the 2nd leg of our honeymoon in Thailand. We arrived from Bangkok via the sleeper train and our taxi dropped us at the hotel.

Disappointingly the hotel staff didn't appear to be expecting our arrival. We were given a free drink while they sorted out finding our room. This was eventually sorted but we would later realise it wasn't the room we were supposed to be in. The room we were given clearly wasn't ready there were no towels and it tooled hours and 3 calls to reception to get the towels. Amongst other issues with the room the final straw was a loud noise coming from the bathroom. By this time it was very late and the hotel offered to change the room in the morning.

So the next day they changed the room but while they moved our cases to the new room they couldn't do it until mid morning so inconveniently we had to carry all our valuables with us that day.

However once the room was sorted we had a pleasant stay. The breakfast and food at the hotel was reasonable although the hotel is large so it does cater for the masses rather than the individual. The staff were helpful but overall the problems we had took the gloss off our stay in Chiang Mai.
