The Chedi Chiang Mai is an outstanding hotel on the banks of the Maeping river and very close to the night markets. The swimming pool is ideal for those who want to swim as an exercise as well as a very well equipped gym. The breakfasts under the massive tree in the garden are "orgasmic" with a massive spread of home made breads and preserves as well as to die for omelettes. The Indian restaurant at the Chedi is very good although a little pricey for Chiang Mai

Room Tip: Chose a room on the Northern end of the hotel overlooking the river

Dear Tradeasia,

Thank you for leaving a comment on your recent experience at The Chedi Chiang Mai.
We are indeed the only five star hotel in the city that sits right on the banks of the river and just walking distance to the night market which is very convenient for our guests. A special thank you also for your great remarks about our breakfast and delicious Indian food.
We hope to welcome you back soon in the Land of Smiles.

Kind regards,

A great place just to have a drink (if you're like me and you can't afford a room there). There special drinks are delicious. Right on the river and a great place just to watch the world go by. The grounds are beautiful and the building is quite impressive.

We booked the Chedi hotel and were really happy we did. It is within walking distance of a number of attractions and a little Tuk tuk ride to some of the best temples in Chiang Mai. We had a regular room and were impressed by the cleanliness, Internet speed and little extras that made it feel like luxury.
Without exception, all staff smiled and greeted us whenever we walked by. The breakfast was exquisite. We wanted to stay longer, but they were completely booked and so we moved to the Ratilanna. If I were choosing between the two, there is no question, I would pick the Chedi. You can read my review of the Ratilannaafter we check out tomorrow for comparison.

Dear labonnevie,

Thank you for posting your review from your stay at The Chedi Chiang Mai. We are glad to read that you were impressed with your room, the cleanliness, the internet speed, the little extras and most important the courtesy of our staff. Our only regret is that we were not able to extend your stay as the hotel was full but we hope to see you again soon.

We were recommended by our tour agent to stay in the Hotel, located in town and along the Ping River. Our stay was for 3 nights as we were on a golfing holiday and we had 3 deluxe rooms plus 1 suite. We found the hotel and amenities comparable to a 5 star quality but more suitable for honeymooners. The lighting around the hotel is quite dark, possibly to bring out the atmosphere but one has to careful to walk around.
The breakfast was great with both Western, Thai & Japanese menu and their service staff were very courteous & polite which make an excellent difference in the morning. There is a lapping pool to have your swim and also a sun deck.
The only feedback for our stay is the loud noises created by the bull frogs which can disturb your sleep in the early hours when they croak together ....... The room rates are quite high & come with breakfast, acceptable with the ambience & service provided.

Room Tip: Try to get a room not facing the river if you do not want to be disturb by noise from the frogs at n...

Dear Matthew L,

Chiang Mai is a great golfing destination and we thank you for choosing The Chedi for your stay and for sharing your experience with us.
Being located in the center of the city and right next to the river makes The Chedi Chiang Mai the perfect spot to be close to everything. While being very often called an oasis of serenity it is true that sometimes nature can be quite noisy, as in your case with the early croaking of the frogs, we see it as a part of the charm to be right on the banks of the river but obviously also feel sorry if this disturbed your sleep.

We hope to see you again next time you choose the Rose of the North for your golfing holiday.

Warmest greetings.

(Full disclosure: I'm a writer for Samkip Family Hotel Guides.)

This is one of our favorite hotels (for families or not) in Chiang Mai. Wonderful food, service, location. Rooms are great for families with small kids. The night market is a short walk away.

There were times when we felt our kids we're being a little too loud for the tastes of the other guests but the hotel was always accommodating and accepting. The pool was a lot of fun. The kids loved sitting by the river – especially later at night when it has a magical feel along the water.

We stayed here for a few days as part of our honeymoon- and wow we were blown away. Yes the hotel is beautiful and comfortable but the service is truly outstanding.
We had a club suite- and like the other reviews, the perks are wonderful- 7 peices laundry, free minibar, breakfast anywhere in the hotel and happy hour with canapés nightly.
The staff went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of - helping is plan our itinerary and making sure we had a ride to the airport.
This may be the best hotel I've stayed at - certainly in Thailand.
