Luxurious retreat. Spacious, high quality rooms. Very modern with a tradional Thai twist. The staff were all very accomodating and helpful. They even remember your name and have taxi/tuk tuks waiting for you based on your plans for the day. Good value for a 5 star hotel, however the restaurant and spa would compare to North American 5 star property prices. Great local restaurants within walking distance (do not miss out on Just Khao Soi 100 meters from the hotel). The night bazaar is close by, as well as some great cheaper Thai massage options.

This Hotel is amazing. We travelled with 2 children under 8 and another family and all feel this Hotel complimented the wonderful experiences we had in Chiang Mia. From the concierge, reception, cleaning, restaurant and gym staff not anything went unnoticed and was Warm and thoughtful. The Hotel is close to the night markets which is less then 5 minutes to walk with small children. The gym is excellent and the extra details provided make you feel on holidays. the meals are amazing and the pool drinks are worthwhile. The rooms we had were excellent and the minibar offered a good choice of drinks. If you needed extra snacks the 7/11 were again only 5 minutes to walk. English speaking DVDs were available for the kids for resting. We also forgot our children's swimmers on the balcony the last day and they contacted us on our way to the airport and arranged delivery for us to the airport. Thank-you to all the staff of The Chedi for making our memories of Chiang Mia even more special.

The Chedi Chiang Mai is a beautifully crafted and designed hotel experience - from the greeting at registration, to the attention to detail within the rooms, and the faultless service at the restaurant and bar.

We ate breakfast most mornings at the hotel and it was consistent in it's quality however it was dinner at the same venue that proved to be outstanding. The cocktails and the meals were prepared and delivered with great care and pride. Thank you.

We didn't indulge in the Spa despite the flurry of promotional offers. I'm sure it would have been consistent with the rest of the hotel experience but to be frank - Spa service within Chiang Mai can be provided at a fraction of the price.

What we did do however was engage the hotel to provide an elephant and picnic experience for a special birthday treat. The elephant park (previously reviewed) was okay but not fabulous but the hotel butler who drove us around and set up the mountain picnic was good company and knew when to be present and when not to. The picnic itself was cold indian 'Empire' sandwiches and was very nice. Extraordinarily expensive, but very very nice. When we got back to the hotel we were presented with a special birthday cake! Now that's high care factor luxe service that is hugely appreciated and valued.

One thing we would advise future visitors is that the provision of mosquito repellant in the room and at your table is not something to disregard. Spray it and spray often or you'll be eaten alive by the swarms coming from the nearby river. The hotel doesn't appear to be 'fogging' the mozzies but perhaps they are. Regardless this is the only thing that has dropped this review rating down from a full five stars to four.

Without question we'd recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Chiang Mai and seeking a beautiful hotel experience.

Room Tip: ground floor if you can. use seriously strong mosquito repellant.

Dear ThrillingMe,

Creating memorable experiences is our aim and we hope we achieved just that and that we made your stay and birthday celebration special. Thank you so much for sharing your review and for all the detailed feedback and especially for highlighting the faultless service from our wonderful personnel.
The Chedi is the only luxury hotel in Chiang Mai right on the Mae Ping River. For the comfort of our guests and to minimize the nuisance of mosquitoes we provide repellent and fog the grounds and corridors twice a week.

Thanks again for recommending our hotel and we hope to have the pleasure to welcome you again in the Rose of the North.

Sincerely,

Andy Kunz

Great place for tea / coffee and pettifor cakes, savories etc

What a wonderful back drop and place to relax for tea / coffee and pettifor cakes, savories etc overlooking the splendid River a Much do when traveling to Chaingmia Thailand.

Somewhat inexpensive considering the beautiful arrangements the pettifor cakes, savories etc... some go to Claridges for tea, but this in scenery and elegance beats it hands down :)

Room Tip: Great place for tea / coffee and an amazing pettifor, cakes, savories etc !

We stayed at the Chedi Chiang Mai for four nights and were beyond thrilled with it. The staff are incredible, the hotel is modern and clean, the pool is absolutely breathtaking with a view of the river, and the location in Chiang Mai couldn't be better.

We had delicious complimentary breakfast each day which was to die for. Such great selection and wonderful coffee. The pool and pool service is impeccable and the front desk staff could not be more helpful. A special thank you to "C" at the front desk who made our stay so much fun! He was so warm and friendly, always smiling and greeting us by our names. The entire team of staff at the Chedi for that matter are smart, kind, and warm.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a special experience in Chiang Mai. GO GO GO!

We stayed at The Chedi recently. We were not disappointed. We were taken in by the view from the lobby and the service from the hotel staff was good. The room was nice although we find parts of it lacking maintenance for example, the shower and toilet area. The hotel compound looked a little too dark at night for us to walk around. Perhaps a little bit more lighting would be better. Overall we are satisfied with our stay. The one thing I want to commend the hotel staff is that ,at the time of checkout we were asked where we would be heading to and I told the lady that we would be moving over to the Dusit D2 hotel. When we arrived at the Dusit D2, the reception staff was on the phone with someone and did not attend to us immediately. When she finally put the phone down she told us The Chedi had just called to inform that we had left our Samsung tab in the room. My husband took a tuk-tuk to go back to The Chedi immediately to pick up the tab, for which we are really to the staff at The Chedi.

Dear LemonJane,

Thank you for staying at The Chedi Chiang Mai and for posting your review. We are glad to read that we delivered to your expectations. Very happy also that our staff was swift in reuniting your husband with the tab.
You highlighted that your room lacked some maintenance in the shower and toilet which is of concern and I would welcome if you could share some more details including your room number via e-mail to akunz@ghmhotels.com.

The hotel and grounds are beautiful, like another reviewer said, zen-like and tranquil. The service is true 5 star standard or above and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Beautiful breakfast, you can order anything you want from the menu and as much as you want. We also had a dinner at their restaurant on two occasions and it was excellent. Night market just across the road (it's huge) and transport is easily accessible and very cheap. We did a trip out to a village called Baan Tawai which takes a couple of days to get around; it's just full of the most wonderful shopping from textiles to furniture, wood carving, lamps, jewellery, antiques, rugs; the list goes on.
Location of The Chedi is great and the service is second to none. There is nothing to fault. They do everything just right.

Room Tip: Ground floor near the pool and restaurant
