stayed here with two small kids in july last year. We had a cllub room and we got a good deal as it was low season so it really was good value. The room was huge. Some Think it is too dark but we didnt Think so. Very good service and it was nice to have free minibar everyday. They gave a comlimentary bottle of wine and everyday we got fruit nuts and ice delivered to the room. In the morning we left laundry and in the afternoon it was back Clean and ironed., All included in the room rate. We stayed with kids and we were a bit worried it wouldt be a good choice for us.But there were lots of kids so we felt very comfortable. I Think the location is ideal for Tourist. It feels like you are in a very tranquil Place inside the hotel compound but its only a few hundreds meter to the night market.

Dear Ricki1975,

Many thanks for sharing such positive feedback about your stay with us at Anantara Chiang Mai.

I am indeed happy that your family enjoyed your stay with us. I often explain that the resort itself is possibly designed more with couples in mind due to the layout of the rooms, the grounds and the overall atmosphere of the resort. However we do find that many families enjoy using us as a great base from which to explore the central Chiang Mai town and surroundings due to our excellent riverside location minutes from all the action that Chiang Mai has to offer.

Thank you again for sharing such feedback and I do hope we have the chance to welcome you back in the future!

Warm regards

Hesitating on booking this hotel?....DO IT, u won't regret it for a min.
Service is first class, from porter to reception staff to restaraunt & spa.
Standard rooms are fabulous, if u can afford it, upgrade, we blew the budget & upgraded & loved every min. I didn't see in other reviews the price of upgrading so I think it's worth mentioning it's very expensive (in my opinion) £80GBP per night to be exact on our stay. U get the free laundry, the free cocktails, the canapés etc. but the room is massive & the balcony is just great, we got complimentary bottle of white wine for being honeymooners, nice touch. Dinner can be a little on the expensive side for Thailand, but everything we ate was delicious, recommend the afternoon tea! Sun loungers are very comfortable. Fresh water is brought to ur lounger, the pool is refreshing & very peaceful surroundings. Spa was great, treated like royalty & they have offers on during weekdays. If u stay in club suite u have unlimited water, mini bar access & non named vodka, gin & whiskey. I had a gin & tonic & it was fine! Tuktuk into Chiang Mai is about 100bhat but u can get them down to the min fare of 60bhat if u try. We ate in Miguel's Mexican one night, very nice & had a look round the bars. Breakfast has a good selection & non buffet menu also. Night bizarre market is close by where u can buy all sorts of bags, sunglasses etc. whatever the price Is deduct 50% at least! All in all we LOVED our stay here, pure heaven (before arriving at hell in Phuket, but that's another story) if u are looking to relax in beautiful surroundings & luxury, this is the place for u!

Dear gillonthehill,

Thank you for sharing you excellent comments about your experience recently at Anantara Chiang Mai.

I can tell you enjoyed the Kasara Suite with its range of additional benefits. I must admit that this option is becoming more and more popular with double the internal space and expansive gorgeous balcony from which to just relax and recharge after a hard day out exploring Chiang Mai!

Thank you again for sharing such wonderful feedback and we hope to welcome you back soon!

Background:
A former Chedi, and the property is known for the sleek, stylish, zen architecture. Anantara's acquisition of management maintains the GHM level of service at this particular phase of transition; still, whether this hotel would retain its fame remains dubious.

Highlights of the property:
The club suite which includes return airport transfer, complimentary laundry, breakfasts and the club access for butler service and free evening canapés. The slide door to separate the resting area from the bathroom is ingenious; one would love it when diving into the deep bathtub with no cost of either the privacy or the view afar. My pal and I spent much time laying on the daybed of the balcony; very cosy the setting, but with little shade for privacy.
This hotel scores high for the in-room design and the variety of facilities available for guests. From the plunge pool to the lovely, charming consulate bar (a must-try, gorgeous in the late evening).

Toiletry:
Sparkles really came with the Patchouli soap for hand wash, and the Ginger flower soap for bathing. Not the usual sweet scent of lemon grass products, which are pleasant but somehow plain for SE hotels now.

Service:
House-keeping was a bit lousy initially; unattended ice bucket, used coffee cups not replaced, and scented candles laid forgotten in the wardrobe in the first evening. (Anyone who has stayed in a GHM property knows the twist of the lemon grass scented candle)
But the rest was just like a breeze.
All the staff members tried their best to spoil their guests. I highly appreciated what the sweet lady at the kasara lounge offered: she sent us, two lazy lads, biscuits from the lounge. And the bar at the consulate, aw, impeccable and magical service.

Catering:
The tapas at the consualte was impressive and unbelievably affordable. Honestly, perhaps the best in northern Thailand in my opinion. The tuna x avocado puree was divine to go with my cocktail; and the deep fried calamari, hmmm.
Breakfast was standard; good variety, and different kinds of eggs to choose from. But honestly the cheese and bread selection was somehow limited; and fruit jam appointed was a bit disappointing. And I would like to bring up the bland, flat coffee issue here; coffee from the coffee machine in room, the lounge, or at the breakfast was all a bit too bland and flat.

Conclusion:
I will definitely return, with the hope that current standard of service and the maintenance of the facilities will be even more upgraded.

Anantara is a beautiful hotel with an unusual layout that made for a very nice experience. The staff (every person and position) could not have been more pleasant and accommodating. Breakfast was made to order main course with buffet style accompaniments. We ate with a lovely view of the river. The reflecting pools and candlelight made the atmosphere very serene. One evening we were surprised to return and two beautiful Thai dancers and a musician playing a traditional stringed instrument were performing by one of the pools. The entire experience was most tastefully done

Hello Brent D

Thank you for your recent review of your experience at Anantara Chiang Mai.

I am delighted to read your comments and it certainly sounds like you enjoyed your time with us.

The local Thai dancers you experienced were recently introduced at the resort. Every Anantara around the world provides an evening ceremony around sunset and we chose to incorporate indigenous Thai dance as part of our own ceremony.

I am pleased to see that this, along with many other small and larger touches continue to raise the experience at this special urban resort by the Ping River.

We hope to welcome you back again in the future.

Warm wishes,
Nick Downing

This is a beautiful hotel right on the river and within walking distance to city activities. We traveled with a four year old on our first trip to Thailand & these are things we think other travelers may want to know:
-there are no connecting rooms, and while the club rooms are huge, with a big day bed in the living area, there is no separation between the spaces
- the whole space is an open plan, bathroom included. Closing four doors will permit some visual (but not sonic) privacy from the main room.
- the club lounge does not permit children under 13 during cocktail and canapé time; after discussion with the manager, we were able to take snacks back to our room
- the club lounge does not appear to offer refreshments other than at breakfast and cocktail time
- the cocktail hour is service driven, not a buffet. Three single bite canapés are provided; the offerings vary daily. Per the manager, you can request repeated servings, but we never tried as it seemed awkward. The first time we walked into the lounge, we thought we were in the wrong place, as the room was silent, vacant, with no signs of activity.
- there is no kids club. Babysitting is 450 baht per hour (about $14 at the moment)
- the pool is beautiful, but small for a resort. It is situated between the river and the spa building, so sun is lost after 2pm. The vibe is very quiet; some patrons clearly did not want children present. The water is very, very cold.
- the club rooms provide 7 pieces of laundry per day free (a pair of socks are one item). Nicely, this is multiplied by days of stay, so one the first day of a five day stay, you can do 35 pieces at once if needed.
- club rooms include breakfast in the lounge or restaurant. The restaurant offers more choices, but both are excellent.
- the complimentary minibar is so nice. Offerings include seasoned peanuts, a chocolate bar, beers, mixers, sodas. A half liter of unspecified vodka, gin, and whiskey were provided & replenished once daily. Requests to personalized the soda selection were occasionally successful; it's unclear if that was due to language or availability.
- the electric outlets are the multinational type, so no adapters required, though some devices may not be able to handle the higher voltage; check your plugs to see.
-there is a kids' menu available at the restaurant and pool.

Dear RainySeason

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about your recent stay with us.

I am delighted to know that overall you had a wonderful experience with us. As you noticed, we certainly do our best to look after families with young children. However it is true that the hotel itself was possibly designed more with couples in mind due to the fact that we indeed do not feature a kids club or interconnecting rooms. I would also agree that our pool certainly attracts guests looking for a relaxing and recharging experience than those seeking a true resort playground.

Having said that, we certainly do appeal to families seeking a wonderful base from which to explore the best that Chiang Mai has to offer. Our central location mentioned by so many guests here is a key feature which does lead to many deciding to base their Chiang Mai experience here.

Thank you again for sharing your detailed feedback and I am sure that many readers will indeed find this useful.

We certianly wish you and your family safe travels in future and it was a pleasure to meet you personally.

Warm regards

Based on the trip advisor reviews we booked 3 days at the Anantara in Chiang Mai. We totally fell in love with the hotel. The staff were always warm, welcoming and helpful. It is in a terrific location - on the river, walking distance to the old city, half a block from the night market, yet removed from the madness of Chiang Mai.
The room is a lovely combination of modern and warm/woody. The overall design of the hotel is open and airy and zen. There are water features throughout the resort and at night there are floating candles - stunning.
We used the gym daily - helpful attendant and well equipped.
We thought it was excellent value and would stay there again without hesitation.
