“Congratulations Nick Downing and staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2014

The "Chedi" Chiang Mai has been a favourite of ours for some time and, honestly, we feared the transition to Anantara. But we were wrong, under the very professional and "hands-on" guidance of the new GM, Nick Downing, a transition has never been better managed and our stay turned out to be simply fantastic, in every respect. The staff looks even more happy and dedicated than before, we could not find any fault, anywhere.
One of our most pleasant stays ever. We will visit again for sure. Thanks, congratulations.

We upgraded our room to a river view suite and were not disappointed. Hotel service was excellent, public areas are stunning, breakfast faultless and all this within walking distance or a 100 baht (£2) tuk tuk ride of all the sights.

We went to the Anantara in December with our 3 kids. First of all the location is absolutely perfect to visit Chiang Mai. The hotel is gorgeous especially the lobby, the restaurant is really good and right on the river and the pool beautiful. The staff was super friendly and Nick, the manager of the hotel could not have been nicer to us. I had a bunch of questions/concerns that have been addressed immediately and with a big smile on top of it. The interior design is quiet beautiful and the room was very clean even though it could use a little refresh - nothing dramatic.

Dear Marie C,

Thank you for sharing your comments about your recent experience at Anantara Chiang Mai.

I am particularly happy to hear that our team impressed and it was indeed a pleasure to assist you personally too.

I am also happy to inform that after the successful rebranding of this special property over the past few months, I am now handing over to the permanent new General Manager, Mr Syahreza Ishwara who is returning to Chiang Mai to lead this wonderful team into the future.

Thank you again for your comments and I know that we would love to welcome you back in the future.

Warmest wishes
Nick Downing

It's great. Probably the best hotel here, charming buildings, pleasant staff and with a lovely location on the banks of the river. The swimming pool is especially nice.

However, too many screaming children (at 7am, on more than one morning) and too many people on mobile phones by the pool. Management need to sort this out with some sort of policy, notices, etc, as I would think the overwhelming majority of their guests are here to relax. These two issues aside, the place would be perfectly tranquil.

Dear Pluto B

Thank you for sharing your comments about your recent experience at Anantara Chiang Mai and I am delighted to hear that you rank us so highly.

I would ageee (as you may have seen in some of my recent replies here) that this resort is designed more with couples in mind and certainly a great base to relax and recharge in the center of Chiang Mai. As such, I feel it was indeed a tad unfortunate that you were disturbed on this occasion as we generally do not have too many families at one time. I certainly apologise for any issue this caused at the time.

As for use of mobile phones, I regret to suggest that this may simply be part of modern life and hopefully most people have the courtesy to know when and when not to use them to refrain from disturbing others around them.

That being said, I do thank you again for sharing your feedback and we will always look at ways for how to provide an even better experience for all our guests in the future.

We certianly do hope to welcome you back one day.

Warm wishes

Returned for a second time to this amazing hotel.
The hotel has gone through a brand change, however the transition is seamless
Congrats to the new mgt for this integration.
We brought our friends with us as well and they fell in love with this hotel
Hotel is in walking distance to everything in Chiang Mai

Dear Meralee G,

Thank you for sharing your five star review of your experience at Anantara Chiang Mai recently.

As someone who has experienced the hotel previously, you have definitely paid us a wonderful compliment and I share this with the entire team at Anantara Chiang Mai. There is no doubt they have handled the transition brilliantly and without missing a step. Their committment to providing the highest levels of service remains as high as ever and it has been a pleasure to assist with the transition over the past few months.

I can only hope we have the chance to welcome you back time and time again in the future.

Thank you again.

stayed here with two small kids in july last year. We had a cllub room and we got a good deal as it was low season so it really was good value. The room was huge. Some Think it is too dark but we didnt Think so. Very good service and it was nice to have free minibar everyday. They gave a comlimentary bottle of wine and everyday we got fruit nuts and ice delivered to the room. In the morning we left laundry and in the afternoon it was back Clean and ironed., All included in the room rate. We stayed with kids and we were a bit worried it wouldt be a good choice for us.But there were lots of kids so we felt very comfortable. I Think the location is ideal for Tourist. It feels like you are in a very tranquil Place inside the hotel compound but its only a few hundreds meter to the night market.

Dear Ricki1975,

Many thanks for sharing such positive feedback about your stay with us at Anantara Chiang Mai.

I am indeed happy that your family enjoyed your stay with us. I often explain that the resort itself is possibly designed more with couples in mind due to the layout of the rooms, the grounds and the overall atmosphere of the resort. However we do find that many families enjoy using us as a great base from which to explore the central Chiang Mai town and surroundings due to our excellent riverside location minutes from all the action that Chiang Mai has to offer.

Thank you again for sharing such feedback and I do hope we have the chance to welcome you back in the future!

Warm regards
Nick Downing

Hesitating on booking this hotel?....DO IT, u won't regret it for a min.
Service is first class, from porter to reception staff to restaraunt & spa.
Standard rooms are fabulous, if u can afford it, upgrade, we blew the budget & upgraded & loved every min. I didn't see in other reviews the price of upgrading so I think it's worth mentioning it's very expensive (in my opinion) £80GBP per night to be exact on our stay. U get the free laundry, the free cocktails, the canapés etc. but the room is massive & the balcony is just great, we got complimentary bottle of white wine for being honeymooners, nice touch. Dinner can be a little on the expensive side for Thailand, but everything we ate was delicious, recommend the afternoon tea! Sun loungers are very comfortable. Fresh water is brought to ur lounger, the pool is refreshing & very peaceful surroundings. Spa was great, treated like royalty & they have offers on during weekdays. If u stay in club suite u have unlimited water, mini bar access & non named vodka, gin & whiskey. I had a gin & tonic & it was fine! Tuktuk into Chiang Mai is about 100bhat but u can get them down to the min fare of 60bhat if u try. We ate in Miguel's Mexican one night, very nice & had a look round the bars. Breakfast has a good selection & non buffet menu also. Night bizarre market is close by where u can buy all sorts of bags, sunglasses etc. whatever the price Is deduct 50% at least! All in all we LOVED our stay here, pure heaven (before arriving at hell in Phuket, but that's another story) if u are looking to relax in beautiful surroundings & luxury, this is the place for u!

Dear gillonthehill,

Thank you for sharing you excellent comments about your experience recently at Anantara Chiang Mai.

I can tell you enjoyed the Kasara Suite with its range of additional benefits. I must admit that this option is becoming more and more popular with double the internal space and expansive gorgeous balcony from which to just relax and recharge after a hard day out exploring Chiang Mai!

Thank you again for sharing such wonderful feedback and we hope to welcome you back soon!
