We stayed for 3 nights at Rachamankha and loved every minute. From the gorgeous property, including traditional grounds / buildings, gorgeous pool and relaxing spaces in which to hang, everything was nearly perfect. The staff are delightful, the restaurant is exquisite (breakfast is good and then we stumbled upon their vegetarian prix fixe menu - unreal if you are a vegetarian).

You're in the heart of the old city near Wat Phra Sing, which is also beautiful, and about a 10 minute walk to the East gate. You'll probably want to rent a bike or take a tuk tuk to the night market / riverside area, but other than that, you're in a very good, but quiet central location.

Loved how you could also order drinks and food from the bar and have them delivered to the pool or your room. Really nice treat.

We went as a couple but there were families there too, I'd say this is a good spot for either.

Don't miss out, this is a great value for the price if you're looking for a Lanna style traditional site with all of the modern needs (the wifi was strong and consistent the entire stay as well).

A gem in Chiang Mai!

Room Tip: We were next to the pool, which seemed to be fairly quiet most of the time.

sometimes 'boutique' can be code for 'shoddy' or even a pre-apology for not being as nice as you would expect. when it comes to the rachamankha, boutique means 'zen-like perfection.' i wouldnt recommend this for spring break, but if youre looking for a calming location in the center of the old downtown area, this is your spot. the entire facility was warm and inviting, we found ourselves mumbling "i love this place" everytime we walked through the serene courtyards. the breakfast is worth having included in your room stay--best included breakfast ever and great coffee. highly recommended.

We spent six nights here and absolutely loved our time. It's a really beautiful hotel, exquisitely designed and set in stunning grounds and with a gorgeous swimming pool. Every aspect has been careful thought through and the end result is really exceptional. Fantastic food and lovely rooms filled with beautiful antique furniture. And any hotel that has free brandy in the library has to be right up there in the ratings! We have also heard that alot of places in Chiang Mai suffer from noise but this is in a really nice, quiet neighbourhood that is still near some of the main sites.

One negative point - at check out our bill had a rather large phone bill which we questioned as we had only be making local calls. It turns out the hotel charges 25 baht a minute ($0.85) for calling mobile phones, even though the actual cost is 5-7 baht. A 500% mark up really isn't on. The staff agreed to reduce the charge to 10 baht, but we would suggest the hotel reconsiders this as it detracts slightly from what was otherwise an almost perfect hotel experience.

Beautifully appointed hotel that has it all. What a fantastic surprise that awaited us when we booked into this boutique hotel. You can walk to night markets, Sunday walking markets, temples but peaceful and quiet. The rooms have tv, safe, ironing board, free wifi with comfortable bedding and good lights for reading. A beautiful pool and delightful gardens. The staff are ever present but unobtrusive. Plenty of choice for breakfast. We got a good price through Expedia so a very reasonable price..value for money. I would describe this hotel as quiet not really suitable for children but there were teenagers and small children staying here but the parents made sure they were quiet and didn't disturb the quests.

Room Tip: We stayed in the rooms closest to reception but it was still very quiet. Best value the superior ro...

I just came back from my second trip to Chiangmai in three months. This time with my husband.
We're so glad to have chosen Rachamankha as the first hotel we stayed there (we then moved to Ping Nakaya for a change).
We could just stayed in the hotel for our trip. In fact, we spent the afternoons entirely in the hotel coz it's so hot out there!
The beautiful architecture, the peace and exclusivity as a boutique hotel, the nice-layout of the entire structure, the excellent restaurant and the nice pool, the secret library (well not so secret but seems only discovered by us and enjoyed by us alone) are all our praise for this great property.
Comparatively, the room is not the place you want to stay coz it's old style house and although spacious with nice bed, it's not so well lit and the bath room do have cheap ceramtic wall that entirely lack of taste and a strong smell when you turn on the hot water. However, the lobby, the library, the pool, the restaurant and the entire hotel ground are so enjoyable that we could ignore the weak of the room and already decide to come back next time.
But it would be nice if they could do some upgrading for the bathroom.

This lovely hotel is within a sliver of reaching that top level! But, to be fair, you would be hard pressed to find a nicer hotel of this genre/price in Chiang Mai and certainly you would have difficulty finding one with such exquisite food. Without having to detail all of its pluses, and they overwhelm the negatives, as you can read the other reviews for those pluses, I would like to mention the negatives,( alas, us long term Thai residents take for granted what other reviewers rave here about i.e. great willing and friendly staff, clean rooms, flat screen TV, and all that stuff. We know and expect those pluses!)so here are some of the points that bothered me:( see pictures):

The very dark rooms are certainly beautifully done up and furnished, but not practical in many respects; cupboards antique and rickety making it difficult to hang clothes , and with very limited decent drawer space....doors in room and all over the hotel are made local size i.e. enter sideways for larger westerners! No floor mat put next to bed at night during turn down service making barefoot on the cold tiles when getting up from the bed unpleasant; Bed itself consisted of a medium to low grade mattress on a slab of wood with a 8 " awkward ledge on either side , making a chore getting out of bed (but on the other hand providing a ledge for books, pads etc....) ; In the very small bathroom, no bath and very dangerous glass shower doors with sharp edges at (my) eye level. And with no non slip shower mat offered, although there are somewhat non slip tiles, this could be a disaster waiting to happen! Many many lights in the well lit deluxe room but with no central switch for most near the bed makes having to turn off each individual light an annoying bedtime chore. The electrical architect was obviously not techno savy when he designed the rooms as there are no practical elevated sockets for mobile phones, pads etc...Outside the rooms: The lack of ability to make cocktails properly in the bar showed itself on several occasions despite there being an extensive cocktail menu offered. Those niggly little things above are not really that important but do aggravate one in a deluxe establishment. However the most puzzling thing in this very small 24 room hotel was the total absence of the manager who, apart from on our second morning a 1 minute greeting through the car window as we were going out ( and helpful emails prior to arriving), was never around during our 5 night visit ! Mysterious in itself,....however the most delightful and charming owner himself, Khun Root, was routinely in evidence which more than made up for that.

And a note for my disabled colleagues: don't even think about booking here.....its a most unfriendly hotel for disabled people...no ramps and there are steps absolutely everywhere, gravel pathways, narrow doors, the unhelpful ledge on each side of the bed etc... unusable bathroom for those in a wheel chair. However there is a plus here too: a friendly pleasant big swimming pool with very good railings into the shallow end perfect for those disabled that can walk.

Remember I have accentuated the negatives and left out the positives. Rachamankha is a wonderful experience especially for those who enjoy a quiet, pleasant atmosphere in a deluxe setting and really superb food. However its a most challenging experience for those elderly finicky ol' blokes with disabilities like me...so bear that in mind!

Room Tip: There are only a few "Deluxe" rooms which are larger and better. However some are at the ve...

The best accomodation in Chiang Mai. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. We stayed in the deluxe king room upstairs. I loved everything here. The food at the restaurant was so cheap for the 5 star quality. The staff in the restaurant went out of there way to make dining there a special experience. You need to book early as it gets booked out as we tried to return but couldn't. It has the best location as it is walking distance to most of the temples in the old city. Loved that it was so quiet and relaxing. The pool area, the gardens, the lanna architecture, the beautiful room and the staff made our time here so enjoyable. We look forward to visiting again.

Room Tip: Deluxe king room upstairs is worth the extra money.
