We stayed 6 nights at Rachamankha and were overall pleased. The hotel is beautiful and quiet, location in the Old Town is perfect, the swimming pool is wonderful, the personnel is very courteous. In the library (which is an inviting common area) I met face-to-face with two Asian gentlemen who went inside an office which looks like the administrative office of the hotel. I said "Good morning" and received no reply. They looked at me as if they were annoyed by having a guest in the library. We had dinner one evening at the hotel restaurant and were the only patrons in the deserted dining room. No wonder because the ambiance is beautiful but the food is utterly mediocre. We had better food at simple and inexpensive restaurants that abound in town. The breakfast is a la carte and the service flaws were evident: I asked for one (1) soft-boiled egg and got two (2) hard-boiled eggs; the fruit juices are supposedly freshly squeezed but do not taste nor look so; the plate of fresh fruit is meager, with a few small pieces of fruit that include apple and do not do justice to the reputation of Thailand as a country with plenty of tropical fruit; the bread was stale; one morning there was butter and the following morning there was none; one morning the pancake was decorated with fruit and the other morning the same pancake was served without any decoration or fruit. It seems the owner and/or manager are very attentive to the decoration of the hotel but not enough the quality of the service and the food.

Have stayed here several times and on every occasion it has been a memorable experience from start to finish.
The welcome is warm and very efficient, the staff all friendly and very competent and have the knowledge and experience to understand what the guest wants and sometimes doesn't want.
The rooms themselves are all unique and beautifully appointed in a Lanna style and really calming and relaxing, almost forgot I was on business!
It is quite central and easy to take a stroll into town if one wants.
This really is a gem of a place and highly recommended, staying in Chang Mai I wouldn't look anywhere else.

There is a wide choice of wonderful hotels both "intra muros and extra muros" Chiang Mai (as they say in Paris) and one should either change every two nights or change every time since they all have their character and unique soul. As such, once you come across the Rachamankha, no need to look further, book it, and enjoy it. You will have started to collect part of the Chiang Mai experience. A wonderful boutique hotel with great architecture, nice rooms, a very nice breakfast served at the table, so you don't need to travel to a buffet, and a very nice library to sit in (it seems however that all books displayed were not accessible to guests). Location being in the centre you may book the hotel transportation from the airport and then continue on feet if you intend to stay in the centre of Chiang Mai. So go ahead, as per all previous good comments.

Room Tip: Do not choose the lowest gategory if you wish to enjoy some space

I have spent 3 nights at Rachamanka. The Lanna decoration, the gardens, flowers and orchids everywhere, the peaceful and lovely swimming pool.....a real harmony in each corner of this luxury hotel. The rooms are very nicely decorated with all the comfort and......very quiet! The big plus : the quality of the service and the kindness and availability of the Staff and their Management. A perfect retreat in Chiang Mai and I suggested to all the person who wish to have an unforgettable stay in the North of Thailand!
