“True oasis in the city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013

The hotel is stunningly designed, yet calming and peaceful. Central location near Wat Phra Singh made strolling from temple to temple (in the high summer heat) quite manageable. Deluxe room was beautiful, very clean, and quiet. It was wonderful to spend mornings and evenings in the outdoor spaces within the grounds, and cool down in the pool after dusty days touring. The staff was most helpful, and we enjoyed the included breakfasts and a dinner prepared at the hotel. We stayed at the hotel the last evening before our late flight out, and it was hard to tear ourselves away!

Room Tip: Deluxe double - Room 10 - is beautiful.

It's hard to imagine a nicer place to stay.
This place is perfect right down to the tiniest detail.
Decked out in antique chinese furniture and with some of the most stunning gardens you could ever want to find, everything goes above and beyond the wildest of expectations.
Everywhere you look simply oozes class, the restaurant is jaw droppingly fabulous, the staff are absolutley wonderful and the rooms are a complete delight.
The very epitomy of a tropical oasis, make sure yu don't stay anywhere else if you come to Ciang Mai.

3 night stay in a luxurious hotel for a honeymoon should be winner!!

Instead, we encountered nothing but problems during our stay, mainly with the reception staff...

1. Night 1 - airconditioning in our room sounded like a jet plane was about to take off. When enquiring about having this fixed or looked into the next morning we were treated as though it wasn't an issue and we should get over it. Only after pushing our complaint and requesting another room was this issue resolved - but it wasn't due to the problem-solving abilities of the reception staff.

2. Breakfast was a pleasant experience, the wait staff are very diligent. The menu requires guests to make three selections from an a la carte menu. One would think that ordering cereal/fruit, eggs on toast and a sweet would come in that order. Not a chance here, first up was the sweet, next the eggs, followed by the cereal. The breakfast itself was of reasonable quality.

3. After moving rooms, we encountered toilet blockages and required to have these dealt with.

4. The reception desk will book you taxis but expect to pay triple than what you would pay walking next door and ordering you one. Reception staff will not tell you this, you live and learn it would seem.

5. All inclusive mini bar in your package will result in arguing with reception staff as to whether its included or not upon check out. (Despite being assured that it was).

6. The dinner pales in comparison to breakfast - my meal was 3.5/5, my wife's was a terrible stif fry mash up that I could have well bettered at home 1/5. The local shops reign supreme over this restaurant.

The building itself is a marvel, beautifully maintained grounds, pool, library and sitting areas. It's a shame that the reception staff were 'difficult' and made our stay a disappointment.

A perfect place to stay in Chiang Mai, the owner did this hotel with fantastic taste, the rooms have character, the outside restaurant is so nice, everything is well chosen, great Hotel, and good service. Only the bathrooms could be rethought.

My wife and daughter stayed here for 3 nights and it was a lovely. The hotel is the former residence of the owners and the care and upkeep given to the facilities is what you might expect in someone's home. There are genuine antiques strewn about everywhere you wander and the grounds are kept up immaculately. The pool area is beautiful and kept at a comfortable temperature. The restaurant is innovative yet comfortable with creative and authentic cuisine. The staff was always helpful and friendly and the massage staff was incredible. And its location: right behind Wat Phra Sing in the old city. I really cannot say enough great things about this place.

We stayed for 5 nights at the Rachamankha and loved it! The lanna design of the hotel is really nice and peaceful and the rooms are elegant, yet simple. For me the unique architecture of the hotel was a big asset as well as the fact that it is in the center of Chiang Mai. It is not a 5+ stars palace, but a really nice and quite boutique hotel. The room was large enought (we had the normal room on the ground floor), furnished with wooden furniture and nice paintings. There were some area that could need some painting or so, but nothing to worry about. As in many hotel in Thailand, the room was a bit dark.
We enjoyed a lot the really huge pool for such a small hotel and also the breakfast at the restaurant. Breakfast is a mix of "à la carte" with buffet and it was always very fresh, tasty and there was enough choice. We once had dinner at the restaurant, and they serve northern Thai cuisine as well as Burmese cuisine and it was really a very nice meal. A bit more expensive than in town restaurants, but very delicate.
Staff was, as in almost every places in ,Thailand really helpful, smiling and polite, but they were not the best in English, although they really do everything that is possible to accommodate and help.
The hotel is small and the guests very quite. Some reviews say that there is no service at the pool, which is true, but it did not bother me at all.

The outside look is everything you would expect from a boutique hotel, local architecture, not many people and just an atmosphere that calls out to you.
We stayed in the 2-bedroom suite, and the first thing you notice is the linoleum flooring!! Not something you would expect in a 5 star hotel, no matter where you are in the world!!
The staff were polite, however a some English lessons for a few would not hurt!!
We had a great driver/guide on the car which we rented from the hotel to drive us to the elephant farm, tiger kingdom and a few other places!!
The restaurant was pretty good, in all aspects and the breakfast delightful, although the slices of the ham for the eggs Benedict should be a lot thinner!

Room Tip: Do not choose the 2-bedroom suite!!!
