“A decent hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2013

Pros:
1) Eggs for breakfast were delicious.
2) Location is good.
3) The communal areas were nice.

Cons:
1) Not much choice for breakfast.
2) Staff were a little unhelpful e.g. they didn't book a taxi to the airport even though we had given a days notice.
3) Lots of mosquitoes.

The hotel is well located, 5 minutes-walk from the old city, with laundries and massage places in front the hotel. The rooms are big but very noisy, they were working very near our room and a kind of cock was singing..the whole night! (That's why I say "a kind of"). The towels were dirty several days, with brown and red spots. The breakfast is ok, but they don't open at 6.30 like they say, at this time, they begin to prepare it. This can be a problem if you have an activity at 7 a.m. The best thing is the pool with some hammocks and great cocktails! I would stay here again but don't expect a 5-star place.

The Hotel is well located, small and nice, clean, charming and you don’t feel to be in the middle of a city. The small pool located in the patio is surrounded by nice plants. The rooms are simple but functional and clean. The staff is polite and helpful. All in all I can highly recommend this Hotel.

Having stayed in an out-of-town hotel last time we visited Chiang Mai two years ago, my family were keen to stay much closer to the centre of the city on a return visit over the Xmas period 2012.
The Karinthip suited us down to the ground, being close to shops, restaurants and temples in the Thapae Gate area of the city.
Despite the central location, the hotel is very peaceful and has a lovely tropical setting with the swimming pool being the focal point of the grounds. Staff were always friendly and helpful, the room was quite basic but clean and served our needs. The children, aged 6 and 11, really loved the pool and spent quite a bit of time in there during our stay.
My only criticism would be the breakfast. Whether we went early or late for breakfast, on most mornings several of the dishes at the buffet had run out and others were cold and unappealing. All in all, it was quite uninspiring and let the hotel down really. It was also strange that the restaurant was closed every evening during our stay, even though the hotel was nearly full. This wasn't a problem as there were a good choice of restaurants within 5 minutes walk but it did seem odd.
I would definitely recommend the hotel and would book here again. Hopefully they will take notice of the comments about the food and try to improve the breakfast experience. In any case, this was far outweighed by the positive aspects of our stay - the pool, the location and staff made our stay a very happy one.

I stayed at Karinthip in early December for 5 days - I made my booking through Agoda and took advantage of a good price for a Deluxe room and then a Superior room. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable - cleaned daily and nice touches with the tissue box and the toilet roll!!! Staff were generally friendly and helpful. Nice garden setting with a pool which was out of action for a couple of days during my stay. Karinthip is convenient to Thapae Gate and the Walking Street with lots of eating places on Chang Moi and Chaiyapoom Roads. At nights the mosquito coils are put out near the rooms so if you fancy a quiet evening sit around the pool don't forget the repellant!!!

Room Tip: look on Agoda for a deal

Hotel with beautiful surrounding. Something like garden around the swimming pool. Nice and friendly staff in the hotel. We were in very stylish room. Good for families with children but also for a romantic trip. The only problem was the restaurant, that seams to be closed all the time and we had to look for some other place in the town. Anyway, that was additional reason for evening walks, that is good in the end ;).

We chanced upon this hotel and loved it at first site. Like many Chiang Mai hotels the access is from a side road with no character but once you are inside the grounds it is amazing - you cannot even guess that you are in the middle of a city - not a single city sound, just birds, lush garden, pristine pool, all of which we got at excellent low-season discounts. The hotel is not fancy, but the low-key comfortable feel was exactly what we liked about it. The location was fine - not in the more active bar streets area, but just across the main road from the old city.

The hotel was extremely clean and pleasant. The pool is very clean and you can use it all hours, great when coming back from a day in the city, and large pool towels are supplied.

The manager, Kamonphan, was welcoming and warm and we had many interesting conversations with her.

The family rooms were being rennovated so we could not use them and got two singles instead. The rooms are pleasant and clean, each individually decorated with wall murals. The showers are spacious and clean. Our 3 kids got a room where two large single beds were pushed together so that the three of them slept together with ample space, saving the cost of an extra bed. In our standard room we got a double bed which was much smaller (deluxe rooms have bigger beds) so the next day asked to move to a room like the kids had. We went on a jungle trek for 3 days and the hotel stored our belongings and had them waiting in our rooms when we got back.

Breakfast was tasty and plentiful, great omlettes. When there are not many guests, breakfast is served individually at a table next to the room/pool, when there are more guests there is a buffet but we still took our trays and sat outside our room next to the pool.
The restaurant was being rennovated so we did not have a chance to try it (but in any case we mostly eat out as prices in street restaurants tend to be lower than those in hotels).

Room Tip: If you are staying in the standard (most basic) rooms you will not have any cupboard space to speak...
