It is not often we go back to a hotel for another stay. But with a short one week break for school holidays, we wanted to head to somewhere to just chill. We settled on The Chedi Chiangmai again as we felt it was worth a re-visit.
We were warmly welcomed by a Chedi Chiangmai airport greeter and whisked off to the waiting car. I was glad for this as I had completely forgotten to re-confirm this arrangement with the hotel. Upon arrival, we were met by Fah, one of our butlers for the duration of our stay. Check-in was quick and we were shown to our rooms.
Being a returning guest, the staff spoilt us with a bottle Prosecco to start our stay. Our room was familiar, homely and quite large. The hotel still maintains its pay a great-room-rate for all-the-in-room-benefits. There is a coffee machine in the in room bar area, plus all the soft drinks, beer and chocolate in the fridge to be had. If you like hard liquor - choose from Vodka, Whiskey and Gin in the cabinet. These are all replenished daily, as is the ice box.
I found the bed a little soft, but I am used to hard beds. There are ample electrical points at the study desk next to the bed, but none at the bedside table. My son had his bed made on the day-bed on the opposite end of the room. The executive club suite room uses hand-drawn day-blinds and motorised black-out blinds. These do let in the morning sun due to the gaps in between the blinds, but you'll get used to it after a couple of nights. Our room was quiet and we hardly heard other guests. Intermittent vehicular noise can be heard in the room.
We ordered room service one late afternoon. Our baby-burger and man-sized burger came in a short period of time. Hotel dining a bit expensive, but kids just love it.
We opted for a Thai kick-boxing class at the gym. This chargeable option was great fun for us. We learnt basic kick boxing moves from a Thai kick-boxer and thereafter we hit the pads with our legs and boxing-gloved hands, utilising the moves we had just learnt.
The pool is still a very nice venue to relax and be with family. My son and I spent a great deal of time here and we met other families too. There is a friendly, cordial atmosphere here and the pool staff is always on hand to offer you some ice-water and a refreshing lemongrass-scented spritz for your face, plus food and drinks from the pool-side menu. The steak sandwich was good, and so was the Calamari.
We spent half a day out, and Fah helped us translate a couple of local food venues into Thai for our cab driver. One of which was a Thai beef noodle store opposite Chiangmai University [Pencharn]. The Chedi is also very near the night market and loads of eating and massage places. Still a great place to base yourself when in Chiangmai.
Our stay at The Chedi Chiangmai was relaxing to say the least. The staff is very warm and hospitable, rooms are first rate. It was a great week for us. We hope for many more holidays like this!
